We were looking for a pizza place after 8:00pm Most places were closed so as we drove down the street we saw Paulo's was open. It was just my niece and I. We ordered mozzarella sticks and a medium cheese pizza. This place was awesome from the moment we ordered. All the guys behind the counter were so friendly and nice. My niece is 5 and will talk to anyone and once she gets going she doesn't stop. These guys were so good about it. One second we're ordering pizza and the next talking about American Girl dolls. The whole staff was so friendly Now onto the food! The mozzarella sticks were good and the pizza was delicious!!! I'm not much of a leftover person but we got back to the hotel and I ended up eating another slice and then the next day I heated up a slice in the microwave and it still tasted good!! This place reminds me of an old neighborhood pizza place from when I was a kid. Low key, comfortable, away from the crowds, with great food! The menu is really large and they've got daily specials. The staff make you feel like they've known you forever. Very welcoming and helpful people. I've actually been here a few times over the past couple months. The food is made to order and fantastic. My only "complaint" is the menu lacks descriptions of what's in/on the sandwiches. Both the Steak Bomb and Chicken Bomb are great tasting sandwiches. The roll comes toasted so it's hard on the outside and soft inside. The blanket of cheese does hold the heat in - the sandwiches stay hot inside for a long time. Fantastic meal! Stopped In for our first time after playing golf on Treasure Island. Food was pretty good and that's the only thing keeping this review from 1 star, unfortunately. I was in town on business, no car, at a hotel. Heard this place was good so I ordered. Nice and easy. Guy on the phone was great! Food arrived earlier than expected which was another plus but this is where it went all downhill Guy that's delivering off the bat has an attitude. Clearly had a bad day and was upset about something. Says he tried to call 5-10 times to no answer until I finally received the call and came down. I didn't not receive any phone calls besides the call I answered. It was very evident he thought I was lying by How LOUDLY he was huffing and puffing and shaking his head, literally, the entire time he was running my card. After running the card, it declined. My fault entirely, probably didn't pay it off in time. Gave him a new card that worked fine. To which he responded "why didn't you use that card to start?". My bad, guy. I didn't plan on giving you a declined card. He was upset about god knows what so I simply apologized for the inconvenience. He then goes on to sarcastically tell me to tip whatever because the pizza place was right down the road as if it was an inconvenience to drive 2 miles... I don't have a care and delivery is your job. Again, this guy clearly had a bad day and was not a representation of this business but I was definitely let down over this very awkward experience. The delivery guy is great. I just found these guys and so far I am very pleased. Both of the pizza and the cheese steak subs were delicious. Next time I will order double steak. I will definitely be ordering from them again and trying different Items on their menu. They don't charge enough for what they give you. Ordered take out from Paulo's tonight. Daughter had a medium cheese pizza (not much I can say about that, although she gave the pizza a 4 out of 5 star rating). I, on the other hand, ordered a meatball sub & Antipasto Salad. I could not finish either.... Meaning the quantity is more than impressive. I enjoyed the meatball sandwich very much, the meatballs are tender and the sauce is just as I like... Not acidic, not sweet... Just right! The Antipasto Salad includes all the likely Italian characters... Black Olives, ham, salami, cheese etc... Both the meats & cheeses and the the greens were very fresh & tender. I normally am a Toby's Little Italy fan, but I will have to seriously consider changing my go to Italian take out joint. read more

Paulo's have been my go to place for Italian food for many years, but lately I don't know what's going on there. Seems like everything I order now is drenched in salt, you know, like the lid fell off and the whole container of salt fell in. I don't know if they have a new cook that smokes, has no taste buds, or just doesn't bother to taste the food he makes. You can always add salt but if the food has too much in it there isn't anything you can do to remove it. I am very disappointed because if I get too much salt it makes my ears ring for many hours. read more

