When I went, there weren't too many people, so it was pretty peaceful. The trail can get busy and there are bathrooms along the way (I didn't use them though) There's plenty of parking here, but just be sure you leave on time for closing. I've heard they lock up and it can be an issue with getting out. (not sure how true this is but I won't chance it) There is more parking elsewhere with trail access too, I just personally haven't found it.

After entering the main entrance, follow the road and turn right where you will see a yellow locked gate. This is the beginning of the paved walking trail. There's plenty of parking at the main entrance, and the paved trail is perfect for walkers, runners, bikers, and even kids tagging along. It's basically a choose-your-own-adventure: bird watching, fishing (permit required), or just a casual picnic. Bonus perks: lots of porta potties and benches when you need a breather. If you're holding out for a real restroom, there's one just past the second baseball field--plan accordingly. Photo is attached to show where to locate this. Heads up: the main gate is closed every 2nd Tuesday of the month, but don't panic--you can still access the trail through the neighborhood entrance off Baltimore Drive. Hope you enjoy this walking trail as much as I do.

We ended up deciding it was best we start off in a more controlled environment (on land) and found this place on Yelp. Rates are cheap, we paid $15 for 2 hours, and that included all the gear. Some people say the owner is rude, but she was very patient with our group that had never fished before. She explained how to put the bait on the hook and how to cast the line out. Very simple and easy to do once you get the hang of it all. Out of our group of 5, 3 of us caught a fish, and I caught two! Definitely a great first time run for all of us, as we all at least got a bite or two. It's a fun sport that you'll need to be patient with when you're first starting, but all of us want to go back and try again some day! The owner was ecstatic that we caught some, and because of that, she told us we could pick out a coaster each to take home. Truly a nice lady, would definitely recommend you come by and give it a try if you're in the area!

While I reel mine in, the other guy says his is only "kelp" and tells the deckhand to reel it in. I look, 80% out on a TLD 20. The deckhand tells me to reel it in. I tell him I need surgery on my right shoulder (SLAP Tear, painful). I do reel in. 50-60 BFT on it. "That is my fish" the guy who refused to reel the "kelp" in says. I say no, I reeled it in after he gave it up. Pegasus Captain Alec awards the fish to the other guy. Mr. "Kelp" Guy: "My brother is the Captain of the Royal Polaris." Will not be fishing this boat again.

The staff on the boat do a lot of helping. Definitely would recommend this boat if you are looking for a great time.

Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

I also see a lot of people walking their dogs here, which is something I personally like. Between the ocean views, the sunset, and all the people out enjoying the outdoors, it's just a nice place to spend part of the day.

Highly recommend visiting if you get a chance.

So I was able to get in touch with Evan (the owner) about the situation. He had a legitimate reason to not get back with me. He listened to my story about my experience and understood. He offered a refund which I declined and accepted another trip out to make it up and to give us a fair chance at the bite. I wasn't expecting such a generous offer and it proves to me that he does want smiles on his customers' faces. I appreciate the fact that he wasn't defensive and owned up to the boats malfunctions (repaired since then). I understand that any equipment will eventually meet its end and anyone could've been on the boat for that trip. I'm glad that it's all repaired and ready to go now. The whole reason my wife booked our trip with Guardian was because of the Yelp reviews. I'm changing my initial 2-star review to a 5 because of the sincerity Evan relayed to me about his wanting of his customers to enjoy their trip and get on fish with a fighting chance (functioning gear). Thanks for understanding the circumstances and being a good person and professional, Evan. We look forward to our next endeavor with Guardian Charters. I didn't explain the full situation earlier about the poached fish. The buoy indicating a commercial trap was blocked from our view as we landed a couple of rock fish and we left as soon as we saw the buoy. Nothing was intentional. This is my first year ocean fishing! I will have to say I learned more from going on these private trips with Evan than I did going on the big 3/4 day boats with a bunch of random people. Evan makes sure you catch fish (usually limits) and get your moneys worth. I won't bother with the fighting the crowds on the bigger boats anymore with tangled lines and everything. Best thing is with Guardian Charters you can just call up Evan and he takes care of everything. All you have to do is show up and have fun fishing. I couldn't be happier with my experience fishing with Guardian Charters! Every time I go out it's a totally different adventure. The 1st time I was on the boat I caught 2 big sized Tuna about 15-20 pounds, 1 Dorado over 20 pounds and 1 Dorado about 8 pounds. The 2nd trip with Evan I caught limits of Yellow Fin Tuna all about 20 pound range (so much fun!). The 3rd trip was in the winter and I caught limits of Lingcod about 5-7 pounds, about 3 large Red Rockfish and a couple of 3 pound white fish. I've been eating fish all summer, fall and winter and my freezer is still completely stocked. I plan on going lobster diving with him and going out fishing off shore about once a month until he gets sick of me. I can't wait to get back out on the water with Evan again!!! read more

