Came here for a tour while on a cruise and the place is setup to be very instagrammable with props and games to play as you wait for your tour to begin. After this waiting period, they take you into a tasting room to hear about the stages of the production process and you taste a few of the outputs which is all fun, then you go to try a cocktail. The options for cocktails are very limited and the store has a REALLY limited selection. You couldn't even buy bottles of what you tasted from the selection. The person running the store tried to make fun of folks wanting to purchase products stating that "didn't you listen to the tour, our distribution center is in Illinois, you can't buy it here!!!" This was a disappointing excursion and experience, wouldn't recommend. They gave me this lame wooden hockey puck at the end too to really say F U at the end instead of mini bottle of captain morgan as they promised. UPDATE: The manager on staff today 2025-04-23 came to my tour bus as we were leaving the place to give us an angry response about my review, looked at me on particular and blew me a kiss saying thanks for the 1 star review. Don't Waste Your Time Going !!! The Tour was CLOSED and the people were rude. They were supposed to be open till 8pm, but tours were over by 2pm. They also wanted you to Reserve a Tour ahead of time Online. But the link on their Website doesn't work. Also, the waitress in the restaurant was incompetent . She asked for our drink order and was bothered when asked if they had a drink menu. To order food they only had a marker board with the dishes listed. But we had to wait for the only other table in the room that was looking at it at the moment. Then it took 20 minutes just to get bottled water. The Rum Drinks were so watered down you couldn't taste any rum whatsoever. And finally, the waitress was annoyed by us asking for the check and couldn't be bothered with splitting the check amongst the guests at the table. Skip this tour if you're expecting a real distillery experience. I've toured Jack Daniels, George Dickel, and Cruzan -- this was by far the most disappointing. Yes, the building is beautiful and easily one of the nicest on St. Croix, and our tour guide was super nice and very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the experience itself just doesn't deliver. For $20 per adult and $10 per kid, the "tour" is just sitting in a tasting room while someone explains how rum is made. You get to smell a few samples and taste some rum, but that's it. No walking through the distillery, no seeing the equipment, no behind-the-scenes look at all. The whole thing was over in about 30 minutes. Afterward, you're taken to the bar/gift shop. Your ticket includes one drink, but the options are very limited. My spouse wanted a frozen drink and was charged an extra $10. The kids could pick from a few soft drinks. The gift shop has plenty of rum and souvenirs, but the prices are much higher than the grocery store just down the street. The biggest disappointment? Captain Morgan isn't even bottled here -- it's just distilled in bulk. Without seeing the process or the facility, it felt like we paid just to sit in a room and hear a sales pitch. If you want a true distillery tour, go to Cruzan instead. This one is an overpriced tasting with a gift shop stop -- not worth the time or money. read more

When I came here the first day, there was no cars in the parking lot, so I thought that they were closed. However, the gift shop was open. They were not doing any tours. They have a decent sized private lot. They also have a small display area that you can do a self guided tour for free. It has free post cards that you can write, a free photo booth, and a few photo ops, like with a statue of the Captain or a small dingy. It is a very neat organized, trendy and chic place. In order to come in, you must have a mask on properly. They are very strict on that. You must also get your temperature taking by looking into a screen. The facility has a small patio where you will find a statue of the Captain, doing his signature pose. There is seating out there for you to take a load off and relax. Inside in the display area where you will see the photo booth, and information placards and displays about Captain Morgan the man, how rum is made, your pirate name, and the history of the business. It does not take a lot of time to go through that area. Of course there is a Captain Morgan Gift Shop, where you can buy some of their booze (I think it is higher that getting it from a regular store), t shirts, books, rubber bar mats You will find the glass door that leads to the tasting room behind the gift shop. They do not do tours of tastings every day for some reason. And their phone was not working when I was there, so you would have to come in to the store to get their upcoming tour schedule. But you should definitely check to see if they are doing tours the day you plan on going, if that is what you want to do. This is an OK tourist trap. The trinkets and liquor in the gift shop are not discounted. They are probably marked up, if anything. The staff there is very friendly and helpful though. On my second visit, I came to take the tour/tasting. It was scheduled for 1230. I got there at 1220 and signed up. It costed $15. They started 15 minutes late though because they were waiting on a tour bus to bring more people. I was not a big fan of the wait because I was running on a tight schedule. The tour takes about 30 minutes and begins in the exhibit area by the barrels. There is where they explain the process of making rum. They then take you outside to the side gate and point out some interesting parts on the distillery which was next door. A lot of the points that were pointed out were hard to see. Once that is done, they split us up. One group was walk-ins like me. we stayed outside to do some tastings. The other group, which consisted of the people from the shuttles, went inside to do their tasting. They were still in there tasting after our group was dismissed. I don't know if it is a VIP tour our something. I got to sample 5 types of Captain Morgans liquors. My favorite was the pineapple rum. In addition to the liquor, you also get some cool photo ops with a statue of the Captain or in a mock boat. All in all, this was a forgettable experience. It would be much better if you could visit the plant. I guess $15 is not too bad, but it is only 30 minutes, and a lot of what they cover you can do during your self-guided time. So, I am on the fence for this place. Whether you do the free tour or the $15 tasting, I would probably not make this a special trip. You can get the same liquor at your local liquor store and the tour was not very memorable. read more