Delicious crispy crust and fresh ingredients but could have used a touch of garlic in the white sauce. I have found few pizza places in St Pete that make real thin crust pizza. Many places say they make thin crust pizzas but they are usually doughy and have a gooey texture. I passed Paulo's Pizza on my way to the store and decided tonight to order one of their pizzas. It is a hole in the wall kind of place, which is where you often find good food. The inside is unpretentious, very clean, and a very wonderful staff, friendly and welcoming. The pizza maker, he was working on Saturday night, really listened to what I wanted and when he finished making and baking the pizza, I was excited because it appeared to be a real New York style thin crust pizza. I took it home, and as my partner Jim and I sampled a slice, we couldn't believe the texture of the crust, the flavorful sauce, and the good flavor of all the ingredients. For every good pizza we have tried, only a couple are true New York style. The great thing about Paulo's Pizza is it is in the hood so we don't have to travel far to get a great pizza. They offer other items such as Calzones, chicken wings, and subs. We haven't tried those, as we are Pizza and Spaghetti lovers. I would suggest when going there you do as I did and ask for a true thin crust pizza, as the standard is a little thicker. You can dine in as well, but we prefer to do take out. read more

Subs: Outstanding (especially the "Steak Bomb") Pizza: I've had better but they are OK Salads: Good Service: None to speak of I almost gave this place a 4 star rating, and it's close, but they just don't quite make the cut for 4 stars (3.5 stars if that was an option). If you like hot peppers you absolutely have to try the Steak Bomb Sub. It's basically a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with Pepperoni, Pizza Sauce, and Hot Peppers added. Yummm. They are fantastic for take-out or to-go. If you are going to eat there, you have to know the drill. You still go up front and order your food. Sit down, and they'll bring you your order. Now, here's part of what earned them a demotion from four stars to three. The first time I went in there to eat in, we didn't know the drill, so we grabbed some menus, sat down and waited for someone to come over... and waited... and waited some more. They flat ignored us and when we finally asked, a female worker fairly rudely told us that we had to order up front and let on that she would have let us sit there all night if we had wanted to. So, maybe this is a good place for the homeless to get out of the weather and not be bothered -- I don't know. In my opinion, the pizza is just OK, but pizza really is a personal thing and so others may love it. The crust is average thickness (not thin crust, but certainly not thick crust either). I thought it was way too light on the sauce, but the toppings were all very fresh and good. Another service issue -- we asked for extra pizza sauce after the pizza was delivered and they brought it to us refrigerator cold. We had to send the pizza sauce back to be heated. All the while, the female employee seemed to have a bit of an attitude all night like we were inconveniencing her by being there. For me, this place is great for take-out subs and salads, but I won't be going here for pizza or sit down service. read more

Paulo's used to be my favorite pizza shop proximate to my house. The last two times I've ordered pizza from there the crust was soggy in the middle of the pizza. Cozy and Mediocre It's nice to have a little neighborhood Italian restaurant nearby. This one isn't it. The interior has a vaguely California 1960's surfer vibe and is comfortable enough. The staff is very pleasant and friendly. My wife had the lasagna which was a bit bland and could have used a lot more seasoning. I had a medium pizza which had good flavor. But as another reviewer complained, the central region of the pizza was hopelessly soggy. So that part had to be eaten with a knife and fork. Only then could I lift the piece with a standard New York middle fold to be eaten as pizza should be. I was also a bit miffed about the salads. The lasagna came with a side salad. I ordered a side salad and it was pricey at $5 for a plate of basic lettuce greens, two pieces of cucumber and 2 slices of tomato. When main dishes are under $10, that $5 was out of whack and was a substantial mark-up. While Paulo's is fine, it should be better. read more

Delicious! We are always looking for places that we can bike or walk to from home and this place is perfect. The staff was SO attentive and the food was awesome, particularly the breadsticks :O soooo garlicky and cheesy and crisp...exactly what you want. My boyfriend had been before with his sister, he got a "GIANT..Truly enormous" calzone and she got "killer" wings...and they talked about it so much that I finally had to put my foot down and demanded we go so I could try it. I've been eating at Paulo's since 1985. I live in San Diego now, but I include a stop at Paulo's on every Florida trip I make. The food is that good. Their pizzas and salads are good. Their hot sandwiches are amazing!!!!!! The Steak Bomb is not so much a sammich as it is a religious experience: great steak, great bread, great peppers, great cheese...wait, there's more: PEPPERONI too!