This was my first time on a fishing charter, we went out on 08-12-15. I booked the trip as a way to get out on the water with my son, father, brother and a family friend. My expectations were exceeded on this trip, Woody was hands down amazing to spend the day on the water with. He put us on fish right away and when certain spots were not hitting we did not waste time at that spot but would move to other locations. Since we were inexperienced open water anglers, he spent the time to show us the ropes and was patient with us. My 9 year old son was on the trip and Woody was unbelievably friendly to having a young one on the boat for the day. It was an amazing day out there and Woody kept the trip fun and exciting, a true professional. I did not get a chance to meet Evan, but he was very responsive to any questions I had prior to the trip. We did better than the other charters on the water that day and that was due to Woody's expertise of the local waters and his natural ability to find fish. I plan on coming back and booking through them again. A truly memorable experience and I highly recommend these guys. An amazing charter with really helpful and knowledgeable staff! I recently called Evan from Guardian Charters to book a spearfishing trip on short notice, and he generously worked with my timing issues to accommodate the trip. He sent me an email with all the info on the trip soon after. The service he provided was awesome. We were going to be diving at the Coronado Islands in Mexico, where we'd need a Mexican fishing license. He actually went out and picked them up for us prior to the trip, which was very convenient! There were plenty of snacks and water/soda/gatorade on the boat to keep us energized and hydrated throughout all the diving. We were able to get out to the islands really quickly and jump in the water faster than I had expected. The day only got better when Evan suited up and jumped in too! It was an amazing day with great visibility and we were able to check out a few different spots he knew of that were teeming with marine life. He landed a couple monster Sheephead and I was able to land my personal best Sheephead and Calico! Definitely can't wait till I can get out with these guys again! read more

My fiance and I found Guardian Charters on Instagram last summer and since then have gone on 3 offshore trips. Nothing but great experiences. Captain Evan's passion, knowledge and intuition always puts us on the fish. He has a great way of telling you exactly where you need to be, guide you on how to fight the fish and most importantly land the fish. Prior to finding Guradian Charters, my fiance and I had zero experience free diving and spearfishing. Evan was super excited to get us in the water and show us what it was all about. I have to say, it was the highlight of the trip! (mind you, we limited out on Yellowfin tuna that trip) Out of the 3 trips we have taken, weve gone home with hundreds of pounds of Yellowfin, Bluefin, Yellowtail and Dorodo. Nobody out of our group has been skunked or even anywhere near it. We leave when the kill bag is full!! Everytime we get home from a trip, were buzzing weeks later ranting and raving about what a great time we had. If you are thinking about taking a Tuna Trip this summer, book Guardian Charters. This was the second time we have used Guardian Charter, each time with 4 anglers. The first time, 2 years ago, we caught the limit of yellowtail tuna within 2 hours with skipper Evan. We left early even though we had a ¾ day trip. This time, three days ago, we were aware that fishing was not supposed to be that great. However, with skipper Nate on a full day trip we caught two yellowtail trolling on the way out. Then lightning struck, Nate noticed a rather large float of kelp with many birds around. We approached the patty and started to fish. Within seconds the first Mahi Mahi was on a hook followed by a continuous avalanche of more Mahi Mahi. We caught fish basically as soon as the bait hit the water. Must have been a large school of Mahi Mahi. After about 1.5 hours of quite exhausting fishing, we stopped at 29 Mahi Mahi. We returned to port way early. In spite of his amazing speed it took Nate more time to filet the fish than it took us to catch them. Based on our experience, we can highly recommend Guardian Charter. I gone diving with several quality spearfishing charter outfits, both in the U.S. and abroad, but Guardian Charter takes the cake. Capt. Evan Wagley has put together an operation that is truly impressive. To put it simply: if you're an "decent" spearo/diver Guardian Charter has a system that gives you a good chance of landing the fish of your dreams. Guardian Charter has all the basic fishing charter stuff covered (good customer service, nice boats, reasonable rates, etc.) but their knowledge of the off-shore pelagic fish and their desire to put you on them is unparalleled. I went out chasing bluefin tuna with Guardian for two days in a row and I quickly lost count of the number of times my captains but me on schools of fish. The captains are constantly assisting you and giving you advice and encouragement. With their help I got lucky and landed my first tuna, quickly followed by a second one! After a very long day on the water the skipper enthusiastically and skillfully filleted and bagged my fish. I will be back without question. read more

