Captains Gally is one of the best seafood restaurants I've ever eaten at. Location does not matter.

Two of us had flounder and it was mushy. Was not fresh! There were a group of us that eat at the Galley and I'm not sure what the others responses were to their dinner. read more

Server was really nice! The beautiful murals on the walls have been painted over with a depressing grey-blue. They look kinda dusty and dirty. The seats are worn. The food was underseasoned and bland. Uninspired. Somehow, the stuffed crab was burnt and undercooked. The shrimp and scallops were overcooked, and unseasoned. The flounder was bland, and had a hard uneven texture. The oysters were out of a can I could get for a dollar. It looked like some of the cooks were not wearing hairnets, and would come out of the back and sit in a corner. I got sick from eating and was gagging for at least an hour after leaving. I called the restaurant to warn them to check for any contamination, and the employee who spoke [supposedly a manager] said their food was fine. I've been nauseous for an hour now. Would not recommend. This places glory days are long gone, and their customers are in danger of getting food illnesses. read more

I know it seems unusual to give a casual seafood place in Granite Falls 5 stars, but recently I've found this place on my commute to my new job, and after 4 visits- this is the closest you'll get to the freshest fish, and the best service this far inland. It's amazingly fresh!! And the service is great. You can feel there's a standard here. I've eaten at another seafood joint in Hickory and the best thing about that plate was the slaw. Yikes. But outside of a coastal seafood meal, it's that good. Seriously, a great experience each time. 5 visits now- still good!! read more

Food was excellent but the service was extremely slow and neglectful. The waitress that took our order seemed very impatient, unfriendly and seemed lacked knowledge of the menu. It took half an hour for our first course to come out and another 40 minutes for the second course after we had finished the first. After we were done eating it seemed they forgot about us because we waited 25 minutes for the check before we had to get up and ask for it. We were in the restaurant for over 2 hours which seemed excessive for only ordering 2 courses for each person in a party of 5. The monkfish katsu was one of the best curries I've ever had and the haggis bon bons were very nice as well. I would give the food 5 stars but the service 1 or 2 stars. read more

We are from the Boston area and this is by far the best seafood we've had since moving here.

Newspaper reviews aside, this is the best seafood place Caldwell county. Where CG really shines are the fish entrées. It's hard to go wrong with any of them. You get generous portions, that are consistently tasty and properly cooked, although some may find them a bit underseasoned. That lack of seasoning seems to be common for pretty much all of their fried offerings. I usually get the large flounder plate, and it's always good, except there is always at least one piece with bones. Even so, I've tried flounder in dozens of restaurants on the NC/SC coast and none of them had a better flounder fillet. Where other restaurants use a heavy breading to hide a smaller piece of fish. Captain's Galley offers a bigger piece of fish, with very light breading. Most of the other seafoods and sides are also decent. psalm you can tell are frozen, but they still work. The Cajun shrimp appetizer is one of the best, IMO. The hushpuppies are the sweet variety, but also very good. Unfortunately, a few items range from blah to nearly inedible. The fries are always bland, undercooked, and soggy, especially if you order takeout. They put them in the same container as the fish, so by the time you get home they're soaked with moisture. Being undercooked and apparently not seasoned in any way doesn't help. 20 minutes in an oven and a sprinkling of salt can salvage them, but you shouldn't have to do that. The baked potatoes are usually bland, soggy, mushy, and taste old. The coleslaw is watery, too sweet and nothing to write home about.The most disappointing item on the menu is the crabcakes. They appear not to be made in-house, taste awful and look like a frozen, mass-produced puck from an institutional supplier. The service is great, especially given all the Covid restrictions. So, go for the fish, but avoid those fries and crabcakes. read more

We won't be back. The table was nasty. The silverware was dirty. I had to ask for clean silverware. There was more breading in the fish than there was actually fish. Our waitress never came to refill drinks or check on us. read more

It's not "sea side fresh" but it's certainly not bad. It's extremely southern in taste and style, so beware whenever ordering if you're not from the Lenoir area. Honestly, it's a fast and good quality sea food joint that is quite tastey. read more

Used to be very good. Used to be! Last three visits have been complete strikes. Food is incredibly greasy and came out luke-warm at best. Baked potatoes taste like they were left overs from the previous day. An occasional bad meal might be overlooked, but they have struck out. The waitresses are always great, but the kitchen is going to put them in the unemployment line. read more

Tonight i got take out. Half Alaskan white fish and half shrimp. This feeds four grown starved men. Very cheap prices. I called 10 minutes from restaurant. They gave me the time expected to cook as 25 minutes. When i arrived my food was hot and ready. Cashier was nice and moved the line fast. Got four baked potatoes instead of fries. My potatoes were cooked perfect. There fries are always soggy. Don't get them! The fish was so flaky. Shrimp was perfect. read more

Hadn't been here for a while so we decided to give a go. We waited over 30 minutes to be seated due to the 50% capacity state mandate, not a problem although frustrating. Waited another 30 minutes to receive our food after placing our order which shouldn't have took that long as only 50% tables occupied. Food arrived cold like it had been sitting a while before being served. The fried catfish was a tiny 8 inch long skinny fish cooked with skin, fins and bones. There wasn't even enough meat to pull from the bones to get a clean piece of fish. Had to request another serving without bones, which they did, but it took another ten minutes before that came out. The coleslaw wasn't chilled but room temperature like it has been sitting out of the refrigerator for quite some time. Waitress was friendly but appeared overwhelmed and tired. Cross the Captain's Galley off our list. Should have gone to Poncho Villa like we originally planned as their service and food are consistently good. read more

Tonight I placed a family order of Alaskan white fish with the sides. When I got home and we sat down to eat I took my 1st bite of slaw. To my horror there was a huge nasty black hair in the slaw!! I called to speak to a manager who not only was rude but tried to make it out as if it was no big deal. She did offer to give me a free individual cup of slaw next time I was there. I asked her who her manager was and she said George. I asked to speak to George who refused to take my call. They did not want to deal with the problem at hand. SANITATION is a HUGE DEAL to me. As I spoke to this un-named voice on the phone she seemed aggravated that I had taken the time to care for my family's health on the matter. Her excuse was "the guy that makes the slaw has hairy arms and one of his arm hairs just got in the slaw is all" I was not only appalled by her shrug off of my health concerns but also that it seemed like it was no big deal to her and that this possibly happens a LOT. After a lengthy phone call and blatant disregard for my concerns the manager "George" apparently told this other "manager" to just give me a free meal to shut me up. Im EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in this company. This is not how issues should be handled. I will not be eating from here again. read more

Normally a very good place to eat! Not on this past Saturday. We had a double birthday party along with some friends from church. We booked it a month in advance. When we arrived, they tried to put all 30 of us into two tables on the main floor, so we had a fight to get the room we had booked. Nothing was set up, Then we had to wait for an hour to get about 10 of us some food, after ordering. Then they started running the next group in on us about an hour before our scheduled time was through. Wouldn't have been a problem if the food was served on time. My food was cold, old the seafood was not fresh or good. I couldn't eat over 1/2 of it. Even the cole slaw and hushpuppies were not good, normally great. I don't know about the condition of management but they have a real problem. read more

I've been here many times since I was a kid and I like the food, for the most part. Slightly greasy and definitely unhealthy but it tastes pretty good despite that flaw. The decor definitely sets the theme of being in a seafood restaurant! Overall, this place is good and I would recommend you try it once or twice. read more
