We had a great half-day of fishing with Captain Clowers. We caught 12 keepers (Sand Bass). Captain Clowers and his assistant, Ryan, did a great job helping my son, 14, and daughter, 9, catch fish. This was my first six pack charter and we were not disappointed. Communication was great from the time I booked the trip till the day we left. The 36' Riviera is a great boat. They had all the gear we needed already set up ready to go. The boat was clean and well taken care of. Our Captain Jeremy was really cool and knew the area very well. He had a game plan on where to find the fish and he came through. Our deck hand was awesome and he had a lot of experience fishing. He set us up every time and we lost no fish. We filled the box with rockfish and trolled for yellows but they weren't around. We landed 4 or 5 large cudas but catch and released those. Captain Clowers is the Fish Whisperer. A couple of years back, we took a Christmas Eve lobstering trip with him, which was an excellent experience. So we decided to try one of his tuna trips. From the very start of our trip, it was clear he would not be satisfied letting us go home empty handed. Four of us headed out on a trip after some Yellowfin Tuna, with the captain and his deckhand. It took a few hours to find any bites, but Capt. Clowers used every resource he could, including following porpoise schools and near large kelp patties, and frequently checking in with many other fishermen on the water that day. Eventually, we found the bite, and once we found it, we couldn't reel them in fast enough. We had all caught our limit by the end of the trip. Captain Clowers meticulously cleaned our catch for us, and we brought home enough high-quality tuna to last us for months. Thumbs way up for Captain Clower if you are looking for a killer off-shore fishing experience. He thoroughly explained how the day was going to go including saying that once we found the fish, we wouldn't have any time to take a breath (which I found highly skeptical). WOW! He delivered on that promise. It took us a couple of hours to find the fish and 1 1/2 hours later, my sons and I were covered in scales, sweat, and fish blood and the fish bag had 9 yellowfin and 6 skip jack. He even helped us find a packer so I could ship the fish back home. BTW, he is great with young kids. My youngest son is only 7, and he had a great time thanks to all the help he received from the crew. I never once worried about his safety or if he was having a good time during the entire trip. The Captain and his helpful deckhand made sure all the equipment was in order, and used their tremendous experience on the water to put me and 3 others onto fish. We caught dorado, yellowfin and yellowtail (18 in total), and had an amazing time. As an added bonus, on the way out to the fishing spot, we ran into a school of dolphins who accompanied us on our way out. We also saw a massive Mako or Hammerhead shark at the fishing site, which also added to what was an amazing day. A buddy of mine and I went on a fishing trip with Capt. Clowers yesterday and had a BLAST! I didn't expect to catch much after reading the fishing reports from the big open party boats. I called Alan and he booked us for a morning bay trip. We fished for bass and caught 21 in 2 hours. Nearly every cast, there was another fish on the line! Then we went to another part of the bay to try for sharks and ended up catching nearly 20 sharks and bat rays. It was an unbelievable trip and we lost count after 21, but I would estimate between 35-40 fish in 5 hrs in early February. We are definitely going to book him again for Tuna in the spring if we can make it back to San Diego. Once the trip was over, he fileted the fish and gave us ideas on how to cook them. I had such an AMAZING time on my fishing trip with Al! Al confidently navigated us to where the fish were biting all throughout the day! Booked an overnight trip with Captain Clowers on the 36ft riviera for a bachelor party. The 3 of us Louisiana boys had an awesome time! Unfortunately the tuna weren't running but captain clowers has little control over that and was very straight forward with us before the trip started and promised to do his best to put us on fish and he did just that! We caught nice sized yellowtails all day long putting a limit in the boat. Always important to go into a charter with an open mind, that's why they call it fishing! The deckhand and assistant captain worked their butts off making sure we had fresh bait in the water and the poles stayed rigged and were extremely helpful and courteous throughout the whole trip. I highly recommend booking a trip with Captain Clowers if you're looking for a top notch experience. *make sure you bring your passports! Awesome full day with captain clowers and his deckhand Trevon. We had three guys in our party and felt it was the perfect crowd. We spent the day fishing around the islands. We knew it was going to be a solid day when we had a fish on within 15 seconds of dropping our first rapala. We took one pass along the South Island and hooked up to 4 Bonita and a calico. After that this got blurry because it was non stop. Capt Clowers used his fishy senses to put us on a school of yellowtail. We drifted with this school and had a wild 1-2 hours, with several doubles and one triple hook up. We were fishing away from the crowd of other boats and heard over the radio that nobody else was having the luck that we were. At some point during late morning the water changed, it became incredibly blue and clear and not long after that we surprisingly reeled up a bluefin tuna. Then another and another. We sat on a school of bluefin for several hours fighting them on light line and playing keep away from the sea lions. Captain Clowers and Trevon were on point - baiting, casting instructing and gaffing non stop. They seriously are fish whisperers. Once that romp was over we trolled some more and hooked up to various species. We had an absolute blast. Everything we could have asked for in a 3 day trip happened in one day for us. We've been out every summer for the last 5 years with different 4 packs and this trip was unreal. We headed out as a group of four for a 1/2 day with Captain Clowers to try our hands at some Guided August fishing here in San Diego. Captain Clowers and his first mate, Trevin, showed us a phenomenal time! Just an hour in, we knew that we wants to do more than half a day with these gents, and thankfully they not only allowed us to extend, but guided us to the Fish God's private kelp patty, whereby we loaded up on dozens of Dorado, Bluefin, Yellowtail and Yellowfin. The crew was instructive, kind and had exactly the instincts needed for catching fish in San Diego.
