We really enjoyed this German food! The people were very sweet and made sure we were cared for, from the drinks to dessert.

Thursday dinner special, the brisket.

In town for the Irish? Well I suggest you "Eat, Drink, Be German", as recommended at Weiss Gasthaus. On a recent trip to Notre Dame University for a football game, we were looking for a good place for dinner. After driving 8.5 hours from Pennsylvania we spotted Weiss Gasthaus on the way to our South Bend hotel. It's not often you see a German restaurant so I checked out yelp reviews and after reading, I knew we had to try it. We LOVED it. My husband ordered a beer, the Kostritzer, in a liter mug (it was HUGE). I had a dry Riesling. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer with bacon and maple syrup (among the best Brussels ever). My husband and I each ordered one the Thursday dinner specials, the brisket. The brisket was tender with the fat cap intact. It was a generous portion served with a seasonal fresh vegetable medley (seasoned perfectly) and mashed potatoes. My husband also ordered a side of braised red cabbage (also delicious). My dad ordered the other Thursday special, the roulade, with spaetzle and red cabbage. Our entrees were served with a dinner salad. We all enjoyed the homemade vinaigrette dressing. And finally, my dad ordered the German Apple Cake for dessert, which he really enjoyed. The atmosphere is pleasant, with Cuckoo clocks displayed in the dinin We must also mention our wonderful server Marye. She was helpful with ordering and displayed wonderful Midwestern friendliness. We highly recommend the Weiss Gasthaus.

We ate there all 3 days we were in town. It was amazing everything we ate was full of yumminess!! The service was excellent the whole staff was awesome. Personal touches like visits from Chef Kenny and LeAnn. I highly recommend!!! The desserts were mouth watering!!!

Sourbraten with spatzle and red cabbagr.

Ate at Weiss' Gasthaus on a Friday night for our 33rd wedding anniversary. Has the mushroom soup for appetizer, it was awesome. Had Sourbraten for main, was a little salty compared to usual. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, but had quite a wait for the food. Everything is homemade, but even so it was a long wait. Again, my past visits were not so slow. The place is nice, lots of things to look at including a wall of cucuclocks. Will come back again, but the long wait holds me off a 5 star rating.

The Gasthaus sampler. The schnitzel is worthy of a plate of its own. Get the jaeger sauce to dress it up.

This place is great! Felt like many of the restaurants I dined at while in Germany. Great place for the family or friends to have a delicious meal. Highly recommend.

I have been waiting to go here forever and I am sad that I waited so long. The food was fantastic and the renovation with the outside seating area was great. I went for the taste of plate that had several of their most popular items and it did not disappoint. The lemon raspberry cake was to die for. A great and friendly staff made for a 5 star experience.

a little after 8:30 on a sat night. It cleared out by 8:50 except us, another couple, & 2 alumni who wanted quick beers.

Everyone was so kind and hospitable. The restaurant itself was very cozy and I enjoyed being there. As far as food, I loved everything I ate. I tried (over 3 meals) the pretzels, burrata, steak frites, the burger, Brussels sprouts, creamed spinach, sweet potato fries, Mac and cheese, and the French dip. Everything was so yummy! The Mac and cheese needed some salt but otherwise everything was 10/10. I can't wait to return!

You drive up to the awning and a valet opens the gates for you to park. We had reservations. It was very crowded. I am told it's not typically that crowded. It was hard to hear it was so loud. Menu is large. Prices are higher. Be ready. I got the large chopped salad. It wasn't that large for $18. I changed out the dressing to ranch because I did not want the garlic salad dressing. Glad I did. The salad was ok. The salami was smokey it added to the veggies. But for the price it was small and disappointing. 2 people got the prime rib sandwich and it was pretty sloppy. It's better to eat with a knife and fork. I was told it was good. The sweet potato fries have cayenne pepper on them. The chopped salad with tofu was also disappointing. The tofu had a weird bbq type sauce. The server was nice and she was fine. The atmosphere is more high scale. Just disappointed in the taste of the food and portion to cost. Cool experience being on campus but you're paying for it.

Truly, this was an unexpectedly poor experience. And it's really unfortunate, things could've been…read morejust fine if things were handled well. Pro tip: Do not go here with high expectations. Walking in, the vibe was more than fine... I'd even say a bit more elevated than a diner, with some charm. The server was welcoming and did get us started quite promptly, with our order taken within 5-10 minutes and coffee on the table 5-10 min later. Everything was downhill from there. An hour passed and we still didn't have our food. The server told us "you're next, it's coming". While something seemed off, we remained patient. Another 15 min go by, nothing. Mind you, unbenownst to the staff, we actually knew another table who arrived and sat down 15 min after us and, while they also waited a while, they finished their meal and left and we still didn't have anything. It's at least an hour and a half later, and we finally said something. Once again, "you're next, it's coming", but this time an added, "he sold your food to someone else". Aka the server either told the truth, and the restaurant made an error, or the server pawned their error on the chef. Food finally started to drop, but the order was certainly not fully accurate. Tolerable, but noticeably not accurate. Missing sides, incorrect orders, and one guest missing their whole order. At this point, we're looking to speak to a manager. The missing omelette meal finally hit the table, looking like it was whipped up in a couple minutes, on a dirty pan (think full yellow with a layer of black and oily grease). Upon cutting it up it was clear that it wasn't fully cooked. I wish I took a photo, but the "owner" took it to examine it herself and was both rude and defensive. Not one apology for any of the above. Forget about any suggestive comps or resolution. The server didn't make any eye contact once it was obvious an error was made. Genuinely, I can understand that mistakes can be made, especially during busy times. But, no excuse for the demeaned of this "owner". I put this in quotes because her behavior and response to the situation is certainly not acceptable. Maybe we had a "miss" experience. Maybe the food and service would be better next time. But due to the response of the "owner" we will not be returning and I would not recommend to anyone.

Our server was bright and bubbly, and this place has the feel of a small town hang where the staff knows their regulars. It has an extensive menu with lots of diner type options, and is super affordable. However, it took us 35 minutes to get our food, which was disappointing. We had to eat really quickly. It would have been understandable if they were really busy, but they weren't. Luckily, the food was yummy. We just couldn't really enjoy it since we had to rush.
