My family and I were able to book the Van Dutch for 12 people, same day. Rueben was extremely accommodating and was able to put everything together, even last minute. We had food ordered and Captain Newport picked it up and got it ready for us on the boat. Captain Newport picked up drinks of our choice for us as well. Further update: below, you can see the response the owner made.. claiming I am a liar and attempting to extort this business. They claimed they had no record of my charter, yet I have countless phone records, venmo payment (from first charter with this company), along with text/email communications which can verify my trip, along with any claims I have made regarding Reuben and his business. After reviewing many yelp reviews, I noticed a common trend that the owner of this business harasses, threatens, intimidates, and defames people who leave reviews resulting in possible libel. As you can see in the screenshots I've attached, this man is a nutcase and he will go to any lengths, including being offensive and spiteful, and he (in my case) will go after your personal integrity. I respect someone who takes pride in their business, but this isn't pride it's just a selfish person who acts as a broker in Newport Beach. Simply put, if you chose to charter with this broker, you may have a great experience, and I am happy for you. If you are unsatisfied with your trip however, forget Reuben being kind if you decide to leave a review and plan for him to attack you personally which could potentially be harmful. read more

Our captain, Captain Richard, was such a fun and kind soul and made our day easy, carefree and relaxing. Normally we would have gone out of Marina del Rey, but my cousin wanted us to go out of Newport to make it easier for her. So we google a couple of places and happened upon this one. Boating is always fun! Captain Toby was awesome. We stopped to help out some drifters in need. Big hearts! Donzi is beautiful, could fit 12 but personally I wouldn't want to be on it with 12. We had 9 and it was perfect. Of course I'm not counting the cabin space, bc you don't want to be down there in motion. I'm talking about 9 comfortably on deck. Reason for the 4 star and not 5. Had we not check the bathroom, we would had no toilet paper & a dirt toilet when we were out. Thats a no no. But other than that. Donzi staff was great. Reuben was a pleasure on the phone when we booked and Alexandria called to check on us the next day. The day was pretty epic!!! If you don't normally go boating, you should! We had a beautiful charter at Christmas to look at the lights on the Bay. Reuben was wonderful to work with. He always takes phone calls and if he can't he gets back almost immediately to you.. That's very important to me in business. The captain that we had, Mike T , was also wonderful and more like going out on the boat with a friend. That was a night cruise to see Christmas lights but I am booking again next week for a day cruise out in the ocean with the same captain, Mike. Rates are very reasonable for what you get ..there's nothing like going out in a beautiful powerboat, especially out on the ocean....we are hoping to see whales and dolphins next week....they have been seen often lately. I can't wait for the cruise next week with a visitor from AZ!! I will schedule again the next time I have guests visiting from somewhere else. Despite all the good, bad and ugly reviews here, I decided to leave a note here to help you with how to deal with this company properly because if you do, you probably will have a better experience. They are not bad people necessarily but they are not conducting the business honorably. I spoke with one of the captains and he was very nice but then the management is either too greedy or comes out looking shady. So here is how your story goes with them if you try them: you have probably found them through getmyboat or boatsetter. You get a message from them after you send an inquiry that encourages you to see their fleet by directing you to visit their website because they claim the cool pictures that attracted you are royalty free stock photo or the boats are out of commission and they have comparable ones. You say okay and give them a try. The boats are not comparable so if you insta-pictured yourself on a luxury boat think again. Then the boat that catches your eye is $1500 more expensive... well that leaves you high and dry but you really don't have much option because apparently there is a semi-monopoly in Newport and they have more boats than the rest in Newport Beach (I guess). Then you get a call and you are encouraged to book on their website so they don't have to pay commission to boatsetter. That got me right there. I immediately called boatsetter but their mailbox was full and it said due to COVID they don't have a live person. I emailed Boatsetter but no response yet. Anyways, I then asked if we get a more expensive boat and since they don't pay commission to boatsetter can I get some discounts but the guy who runs the business offered to receive payment using VENMO so he can accommodate a little. Then I realized wow this guy who is cheating on boatsetter and Uncle Sam at the same time deserves two star instead of one. After all, our president also takes pride in tax evasion. I ended up not going with them and in-fact gave up on the whole idea because due to COVID there is a lot of demand for boating but I hope this note here lasts longer than COVID and they realize this is not a proper way to do business when the demand is high. Like I said the captain was nice but the owner/management are far away from that point on the moral spectrum. read more
