We had a great time on a 3-hour charter, celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary and showing my husband some of the places I used to hang out and sail when I was growing up. The rest of our party was unable to attend at the last minute (due to wildfires up north, not because they didn't want to celebrate with us lol), but our captain, Mike, made sure we had a nice time. He was super chill and happy to listen to memories while also sharing his insights and info as a local himself. The classes were very informative and prepared me well for the 101 exam. I had 3 different captains help me in my hands on sailing classes. I had an amazing time on my 4hr sunset charter. The team was extremely friendly and even worked out a payment plan! We spent our evening on Angele a Beneteau 35.1 with captain Alan. Not only was the boat in great condition, but they had even put up a congratulations banner, some balloons, and left champagne on boat as they knew we were celebrating my college graduation! Captain Alan was great! He kept everyone laughing, and even let us steer the boat for a little bit. He knew everything about the harbor, and even took us to some hidden spots! I went out Saturday with 4 friends on a beautiful 2012 sailboat with Chris (the owner) as our captain and we had an AMAZING TIME!!!! First of all, Chris has a great sense of humor and was truly a pleasure to hang out with for 4 hours. He will let you contribute to your sailing experience as much as you'd like. My group chose to drink lots of wine rather than pitch in which was fine too. Basically this is a good choice if you're looking to sail or if you're looking to party. Secondly, our little sailing adventure was absolutely stunning and extremely relaxing and fun. We went all around the coast and sailed with an enormous pod of dolphins for at least 30 minutes, which was pretty incredible. This was definitely one of the nicest sailboats that I've ever been on, and I would highly recommend using Newport Beach Sailing Charters for Newport locals and tourists alike. We all had a great time and he dropped us off at a restaurant (instead of the harbor) which was pretty cool and good for my appetite. Hopefully next time we will do the Catalina overnight trip, because that is one fancy lookin' place to have a sleepover. Also, swimming off the boat is definitely allowed! read more

He spent time with us even outside of the boat and showed us his favorite spots, it was like a free tour of the island from practically a local. From the moment I emailed them; to the accuracy and timeliness of all information - to most importantly the Sail itself, everything was A++. We met with Captain David, who is one of the most knowledgeable and affable guys I've come across. Since he's also a Sailing instructor, he explained what was going on throughout our time with him. He was the perfect mix of conversation; instructor, tour guide, while also allowing us to talk to ourselves, or simply enjoy the wind and scenery. We were with Captain David for 3 hours and his ability to sense everything we needed from start to finish was uncanny. The boat, too, was beautiful. The cabins were immaculate and every piece of bar ware, dinner ware, along with cushions and decks were as if brand new. We've already looked at the calendar to book our next voyage with this group. The boats are beautiful Captain Mike is awesome! The team of people they have working here are all so nice and accommodating. The first trip I ever booked weather (cause some times we have that in California X) ) actually made it impossible to go out, but these guys were so nice about letting us reschedule, and Im so gladtoo because every trip after was amazing. On a side note I live about 2 hours north and swear there is always more marine life in Newport than by the beach where I live. Maybe dolphins like Newport more then Venice beach ;) who knows. My wife and I have just completed the sailing week to gain ASA 101, 103 and 104 with Newport Beach Sailing School. We were really impressed with the speed that Tom and DeeAnna responded to our enquiries and by the wealth of information they provided when we had booked. We were somewhat apprehensive about the learning curve before arriving having received 3 volumes to learn prior to the start but the quality of the instruction made it all worth while. Our instructors were Capts Mike Kohl and Bob Strang and if you are lucky enough to have them as your instructors you are lucky indeed. For us to go from a couple who had never sailed anything larger than a Laser Pico to being able to handle a 38ft sailing cruiser confidently in a week takes some doing and is entirely down to their excellent hands on approach. We would thoroughly recommend Newport Beach Sailing School to anyone wanting to gain their ASA certifications. read more
