Today I went to Captain Andy's Market for the first time ever. Many years ago, I used to eat at, and buy produce at Top of the Hill in Chestnut Hill, so I was happy to finally get to Captain Andy's. The market is very quaint, and reminds me of a fish market that you might find at the shore. Today I came in looking for a nice piece of fish to throw on the grill. I settled on some wild caught salmon, and the nice young man behind the counter recommended the red fish, which I'd never had before. I won't lie they are pricey, but you get what you pay for. Both pieces of fish were amazing. Not only was the quality excellent, but possibly the best fresh fish I've had in many years. I won't gate keep, so I'll be suggesting this market to my friends. I definitely know people who are looking for a place to purchase quality, line caught fish and I'm happy to share. Great customer service. The staff was very friendly, and the fish monger offered to remove the bones without me asking. Excellent experience. I'll definitely be back. read more

Captain Andy's Market is a great local neighborhood market where you can pick up fresh produce and other specialty items. It's a very small, quaint spot, but it's really nice and well stocked for the size. The staff is wonderful. the young people working the register are always polite, kind, and engaging, which makes the experience even better. They have fresh salads ready to purchase, along with a seafood counter and a meat counter, and everything always looks fresh and well prepared. The store itself is small and can get pretty busy, but that's part of the charm of a neighborhood market. You can also find flowers, mums depending on the season, fresh herbs, cheeses, bottled sauces, and other specialty items. They really have a little bit of everything. Prices are moderate. Of course, they may be a little higher than bigger places like Produce Junction, but that's expected for a small local market where you can walk in and get fresh items quickly. Overall, it's a great local produce spot if you like supporting neighborhood businesses and want fresh ingredients without going to a big store. This is the only place in Philly I want to go for fish. There's a great selection and it's invariably fresh. It's slightly more expensive but not be much and the quality is so excellent that the value is surpassing. The produce is just as good. I don't eat red meat but they sell chicken from a carefully selected local farm. And I just finished the best New England Clam Chowder I've ever had, including my favorite spot on Cape Cod. read more

Just tried the crabcake. It was delicious; I am particular about my crabcake and this one was full of crab; minimal filling to hold it together and a very light panko coating for crispness. It was very large and well worth the price. My husband has had a variety of the seafood and commented on the fresh taste. This has become our go to place for seafood and fresh veggies. And most importantly, unless you live by the coast, you won't find better seafood. No exaggeration, this is the best collection of fish you'll find anywhere in the Northeast. The variety is massive and the quality is even better. The staples like tuna, swordfish, halibut, red snapper, and scallops are there daily, but the Captain makes sure that rarer ones are flown in on an almost daily basis. What a treat! Great fresh day-boat never frozen fish with an amazing variety (soft shells, oysters, scallops, lump crab and every fish you can imagine, in season that is). They also have everything you need to compliment your main course; boutique cheeses, local fresh spices, veggies, bread, fruit etc. There truly isn't one thing in the store that's not top notch. The icing on the cake, Andy his wife and crew are pleasant and extremely knowledgeable with any seafood questions, cooking instructions/suggestions or a friendly chat. It's a nice store with very nice merchandise. Prices are waaaaaay over the top. I can do better at Whole Foods and Reading Terminal Market. The place is absurdly overstaffed and the sales (?) people (if you can call them that) are so cramped into the small space for checkout that they are literally bumping into one another. It's no wonder that prices are obscenely inflated. How else can they possibly pay all those kids? I sincerely doubt that this review will be posted. Only the *****5 star reviews appear here. Nice neighborhood market, they have so many great things in the store . I brought soft shell crabs, guacamole some breakfast meat and a few great sauces typically not found in supermarket . The fish is very fresh and high-quality, the meat I bought turned out soft as butter, and the produce is top-notch. Today I bought 4 Chincoteague oysters (fresh, briny, perfect), cod fish- wild caught ( so sweet, tender and moist) and some yummy whole grain bread. The seafood was first rate. Capt Andy's is my new favorite market. Quality and local produce, fresh seafood and prime meats. The best chicken you'll ever have for those summer bbq days. The Scottish salmon and sword fish are amazing. They also have the produce you'll need for all the fixings. I go at least 3xs a week to get food for grilling and the employees are always so helpful in making suggestions. I can't say enough about this market. You'll be hooked.
