It was a terrific day in so many ways. The catamaran is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. It was very stable on the water and there was plenty of room for all of us. We had 18 people on our trip, but it could have easily handled 30. The boat has two ladders in the back so getting in and out of the water was relatively easy. We made three stops, the first being Turtle Beach, on the leeward side of Buck Island. They do this stop first to give everyone some beach time (it is a gorgeous beach), and also to allow everyone to practice our snorkeling in a more protected and supervised environment. This also allows the crew to determine who might need extra help during the reef part of the tour. The second stop is on the windward side of Buck island, where the reef is. My wife grew up here in St. Croix, but I had never been to Buck Island National Monument. It was nothing short of spectacular. I have never seen anything like it. The reef was teeming with beautiful fish and the reef itself is like an underwater mountain range that you are flying over. Simply amazing. Those that needed help to navigate the reef were given the assistance they needed. We had two non-swimmers on board and yet they were able to safely enjoy most of the experience. Sienna led the way for the experienced snorkelers while Jackie hung back to help folks that needed more guidance. Once we were all safely back on board, they started serving "Mutiny Punch"(fruity vodka drink), in addition to non-alcoholic punch (water is available throughout). We then we were off to Big Beard's private beach, back on St. Croix where a neat little sheltered picnic area was situated just steps off the beach. Captain Peter started cooking hot dogs, regular burgers and veggie burgers, in addition to Mahi (the fish varies on each trip). The food attracted the local wildlife, including several friendly cats and dozens of curious mongooses. After about 90 minutes or so, we all got back on board and headed back to Christensted harbor. One of the things that really stood out was the engagement and dedication of the crew. They all love the island, love the Big Beard organization, and are super-focused on the guest experience and made the day even more enjoyable seeing them work together as a team. Thank you for a great day, Peter, Jackie and Sienna! It was a great value and a great experience. My wife & I cannot recommend this excursion more enthusiastically!

I have never been snorkeling before so I was a bit nervous. Because of this we opted for the 3 1/2…read morehour tour . They take you out to Buck Island and show you how to properly snorkel and make sure you're comfortable and competent. That part of the tour was about an hour. As a short person, I had difficulty getting back on the boat, but staff was very helpful. They then take you out to the reef and split you into groups. The guide takes you around the reef for around 15 minutes and then you are able to explore on your own. I was initially not going to get off the boat at the reef due to my difficulty not being able to get back on when we were closer to land, but staff encouraged me to go and told me they would make sure I got on the boat no matter what. They stuck to their word.. on the way back, they made us from punch and we all had a great time. Highly recommend!!

LOVED THIS! The tide pools are a once in a lifetime experience and pictures really don't do it…read morejustice. Our tour guide, Kendall, was AMAZING! He is very knowledgeable about the area and was an absolute expert navigating the terrain of the rain forest and mountain. It's a really fun ride when you have a driver/tour guide that you trust! Kendall was fantastic - highly recommend requesting him! The waves around the rocks surrounding the tide pools were very intense and I had zero fear because Kendall really knew what he was doing! You have to do a little bit of rock climbing to get to the pools but Kendall gave us step-by-step instructions and it was a blast. (I am not a rock climber!) I wish I brought a waterproof phone case to bring my phone to the actual tide pools. It was breathtaking and so fun to swim in!

