05.12.23 Friday @ 7:30pm. Table for 6 Our server seems newly hired and can see he's trying his best. Sweet and friendly. 2x steam clams - was over cooked as of chewing rubber. 1x fresh clams - sweet and fresh 2x Prime Rib w. Lobster tail - poor quality prime rib, over cooked for medium/rare but the lobster tail was seasoned with a nicely taste. 1x Prime Rib w. snow crab - poor quality prime rib and the snow crab cluster was dry. 1x clams & shrimp paste 1x Atlantic Salmon Gilled 1x Friday Fish Fry Fresh Haddock No comment for those I didn't try.

We were in the area and noticed a large billboard with a lobster tail and prime rib for $24.99. It turns out that the restaurant was on our way, and swung the eclectic outside of the restaurant with an obvious sea motive, we decided to give it a try. You are I'll be greeted at the door by Captain John himself, wearing a white captains uniform. John is in his 90's, and will tell you that he has been greeting customers since 1973. The interior is flooded with sea fishing nets, life boats, a tiki bar and other gimmicks from the ocean. The service was great, and an overall friendly atmosphere. A few in our party had the margaritas, and said they really lacked alcohol. The special was the lobster and prime rib so we had that and a calamari as a starter. The food was edible and for the price a good deal. Don't expect a large portion. Would not repeat, but worth one visit for the novelty.

Cpt. John's is easily the best bar on Sylvan beach (and there's a LOTTT of competition). But Cpt. Johns has it all! The best service, friendly/hilarious/cool bartenders (shout out to Andy!!!), awesome atmosphere/decor and vibes, and the BEST (and strongest) drinks on the entire Sylvan beach strip! My friend and I stopped in for some drinks Sunday afternoon during Pirates Weekend because we saw the big sign out front that read "2 for 1 margaritas." Uh, count us in!! Yes please!! We ended up getting the "shipwreck for 2". Honestly have no idea what was in the actual drink but it was HUGE & DELICIOUS & even came with an awesome pirate flag! Best part was Andy our bartender rang a bell and blew a horn before serving our drink (I posted the video for your entertainment). It was absolutely amazing & hysterical. Everyone at the bar was hootin' and hollerin'. I guess that's what the pirates do ;). We also got to keep the glass!!! We met some awesome people at this bar. Will definitely be back to try some of the food and get more delicious drinks!!! Thanks Andy for the great service and company!!!

It's been awhile since my last dinning experience. Hope you noticed the term experience and not meal. The total package is Captain Johns Food, service and of course the settings a 160 feet from Oneida lake the town is experiencing a huge turn around . The food is great Wen both had prime rib and lobster tail 17.99 every day special , had food to take home. This restaurant has been owned by same family since 1973 . Plenty of free parking, and a outside bar area and the inside is all about tropics , very cool. The also have a separate party room and of course a kicking bar with all of the tropic drink specials .Wish I could talk about dessert and App menu. Just could not do it full. Next time just App and Desert !

$32 crab legs, no meat inside! Waste of money!

We went 50 cent wing night on a cold Thursday night. There was a plethora of icicles coming off the roofs in every direction looking like heat loss is huge. Definitely an issue s it was chilly enough inside customers all wore their coats. Ordering and pick up is at the bar. Wings come in tens with a lot of options on the menu and a few not on it this night too. I went with off menu garlic hot honey and medium buffalo all crispy and celery and blue cheese for both. We also ordered the poutine - pic below. The poutine has the right amount of gravy lots of mozzarella and crispy fries. Definitely a crave-able dish. The wings were crispy as ordered. Garlic hot honey was yummy and sticky. Wet naps would be helpful but paper towels on tables were much better than napkins! The Buffalo mediums were good with heat a bit short on sauce but good. Barkeep was nice, friendly, and helpful. Poutine, 20 wings, 2 sodas, 1 bottled domestic beer came to $30 plus tip. Good deal. Would return if in the area.

The waitress is also amazing we never have had an issue with her or any other staff. But, the big longer tables are always reserved for the Karaoke people. We normally go as 6-10 of us most of the time and on our visit on February 20th we had 6 people and we could not sit together because the back room was an ice box and the front two long tables were reserved. We talked to staff and they know of the problem just the Owner doesn't seem to be fixing it. Usually its first come first serve, there Karaoke people don't get there till 6 were almost done eating by then. Id love to see a fix so we don't have any issues anymore. They say on their website good for groups not on Thursdays FYI.