I make an annual escape from the ice and snow of Minneapolis to southern California and love to fish out of the San Diego area when I can. I've tried all of the open party boats and 1 other open charter operation. This year I checked out a few of the Yelp reviews before calling captain Evan to inquire about a 3/4 day trip with Guardians and am very glad I did. (Guardians has the best reviews) I got to the dock at the agreed to time and meet Captain Nate, who told me it would be just the two of us for the day. That the other 2 guys had canceled. Even though the weather was less than cooperative I had a great time. Captain Nate worked hard and kept us on cod, grouper & other rockfish all day. I caught fish on nearly every drift. Nate really knows the area well and was a lot of fun to just hang out with for the day. Very personable, the kind of guide who loves what he does and it shows. We've gone out with Evan's operation twice now, and I think these guys may have ruined every other fishing trip I'll ever go on. First time out we limited on YFT within a few hours.. This trip the fish reports had been significantly less promising, but Nate worked his tail off to put us on fish. When we did find the fish, we found all of them and limited on dorado within a few hours. Nate coached us through quadruple hookups, gaffing fish left and right in between tying on new hooks, fixing bird-nested reels, hand lining fish to the boat after they wrapped themselves around the prop, and correcting just about any mistake 4 rookie anglers could make. This experience blows any cattle boat I've been on out of the water, and its especially worth it if you've got inexperienced anglers in your group The boat was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of iced storage for drinks/ snacks. Don't even look at another charter! My son and I just got back and had the experience of a lifetime! Not only did we catch our limit of blue fin tuna (all 30-40lbs), we also caught our limit of large yellow fin (all 20 - 30lbs)! Along the way we snatched up a bunch of hard fighting Bonita as well (and a couple big sea bass)! Our captain (Nate) refused to give up on finding us the hot spot. Even though the season was winding down, he was able to find an amazing spot where we hit our jackpot. We even experienced a hammerhead shark trying to steal our blue fin! Your crazy if you don't stop your search now and JUST CALL THEM NOW! Thank you Nate and Evan, we will never forget this trip and we will be back every year! I never really paid much attention to Yelp reviews but I had no info at all about fishing charters in San Diego so that was my only resource. Evan was completely responsive from my very first inquiry online. My son and I traveled from Pittsburgh, booked the 3/4 day island charter. We arrived at the dock 10 minutes early and Nate, our captain, was waiting for us. He was a very aggressive fish hunter, he takes it personally if you're not catching fish. He was just fantastic. We went in January so the chances of yellowtail were not strong, but he kept looking until we found them anyway. He then took to us to a spot where we caught bonita, which also was extremely fun. Rented the boat for the day. Captain was there really early to get the boat ready. Left the dock early got a ton of bait and headed out. Weather was a little rough and we still found some good kelp patties. Got on a nice yellowtail bite and fished all morning then headed to the coast and found even more fish. We fished hard until 4 pm and then headed home. Captain was really good and was on top of things. Ended the day with a few yellowtail and Bonita. Saw a mako and tried for him for a little with no luck. Still pretty cool to see him. Hit the dock and the captain had the fish fillet fast. The girl friend caught her first yellow. I can't wait to go back out with them. Felt safe the whole day and highly recommend them. read more

Doesn't get any better that this. When Capt. Evan Wagley called out, "Hey guys, I'm marking fish at 60 ft. Get some baits in the water." Somebody hooked up nearly every time. More than one double hook up and one triple hook up. He works hard to find the fish and keeps everybody fishing with gear that is prepared. A master with the gaff too as we lost not a single fish. Seven blue fin including two in the 40# range, 3 yellow fin, and a 30# Dorado. A trip my sons and I will remember the rest of our lives. What a beautiful bloody mess we had. Serious problems finding room for all the fillets we brought home, had to give some away. Nice problem to have. Easily over 200# of fish. read more

