Not sure where to begin...this Thursday (7/14/22), my family was excited to try this new Italian restaurant, to us, at least. First, we stood at the hostess stand and was never greeted, about 10 minutes. We waved a server down and he sat us. Time went by and we finally got water. After that, NO ONE came by to take our drink orders, offer bread or even say, I'll be right with you. However, many times two of the servers did look our way and saw we had not been assisted. Once again, we waved down the same waiter and he put his finger in the air, as to say hold on, with an irritated expression. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, a waitress came to the table, the same one who initially poured our water, and asked "are you ready to order". We said no thank you and we decided to leave. The time span all occurred over 45 minutes. We were really looking forward to our dinner and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but obviously they don't understand customer service or the definition of hospitality. read more

This is easily the best Italian restaurant in the South Bend/ Mishawaka/ Granger area. Some of the best dishes are the eggplant parmigiana appetizer- ordered as an entree. It perfectly prepared with amazingly thin sliced eggplant- there is nothing soggy about this dish here. The pheasant ravioli in the wild mushroom sauce is totally authentic. Order it if you want to see how people in the Lago di Garda region eat. The lasagna is delicious as it the gnocchi. Last time I ate there they had Sicilian Braciola for one of their specials. They made my anniversary truly special. They had this Happy Anniversary sign waiting for us, the server made sure we were well taken care of, and they gave us a generous complimentary dessert that was phenomenal! I got the Ravioli Aurora. If you like a creamier red sauce and lots of spinach, this dish is for you. My husband got the spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti (and ravioli) were all homemade and the marinara sauce wasn't runny or too acidic. The meatballs had a pop of flavor! We will definitely be coming back and bringing family and friends! The food was great, but one of the servers is just terrible. Her name is Lisa, an older folk. She just kept bad mouthing the other servers and the owners judgment. It's very unprofessional in my opinion. Her voices carries enough. This lady also reeks of cigarette odor which is not appeasing when eating at a fine dining restaurant, not to mention her appearance. My wife actually gagged. I am hopeful she does find somewhere else to go as she stated. Lisa dramatically brings down the romantic atmosphere in the restaurant. After being in the industry myself from what I witnessed today, the behavior would not be tolerated. I had a wonderful experience not long ago with anither server I did not see tonight. Terrible service and cold food. Took over an hour to get appetizers and another hour to get entrees. When the entrees finally showed up 3/4 were cold. We had to get up several times to go ask for water from the bar, because our waiter was MIA. When we voiced our concerns to the manager he became very defensive and said, "I have no excuse, but I have a party of 100 people in my banquet room." Which, to me, sounded a lot like an excuse. Overall we had a very poor experience the service was terrible from the waiter all the way up to the owner/manager. The food had potential if it had come hot. I understand that the restaurant was clearly overwhelmed, but that's still not an excuse for completely neglecting customers and then acting indignant when customers point out the poor treatment they have received. We found this place on "Open Table" and thought we would try it. The reviews I had read had rated it as good to very good. We arrived at about 6:30. The parking lot was about half full. The outside of the building is nice and has a modern look. Once you enter the front door, it looks completely different. Lots of old world Italian decor. Dark woods, black and white pictures of family and friends on the walls. Linen table cloths. As you enter the dining room, you will note a beautiful bar on the left, one of the nicest ones in the area. The owner greeted us at the door and checked us in. We were met by our waiter and escorted to our table. We were offered a choice of several different tables in the restaurant. There is a large fireplace in the back of the restaurant and the background music is standard big band. They have a nice but small wine list and I was surprised to find half bottles available. We didn't order appetizers. I had the OssoBuco and my wife had the Ravioli. Both our entrees were very good. After dinner we had a very nice dessert and coffee. All in all it was a very nice experience. We took several minutes to talk to the owner and he explained some of his background and that of the restaurant. Our dinner cost about $100.00 and included 2 entrees, desert, half bottle of wine and coffee. We will be returning again. read more