Please see the attached pictures and read the facts of our experience and decide what would be best for you and yours. Attached are pictures of the facility and their equipment including the two working Jeeps on this day. By lunch time they only had one working Jeep. We left out in "The Green Machine " just after 9 am. We made a stop at the gas station for fuel. We made our way out to Udall Point and then on our way the west side of the island at about 11:15 an while on the main road, not off road, we saw the the rear right wheel and axle pass in front of us. It flew ahead of us and luckily slammed into a tree on the roadside and not into on coming traffic. Our driver was able to get the Jeep off the road just a few feet from a telephone pole. A few more feet we would have slammed head on into the pole. If not for a Good Samaritan who stopped to check on us we would have been stuck on the side of the road for more than 2 hours. A tow truck showed up fairly quickly and hauled off "The Green Machine." The Good samaritan took us and the driver a couple more miles up the road to the chicken shack where we waited until after 2:00 pm for the one other working Jeep to come pick us up. We did have a good lunch at the Chicken Shack. The lady who took our money and another gentleman showed up in the other Jeep. Our driver loaded us up on this Jeep and we returned to the office. I had to hold the door shut on the way back. Upon the return to the Tan Tan office we were offered the option to complete the trip this day or schedule a half day tour another day. Being that we were more than 2 and half hours behind schedule and had dinner reservations we were not able to continue this day. We were not able to reschedule for another half day tour during the remainder of our trip. We asked for a full refund form the lady who took our cash and she informed us she could not refund our money. We asked to speak to the owner. She informed us the owner was not on the islands but was able to get him on the phone. We advised him we wanted a full refund due to the unfulfilled tour and being put in an unreasonable dangerous situation due to the faulty vehicle. Take a look at the picture and make a call for your own safety. The owner refused to refund our money. He offered half a refund or a half day tour another day. We advised neither option would work for us. We simply wanted a refund. He flat out said he would not refund our money & we informed him we would make a factual post of our experience on social media with Tan Tan, with pictures and seek legal assistance to recoup our money. We offered to accept a refund and take no further action and part on good terms. The owner refused to refund our money and told us to do what we needed to. So here we are. Please review pictures and make a decision for yourself.

He took us back and forth all over the island and was cheerful, professional, and super-helpful. Two different people left their sunglasses at two different places, and he went all the way back for them. Really, it was pretty amazing. Also, Warren's adorable son Javyn (don't call him Jamie!) drove us to and from the airport. It was a treat to be with a young person just starting out in the business. OMG!!! This was an amazing excursion! I am so glad we found these ladies as the excursion and the…read moreattention given to us was top-notch! Our small group consisted of one experienced rider, one rider with some experience, and two novice riders. The girls who led the ride were both amazing and were eager to talk about the history of the island and our horses, which were all rescues, save one. They shared stories of how the horses got their names, as well as how they'd survived on the island with no power for almost a year after a hurricane destroyed the island's infrastructure. Our ride took us through the old sugar plantations and onto the beach before taking us into the water. Before entering the water, we were warned about the behaviors to watch for in our horses that would indicate the horse was about to lay down in the water, as they like to do sometimes and what to do if the horse did lay down. My horse, Alien, apparently loves the water so much that he moans the entire time, and he loves swimming! This was not your typical cruise ship excursion where you walk your horse in the shallow water. We were in about 5' of water, and it was AWESOME!!! I felt like I could have stayed and ridden horses on the beach and in the water all day, and yes, Alien made his "ohhhh this feels so good" noises the entire time we were in the water. My shorts were completely soaked, but I expected that and I wasn't bothered by it! The warm sun meant they dried quickly. I rode barefoot because I was wearing flip flops, and I didn't want to risk losing them on the ride. It was my choice, but I recommend if you're not comfortable with riding barefoot, wear something like water shoes, old sneakers, or Crocs. After several correspondence back and forth with him having an excuse with each notice. After contacting my bank, I finally got my refund two months later! Just Beware!

We did the night Bioluminescent kayak tour-in one word, MAGICAL!!…read more Travis is the main guide and he has a crew of guides who are there for your safety, comfort and information. Travis walks you through what awaits you, answers any questions and makes sure everyone is in a life jacket. I had hurt my shoulder so my son paddled and Travis put a tow rope from his kayak to ours and we appreciated it. Once we got to the bioluminescent bay the darkness fell and the magic started. Look up at the star filled sky (where I live they can't be seen very well) and be filled with a sense of wonder. Look down and watch the light show made by nature and your paddle. I used my hands to scoop up the "light" and splash it. If a fish swims by, it's with a streak of light. All the while, Travis is educating, telling jokes and making sure everyone is comfortable and safe. I'm 72 and have never had an experience like this, it filled me with childlike wonder. Be sure to wear things that can get wet and if you want to take photos, a waterproof case. I did neither and my only regret is I didn't get photos.