Okay so grab a cup of coffee, this read might take a minute…read more.. First off, I've read some of the comments that have been left by other people, and all I can say is that some of you need to lighten up a little bit. This is not a five-star restaurant. Quite honestly this isn't even a four-star restaurant, it's a freaking diner. Eddie's restaurant started in 1934 as a hot dog stand. My parents used to go here back in the 1960s before I even existed, they used to bring my sister and I here in the 1970s. I'm pretty sure all they had back then was probably a deep fryer and a flat top. So anyway, partially because of the fact I haven't been here in about 40 years, and my mom hadn't been here in a couple years anyway (her and dad still used to frequent the place from time to time).. I picked her up and took her for Mother's Day. Upon entering this place, not a lot has changed. The basic layout of the dining room is the same as it was back in the 1970s, I think the chairs and and the booths might even be the same, I mean yeah reupholstered I'm sure but the golden color on the chairs I believe I remember from back in the 1970s. I'm sure this is actually part of the reason that people still frequent this place as often as they do. It's modern as far as I'm sure the kitchen is concerned however the dining area is almost like a step back into time. So anyway, we were seated and a waitress came up rather quickly. Her name was Anna, and she rocked. I like to bust chops from time to time and I will occasionally try it with wait staff at various restaurants, and although it doesn't always go very well, Anna picked up on this and fed it right back to me beautifully. She of course also did everything that a good waitress should be doing like checking on us a couple times and making sure we had everything. The food itself, I'm not going to lie wasn't that great. Okay I know you're thinking wait a minute this guy gave the place five stars but now he says the food isn't that great. I didn't say the food was bad, but I will go back to my previous comment and remind everybody that this is basically just a diner. I had the chicken and biscuits which was on special. It was good but it wasn't spectacular. Honestly it was a little bland I found myself using salt and pepper a couple of times. I'm 99% sure it was not made to order they probably had a big 10 gallon bucket of it on a burner somewhere in the kitchen, and they just gave me a couple scoops. Regardless of the fact that I didn't think it was spectacular it was just as I had expected it to be. I've had chicken and biscuits at many places and it tasted exactly right. My wife ordered a honey garlic pork dish which in my humble opinion was awesome. Kind of wish I had gotten that instead but, when I saw chicken and biscuits I just ordered it because that's what I do. The overall experience was perfectly fine. Like I said it's what I expected from this particular restaurant . The place was clean, including the bathrooms, everybody was very professional, it was rather busy being Mother's Day and it didn't really take that long for anything to come out to the table. (Yeah I know how long does it take to grab a couple scoops of chicken out of a 10 gallon bucket and put it on a plate but still they had to prepare my wife's meal so... the service was good) If I lived closer I would go back to this place a lot more often. I will also admit that my giving it five stars, some of you may be thinking well this guy has fond memories of Eddie's restaurant so of course he's going to throw it a high score, and yeah you're probably right. But this is my review and I can pretty much do what I want . So anyway, I definitely recommend Eddie's if you're in the Sylvan Beach area, and Anna, if you're reading this, awesome job...

There's not a lot of dinner options in Slyvan beach so we headed to Eddie's restaurant for dinner…read more The place a packed! We did wait for about 10 minutes for a table. While we were waiting, we checked out the menu and the delicious pies they had on display. We were finally sat. Kristy took care of us tonight. It did take a minute for her to get to us. She was hustling a few tables. Drinks were ordered and we all breezed over the dinner menu. The menu is quite broad. Breakfast, lasagna, seafood, sandwiches... You name it, they got it. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and shrimp cocktail for dinner. My daughter got the famous fish plate and my son got the tuna melt. Of course I was going to have a bite of their meals too. Clam chowder came out first. So did fresh rolls and homemade croutons for the soup. The rolls were good. I appreciate the amount of butter they give you. I love some bread with my butter. The homemade croutons were so good! They were savory and buttery! You added them babies to the clam chowder, delicious! The clam chowder was thick and hearty! Lots of potatoes and corn. It was on the cold side though. It was good but I'm sure it would have been better hot. The portion of the soup was huge! We all ordered cups and they were all bowl sized. Dinner came out and everyone's plates looked good. My daughter got two chunky pieces of fish on her plate. My son's tuna melt was thick with tuna. My shrimp cocktail looked really fresh. I honestly thought there would be more than just 5 pieces of shrimp. The shrimp wasn't the biggest. The cocktail sauce was heavy with horseradish and it was so good! The tuna melt was ok. My daughter's fish fry was tasty! It was fried perfectly and not too oily. The fresh haddock they use is so good. The fries were fried soft, my favorite. We were too full for dessert but thier huge dessert menu sounded so good. Maybe next time! Food was decent at Eddie's. The price point is pretty high but you do get decent portions, especially if you order fish. You can tell this joint has been a long time staple for Slyvan beach. I'm happy I got to try this local joint out. Kristy did a great job and it was fun to be with my family at this local joint.