Our party of three had the pleasure of dining @ the new Capri Restaurant on Saturday, 3/15. It was first-rate in every respect. My supper companions, who own a small business in Granger, had salads as appetizers, while I had the artichoke hearts, which were DEE-licious. One of my guests had a pasta entree and raved about it. The other had a chicken dish that she, too, said was terrific. I had the pork-chop entree, and it was divine. We enjoyed a very nice $50 bottle of chianti that was just plain excellent. One guest passed on dessert. The other had gelato with Kahlua and chocolate sauce and couldn't say enough good things about it. I had my favorite Italian dessert, spumoni, and it lived up to my sky-high expectations. The service provided by our waiter, 'Lester', was upscale, smooth, and unobtrusive throughout. He really knows his stuff. Smooth as silk. And the ambience, well, we were there for just short of three hours, and we could have easily stayed for two more because it was so pleasant and so comfortable. As a 'foodie' who has eaten in bistros and restaurants around the world, I recommend the Capri without hesitation or qualification. Went here on a weeknight and was taken aback by how empty it was, as the waitstaff outnumbered guests. It's a fancy place that's very out of place for the neighborhood. The food, while reasonably priced by white tablecloth standards, was more on par with Olive Garden. That's not a diss necessarily, as I like Olive Garden, but if I wanted Olive Garden food, I'd go to Olive Garden, save $30 and eat unlimited breadsticks. Broken glass all over the table, server was nowhere to be found we had to wait forever for every course/drink/action by the staff. When we received our drinks someone had 5 flies in their glass. Got our appetizers after an hour into the visit--and they were terrible. In no way could they accommodate children--no milk on hand at all so they were going to "doing something creative" with heavy cream. Had dinner here with a group of friends the other night. The place is really good looking, very Italiano. But the food is pretty awful, the service is slow and the waiter Tony, nice but not sharp; didn't know even basic Italian pronunciation. I felt embarrassed for him. It's pretty hard to mess up Italian food but they managed. Three of us had spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce was very thin and not tasty, the meatballs were some kind of mystery meat. This restaurant is a secret gem hidden in Granger. The caprise salad is made with homemade mozzarella and it's the best I've ever had. The special was the seafood ravioli with lobster and scallops it was divine. My wife had a herb crusted salmon that was spectacular. The desserts tasted like they were made by angels. We've been coming to the KAO next door for 30 years and have watched many businesses come and go in that location. This year we finally decided to try Capri since it was so close and friends said it was good. It was large and lovely on the inside, but the music was basically nonexistent, which doesn't set much of a mood. Apparently they were going through menu changes, which just meant they were taking things off the already small menu and not adding anything. My friend asked for 3 different things, just to have the waitress come back and say they didn't have them. The portions were decent. My dad's pasta wasn't cooked all the way and the rolls were slightly burnt. Overall, a very dull and unsatisfactory visit. read more

Another great meal last night. The homemade 3 meat lasagna was fantastic. The service as always was friendly and attentive. Eating at Capri is always a nice experience. They have a great menu with many wonderful and homemade items, a beautiful dining room featuring a real wood burning fireplace and a really impressive bar that is great for a pre-meal drink or just to stop in for a relaxing cocktail. This place was terrific. The atmosphere is romantic, and everything we got was absolutely delicious. It's also very legit Italian, if you're picky about that. If the soup of the day is tomato basil, don't pass it by--it's a super creamy delight, a total surprise. And the tiramisu is this darling, perfect little ball of coffee-bitter happiness, not too sweet. The service was what really set it apart, though. They stayed open late for us after I called, and our server was classy and attentive. It's weird to think of telling people that, off on a little side street next to a KOA in Granger, IN, you'll find this top notch place. But there it is. read more

Wonderful ambience and good service. One of the few local area restaurants where the music isn't blaring and you can have a conversation without shouting at your table mates. Second serving of hot rolls was very disappointing. Overbaked (almost burned) or microwaved or both, way too hot to handle and the crust so hard I had to use my napkin to crush it open. Freshly made pasta was perfectly al dente, cream based sauce not too heavy but a little bland. Otherwise very satisfying. Recommend and hope this place catches hold. My hubby and I stopped on a whim for lunch because I had heard good things and was excited to try. It was a stormy Friday afternoon, and we were the only diners. The ambiance is amazing-hits all the senses. Visually, you are transported out of Granger, IN. The music sets the mood, as does staff. Real or acting, the italian accents sound authentic and add to the experience. The smells are divine. Even touch-wood, brass, white linen table cloths...I could hardly wait to taste!! That's where the experience took a turn...sadly, and disappointingly for the worse. First came the bread-rolls, obviously reheated in the microwave because, while they had a nice crust, they were too hot to eat. I'm talking burn your fingers hot. Oh well, no worries, I thought. I hadn't come for the bread. First, we ordered Insalata Caprese-fresh mozzarella cheese made on site, tomato, olive oil and basil. The mozzarella was good, not amazing, but good. I enjoyed it. But what should have been the second star of the dish, the Tomato, failed. It's mid-July, and the weather has been hot, hot, hot and my tomatoes at home have come in and are amazing, so I was expecting a ripe, juicy, scrumptious Beef Steak Tomato but was served one just this side of plastic. It was forced red, under-ripe, tasteless tomato, likely from a chain food supplier vs from a local farm-which, by the way-are all around the area. It made me very sad. As our main course, we both ordered Linguini with clams. I ordered mine with white wine sauce, hubby ordered tomato sauce. Let me start by saying, we moved here from Rhode Island, and know and miss exceptional Italian food. We were both so hopeful we had found a place to go...but nope. The pasta was well cooked-al dente-and also made on site. But the sauce **heavy sigh** nope. I'll say the tomato was slightly better than the white wine, but it was nothing special. Tasted like lightly seasoned pureed tomato-the same tomato that the Caprese was made with- so edible, but very forgettable. And somehow the white wine sauce was less flavorful than the tomato sauce, which atleast had some spices. Lastly, the clams. I know better than to expect well cooked clams in the mid-west, but I did...and they were not. They were over cooked and slightly mushy...and, atleast to me, they broke a cardinal shellfish rule. I was served an unopened clam! We were the only people in the place, so there was no excuse like the kitchen being busy so they didn't catch it. Somehow, it was served. Unacceptable... and truly unexpected at a restaurant of this class. I know some debate that a clam being unopened after cooking does not mean dead before cooking, but to me, it is fact. Never, NEVER serve or eat unopened clams, quahougs or mussels. So, in conclusion, if you want delightful ambiance, but aren't so concerned with taste (or price as our food cost $44 for one order of Caprese and two linguni with clams) Capri will give you a great sensory experience...sans taste read more