Went on two events.Both open charters. The lobster dive was my first one with the charter and it blew my mind how many lobsters were out walking on top of rocks and poking their heads and antennas out of holes. It was a well planned and very chill expedition and I plan on doing another hopefully sometime in the near future. The second was to the Coronado Islands. Shot a couple of Bonitos,calico bass, sheepshead and one yellow tail who managed to slip off my shaft and disappear into the deep blue. These guys know what their doing. They take you right to the lobster or fish and it's such a chill relaxing atmosphere. Very rewarding and well worth my time and 5 stars. read more

Chartered my husband and son a day with Captain Nate on August 21st. My boys are bass fisherman but love to deep sea fish every chance they get. That being said they are pretty picky about who they go out with and what fish they want to catch. They came home totally ecstatic saying it was the best day on the ocean they have ever had, and that was all thanks to Captain Nate! Nate went above and beyond to get them limits when the fishing wasn't really on that day to begin with. They said they will definitely be back! Evans charter is the best charter around and he will definitely put you on the fish! The boat has a lot of deck space, a comfortable cabin, and will get you to the fishing grounds in a hurry. I boarded the boat and Evan had everything ready to go bait, ice, drinks, and rods. He put us on the fish within an hour and we had limits of tuna for all 4 of us before 11 o clock, and when you are fishing he helps out with anything that you need. Evan runs an amazing charter that will impress anyone. The charter is very personalized, once you go on Guardian Charters you will never want to go on an open party boat again! First time deep sea fishing and it was AMAZING. Captain Woody and deck hand Steve are very accommodating. They know the ocean like an old salty pirate. They took great care of us and the ocean marine life around them. When you go out ask him what jail birding is. Lol We took a ¾ day trip during the off season and most places we called said more than likely the fish moved on. Guardian Chatters said no problem we will catch some fish. Had a great time! I love spearfishing, it's my favorite hobby and I am from Newport Rhode Island. So it was my first time in the Pacific shooting and the captain and crew were extremely knowledgable about the species we were targeting and the ones we couldn't. Everyone on the boat was educated on safety and regulations before entering the water. And we were brought to multiple spots to try and find varieties of fish. And to top it off at the end of the day I received a bag of filets from what I shot! Guardian tears it up. I was one of the 3 that "Dusty B" mentioned. We showed up at the docs and Nate was ready to rock. Nate put us on the fish and made sure we were tired of caching fish by the end of the day! More so than just the fishing our guide Nate was on top of everything and down to earth. Several times all 4 of us had fish on and in the midst of chaos he kept everything running smooth and made sure we all stayed hooked up with fish on! I give him 12 out of 10. I found a groupon for the Cowbouy and contacted Scott who proptly answered all of my questions, so I booked a 6 hour afternoon charter for up to 6 people with him. At the first communication, Scott was prompt and professional. Scott met us on time and had everything ready for a fun afternoon of fishing. He even asked us our preference of staying in the harbor or going out of the bay, including giving us the morning fishing report, which helped us make our decision. He and his deckhand have all the tackle, bait, and riggings needed. His boat was comfortable for all of us. We had 4 keepers including 2 halibut, a spotted bass, and a sculpin. We had many bites and a few short fish that we threw back. I would have given this review a 5 star, but the fish didn't like my hook. I am looking forward to my next outing with Scott aboard the Cowbouy and hope that the next trip yealds some hungrier fish for my hook! If you like to fish, and want to go out with a skilled capitain and someone who really enjoys what he does, call Scott and setup a trip. You won't be sorry. A bad day of fishing ALWAYS beats a good day at work.

But eventually we worked our way back to port. Throughout the trip, captain Marc and deckhand Brandon were first class. They treated us like friends, and kept us well cared for. When the fishing was hot, they were always right there handing us a fresh rod with new bait in exchange for the one we'd just reeled in, always professional, always thinking one step ahead. At the end Brandon cleaned the fish for us, and even served us up some sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi! It was out of this world! I can't say enough good about our experience. Paid $4250 plus meager tip. Boat was nice and fast but no toilet for our female passenger. Not one of us 6 touched a pole during the trip. The deckhand had a tough night and couldn't cast the single pole he had ready into a huge school of tuna. The kite was not rigged up after over 2 hour boat ride. Once it was finally rigged, the deckhand popped the kite balloon after roughy 45 mins of usage and didn't rig another one. We had one single trolling line in for roughly 5 mins. Never used any live bait. The deckhand and captain never engaged us and it was literally a boat ride. Saw lots of tuna swells and dolphins. A truely disappointing experience.