People complain about not being able to go into the distillery itself, but my Wife and I had a blast and ended buying a whole lot of rum to take back to the coast. Staff was very cordial and knowledgeable. Although they don't take you into the distillery the Captain's Visitor Center albeit small has a wealth of information and a quirky little antidotes that kept us entertained. The guide does a good job of telling how the process works, everyone gets to smell what the process from cane-molasses-190 proof-rum. It was fun. The tasting; although a little pricey was fun too. They give you about 8 shot glasses, which is plenty of product to sample. read more

My husband and I went on a tour of the Captain Morgan distillery as part of a cruise group! It was so informative and so fun! The tour guide told us all about the process, we got a complimentary cocktail and then shopped in the gift shop. They were out of some of the more popular items, but it happens. $15 for this so-called "tour", but it is literally nothing more than a 10 minute presentation on brand history/rum making process and a very measured tasting. Don't expect to see the actual distillery, nor taste the molasses, nor the cane juice, and sugar cane is imported from elsewhere so no fields either. "Tour guide" accent so heavy that information was very difficult to understand and truthfully. Typical corporate cash grab. Get em' in, take their money, get em' out, all while showing them little and offering them less. Post "tour" cocktails available for $5, so plan on paying extra for that. Tours like these are often intended as customer acquisition tools and to develop brand loyalty, but Captain Morgan offered the true pirate experience, leaving me feeling pillaged & plundered to the extent that i wont ever support this brand again. read more

While I was in St. Croix a couple months ago, this was on a lot of lists of 'Places to See' in St. Croix so I naturally had to go. This isn't a normal tour as they stopped doing tours of the actual facility a couple years ago, which I knew beforehand. So it was a small, self-guided tour with a guided rum tasting at the end. My experience was amazing. I went during the week and I was the only one there so I was one-on-one with the guide. She was great and was very knowledgeable about the rum. This was a great experience for me that I would gladly do over again. read more

The crew was a blast. We had a tour booked through Shore Things with Virgin Scarlett Lady. The ladies there were quite pleasant, although some of the items promised via the excursion guide were not provided, we talked with the manager, and apparently the excursion documentation has not been updated. Case in point, the excursion stated we would get a sample bottle of rum, but that has not been the case for the past 2 years. So Virgin needs to up date their documentation. Unfortunately some of the t-shirt sizes were unavailable and our favorite Captain Morgan product was unavailable, Long Island Ice Team and Black. This is to be expected at times and this can't be blamed on the Visitor Center as the bottling operation is not on site. In fact the bottling happens in Illinois so I can see being out of product at times. We had a blast chatting with the crew and not hesitate to visit the center again. read more

