If you're looking to adopt or receive care for your fur babies, I would highly suggest NOT going to caprock vet clinic in portales. I could write a short story about the negative experience we've had since adopting our dog in January. But to keep it short and sweet, you can never get ahold of anyone there. They do not set proper expectations of what's expected of you from adopting a dog from them. And the staff takes no accountability and resorts to their policies as their defense for everything. I've been there before with two of my pets, and I called previously to set up an appointment. Today, March 6, I called again and they had me waiting for 25 minutes. When someone finally answered, they didn't wait for me to speak and hung up right away. I tried calling back to set up the appointment again, but I guess they don't care about scheduling one. My puppy is definitely a special one who always find himself in some situation regardless of what I do to prevent stuff. He just the wild child but Caprock is one of the most lovely and caring vet clinics I've been to. They were extremely helpful and friendly with me and my pup. My puppy had accidentally ate a rat and because we have rat poison in areas in the house I rushed him over here to make sure he gets treated immediately. The moment i walked into that door and explained the situation the staff were quick on their feet and didn't hesitate to help out! After this experience I had my pup become a regular here!! We did just move to Portales not too long ago but i absolutely love how they treat the animals and they have an adoption program as well! When Doctor Mahr ran this place years ago, it was the best place to go. I can't tell you how many times, since it was taken over, that I have, against my better judgement, tried and tried again to give this vet another chance because they are the only vet in our entire town. You can call and call and call during normal business hours and they will literally pick up (if you can even get them to pick up) only to hang up the phone to keep it from ringing, and then you can call back and get a busy signal. They DO NOT answer their phone. They DO NOT return their 'emergency after hours calls' even after you accept the automated messages warning that there is an after hours emergency fee if you leave a message. They don't even call you back days later about your message either, it's just absolutely ignored. The last time I had an appointment we were in the waiting room for almost three hours. The receptionist was rude, no one told us why we were waiting for so long for a scheduled appointment for a very ill pet, they just let you sit and wait. Good luck getting anyone to answer the phone. Good luck getting anyone to return EMERGENCY calls. Good luck on not spending the entire afternoon, and I do mean your entire afternoon, waiting in a waiting room before you get your five minute check up (no matter what you're in there for). There are some really good vets in Clovis, but the unfortunate reality is that they are all booked, all the time, so getting an appointment for an already sick animal is extremely difficult. I was told my only option was to take them to an emergency vet in Lubbock which I also heard was good, however, that's a long trip for a sick or injured animal, gas costs an elbow, and you have to have at least four to five hours of daytime to make this round trip and attend your appointment so, no matter how ill your animal is, if you're someone who works and can't take the entire day off to make such an appointment, you're in trouble. Despite all the terrible odds of getting veterinary care in the area, I would not take my pet to Caprock, even as a last resort. Everything about this place is sub par and no amount of excuses can make up for they way they treat their clientele. read more

She took such great care of our Maggie. she gives everything she has to her clinic, the animals, and the homeless animal rescues she provides care, food, and adoptions for. You won't find a more caring person to care for your pets. read more

Caprock Veterinary Clinic is a very good place to take your pets. I recently got a puppy and they have been so kind and helpful to helping me get what I need for my puppy. The personnel here are very professional and suggest what they known in their practice is best for the animal. The prices are fair and they do keep a record for history of your animal. The only "issue" I've had is that I've had to wait a little bit just to be seen even with an appointment but that isn't that bad considering the whole COVID-19 Pandemic. I had decided to give this place another fo since it is so very close to me I will admit I went back with a kind of bad attitude thinking it was going to he the same ol all over again. I was thankfully wrong! When I called the staff that took my questions and appointments down with total respect! I didn't feel like I had bothered their tea time at 9 or 10 or 11 or 2 and so on. I felt like they really cared about what was going on what they could do to help with my situation. I never wanted to he treated like I was the most entitled person in the world however I wanted to feel that by taking my animals there and leaving them at times that they would be cared for with loving caring people. I had already been visiting the vet prior to this lady showing up so I knew that she was a truly caring doctor but the scowls this lady gave and the rudeness and pure mean girl way she acted made me feel it wasn't worth trusting anyone there with my animal's. Now however, you call you talk they listen and they care I have been shocked and I am so happy that this lady is not in the front anymore cause maybe she just hates people and gets on great with animal's. I am now changing my rating to a 4 (may change it to a 5 in another month or so if things stay this consistent. I have not been able to go back with my dog when they come and get them due to the pandemic I am relaxed and ok knowing that the dog is in great hands and in capable hands of good people who care about her. As for the lady who was very rude I wish you the best as well life is just to short to be so angry all the time. So good luck to you ma'am. I brought my cat to this vet over a year ago for an abcess, they were unable to find the reason but they treated her with antibiotics and sent us on our way anyway. 2 weeks later, the abcess was back along with another $175 vet bill. This time they sedated her, cleaned out the abcess and stitched her up and sent her home with more antibiotics and she was ok for a few months. When the abcess came back yet again they took her in and said she had an ingrown nail and removed an inch long nail from her paw. How had they missed it the last 2 times? They charged me $175 AGAIN! Now here we are 4 months later and my cat has another claw growing out of her toe bean! When I called to see if anything could be done of course I was crying worried for my cat and I was shouted at to calm down and then met with a different even uglier and agrier voice telling me the vet would not even see her for 5 minutes without charging me a minimum of 55 dollars for an examination fee. My cat has suffered for 2 years and been traumatized 4 times for them to not even check her out. I hope they all rot in hell. read more

Veterinarian has unqualified staff that she also let's diagnosing, and incorrectly and doesn't bother to check herself. Our dog died because of their incompetence to read a radiograph and see a ruptured diaphragm with intestines in the chest cavity. Charged to "care for her" and now that she was a nice dog... When taken to another facility to see why she want doing any better, it was to late. Flat out neglect and malpractice. Should not be in business at all. read more

We used Caprock Veterinary Clinic in the '70s -'90s when our children were home and we had pets. We always would have given it a 5-Star rating (higher, if that were possible). We're now empty nesters with two young puppies. We would still give the Clinic a 5-Star rating because of the capable and loving care our puppies always receive. It does cost money to own a pet, and it costs to run the office, but pricing is fair and reasonable.
