It's nice to get a bit of NYC flavor while living down here. This pizzeria is located in the heart of downtown- it can get very busy on weekend nights. They have counter tops inside, and 2 benches outside. Service is normally quick. The workers are also great! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Now for the food: The pizza is simple but delicious - you truly can't go wrong with the pepperoni pizza! We also ordered the wings and they did not disappoint! They were flavorful, not dry, juicy inside- definitely deserving the 5/5 rating.

When taking my wife or family out for a nice dinner, I often call ahead, provide my credit card, and ask the restaurant to charge the meal with a 22% gratuity. It's not because we're in a rush--it's simply nice to enjoy dinner and, when finished, say good night and leave without waiting for a check or dealing with payment. Haley approached us and assumed we had done this because we were "in a rush." When I explained why I actually do it, she told me it was more of a hassle for her because she had to manually enter the card instead of swiping it. That was a pretty surprising thing to say to a customer who had already arranged to leave you a 22% tip. I told her to forget the arrangement and that I'd give her my card at the end. Instead of letting it go, she continued bringing it up and making the situation increasingly awkward. She even reiterated that she preferred swiping the card. In the end, she literally talked herself out of a guaranteed 22% tip. I left 18%, mainly because I don't like leaving a poor tip. The restaurant is beautiful and the food deserves another visit, but Haley's approach to customer service turned what should have been a great evening into an unnecessarily awkward one. We'll likely return--but we'll definitely request a different server.

From the pizza and such, to the bigger dinner. And, if you are lucky, there are special items on the menu for the evening. Of course, if you get there early that can change and it does go fast. Having gone several times, and have brought soem family and friends, it does show what is different fromt he local place to a fancier Italian that you need a reservation for if you are lucky. Here, I like the chicken parm. It is like I would get it at home. I have also tried the eggplant parm and the seafood pasta. Sometimes I will opt for the great salad plate which is like having an Italian Antipasto. It has everything. And a single plate is big enough for two. So, it is a good meal to split. Half the salad and half the chicken parm. What is best, if you do go a bit early they even offer two glasses of wine for the price of one. Almost like Happy Hour. And, of course, the prices are lower than the fancy Italian places a mile away. Fortunato's has been around for some time. It has become the local place I will go to and bring some friends along. And that is not bad, because otherwise I bring the leftovers home...if I did not finish them all right there. As we say in Italian: CIAO!