Went on a Saturday and it was closed. Then we went on a Wednesday when it was opened and the only we were allowed to do was shop at the gift shop. Appears there was a cruise ship at port that day and only the people who pre paid for the tour were allowed to do tastings. It was a disappointment. From the looks of it, the prices of their alcohol and gifts at the gift shop, are pricy compared to Cruzan. If you want to tour this place, don't just go on a whim. The newer rum tour on St. Croix is the Captain Morgan Visitor Center. They have been open a year (since April of 2012) for visitors, but came in and built the distillery a few years ago, moving here from Puerto Rico due to lots of tax incentives... politics. Captain Morgan has spent a whole heck of a lot of money to put together this visitor center. It's what Cruzan is not. It's glitzy and glamorous and fun, but the tour of the facility is not as good as the Cruzan tour. When you arrive at Captain Morgan Visitor Center, you go into the large and full gift shop to pay your $10. You then do a self guided tour through the "museum". The museum is mostly signs and photos on the wall that go over the history or St. Croix, the history of rum, the history of Captain Morgan, etc... It's very informative, but a lot of reading. They also have some video screens, but none of them worked and some of the lights over the sections were out. For a year old, it could use a little maintenance. After the reading part, there is a film about Captain Morgan that talks about the advertising and branding of the product and the "mascot" It was funny and fun. After the film, they take you out to a tram where you get on, seatbelt yourselves in and drive about 500 feet where they stop and then tell you about the facility. Oh, by the way, no photos on this tram tour. Then they drive you down the middle of the giant tanks to a warehouse where you get off the tram and they show you and let you smell some bottles of molasses and rum in the different stages of development. Then you get on the tram and ride back to the visitor center. It was silly and hokey. They'd do better just showing it on the film. But, the funny part is you can totally take pictures from outside of the fence, so that's just weird that you can't take pictures. At the end, you get two coins good for two drinks. They have a menu of options and I think you might be able to ask for something off the menu, too. The drinks were delish. Then you exit through the gift shop, of course! Lots of fun Captain Morgan stuff. I recommend a visit here, because it is fun and it's especially cool if you can make the time to do both Captain Morgan AND Cruzan so you can see the differences between the two. It really enhanced our visits by doing both as it was an interesting contrast. They are like 2 miles from each other. This tour is actually much easier for those with mobility issues, so if you can't walk up and down stairs or get around too easily, you may want to choose Captain Morgan's facility over the Cruzan facility, which has stairs and uneven ground to traverse. We went on the Captain Morgan distillery tour during a cruise stop in Jan 2017. First of all, for those of you interested in going on a rum distillery tour during your visit to St Croix, you have two options-- you can do the Captain Morgan's tour like I did, or you can go to the Cruzan Rum tour. The Cruzan rum factory is the original, older, more traditional rum factory on St Croix. Captain Morgan distillery originally started in Jamaica, and this distillery on St Croix is a huge industrial complex that's relatively new. So if you're interested in learning more about the history of rum on St Croix, how rum is made, etc.... you're probably better off going to Cruzan. On the other hand, if you really enjoy Captain Morgan rum and want a kids-friendly tour with a generous rum tasting afterwards for a low price of $10/adult... Captain Morgan might be more up your alley. My wife and I had already learned about the basics of the rum making process at the Mount Gay rum distillery tour in Barbados a few years ago, so we just wanted to tour Captain Morgan-- to whom we owe many fun nights during our college days. To that end, the Captain Morgan tour did not disappoint! read more

The experience was fun worth the short taxi ride. I'm glad I was able to cross it off my list of distilleries. The main pro was simply the small group size. There were I my 3 people, myself included. The cons. The tour was short, very industrial as opposed to scenic, and there just was not much to offer. At the end of the tour there was a tasting but it was more just a bar. There was but a lot of variety or anything special or exclusive to the distillery. There was no presentation on the liqueur either. One and done for me. read more

For $15 a person it is advertised that you will get a video presentation, a trolley tour of the property, be able to read the history and visit the sample room. Been on this tour and while it's flashy with help of technology, I felt I really didn't get that 'hands on' that I did when I took the Cruzan Rum tour. I understand the logistics of lawsuits and the legalities of customer safety, but I felt so restricted. First, you pay $10 and get to watch some photos that told the story of the company. Next, I heard there was a video to watch, but it wasn't available at that time. Then you get buckled-up on a cramped-up tram for, what feels like, a 100 foot ride to distillery. You're not allowed to enter the actual facility and you basically get a Q&A session outside the warehouse. You then get on the tram and see another 200 feet of distillery with explanation of the piping and then head back to the visitors center. The, almost-saving-grace is that you get 2 "free" drinks at the end of the tour by the guest bar. But that's it. Don't think you can buy anymore. Due to legalities, they can only serve 2 drinks per visitor (sigh). All-in-all , it was an okay experience; but I prefer the Cruzan Tour over this any day. read more

Don't go. Better option is to check out Cruzan Distillery. People there are friendly and generous with their pours. The tour at Captain Morgan started with us being told that we had turn our phones off and photographs were not allowed. The tour didn't really allow us to see the plant. Then, when we finally got to the tasting room, the pourer seemed more in interested in getting us out than actually letting us enjoy the experience. She spent more time texting and on Facebook than giving us information and even suggested that we leave with our drinks. Waste of ten dollars and our time. read more

This tour was so much fun! You walk through a few rooms with more info on sugar and rum in St Croix before you take a quick tram ride around the facility. After that you come back to the bar where you can sample all of their products and have 2 cocktails. Really fun little tour. Definitely recommend trying the X-Marks The Spot and a shot of Cannon Blast. Then buy some Cannon Blast to take home and mix with Dr Pepper and cranberry juice. Sounds weird but its delicious. One of two rum tours on the island. Here you meet in a sort of history of St Croix and rum informational area where you're then taken to a tram that takes you on a very short tour of the facility narrated by a "Captain Morgan" recording. Your then given a glimpse of a storage building where the rum is put in and taken out of the aging barrels. From there your taken to the hospitality area for rum samples. Overall it's too Disneyesque in presentation and not much fun. Go to the Cruzan Rum factory, it's significantly better. read more

It's basically a long commercial for the brand - 20 minute video presentation, a drive-around-the-lot tour that doesn't actually show anything, and a two-drink-each tasting session. Very short tour, but it ends on a high note with good drinks and healthy pours. If you like captain give it a try!
