This is something I've never had to do but due to the lack of response from their management, I'd figure I'd make this post public. But, sadly the roaches are more responsive than the management/staff. After 2 emails and no response. The location is phenomenal but the actual conditions of the "Gardenia Suite" were very poor. The bathroom had signs of mold and mildew, corners of the bathroom were deteriorated due to moisture and soft and plaster was falling. The actual shower had a mix of grout that had broken off and sand from a prior guest. Every morning, I'd be greeted with a roach in the common area/kitchen. I can understand being close to the beach and pests can be an issue but over a short weekend stay, it was about 5-6 roaches that I had to dispose of. This is one of the oddest and most bizarre places I've ever seen. Bugs are strange people are strange, apparently everyone owns a boxer, there are no smokers here, all bars and restaurants close at ten. You can't buy cigarettes, you can't buy beer after seven pm. There is no internet, phone service is terrible and the only 5 stations on the tv all have the same religious show on , I'm creeped out and are leaving first thing in the morning... and it's our honeymoon! read more

We stayed at the Captiva Island Inn in early December, before the post-Christmas rush. It was a quiet weekend for them, so they upgraded us from a room to a cottage unsolicited. Half the cottages are south of Andy Rosse Lane, the others north. I suggest requesting a north cottage if you can - the ones to the south are set around a gravel parking lot, which doesn't strike me as particularly appealing. Ask for the Iris, Jasmine, Daisy, or Rosebud units, which open up to a small planted courtyard on the north side of the road. Our cottage had a vagabond-ish feel, which is perhaps my way of saying it was a little long in the tooth and in need of some updating. Honestly, I didn't really care; I've stayed in much more barebones accommodations, and there was nothing wrong with the quiet season rate. The kitchen had a motley collection of cookware, which means you're not likely to prepare a gourmet meal, but if you're willing to make do, it's adequate enough. If I had a complaint, it would be that I didn't particularly care for the aggressively bed-and-breakfast-ish decor, which in the case of our cottage was a lilac color scheme. Personally I would vote for a surfer shack aesthetic, if you really want my opinion. Or anything with less purple in it would be fine too. As other reviewers have noted, the real charm is the location. It's a five-minute walk down a quiet stretch of road to a breathtakingly beautiful beach, and yeah, the sunsets are nothing to complain about. The nearby restaurants are decent enough, and there's a small grocery in walking distance that has enough components for a halfway decent meal. FYI, there's no wifi, but the ice cream/coffee shop next door has free wifi that reaches the north cottages. Because it was a quiet weekend, they let us check out at noon rather than the usual 10AM when we left on Monday morning, which means we were able to get another leisurely walk along the beach in morning before we flew out. If you're looking for five-star accommodations, you should probably try the South Seas Resort up the road; if you're looking for a laidback environment and nice people, the Captiva Island Inn is not a bad place to stay. read more

Ew. We call our "cabins" tents with walls. If you want to sleep without ants crawling on you, go elsewhere. The shower is nasty. There is dust and cobwebs everywhere. The TV is fuzzy and has no good channels. The air conditioner works. A little bit. The beds are abysmal. It's nasty and old and hard. Also lumpy. The pull out couch is awful. Everything is in disrepair and is dirty. There is a maid service, don't expect much. They have Palmolive dish soap for the few dishes they provide, which we used as hand soap because that isn't provided. That being said, its a good location, with okay restaurants (overpriced) nearby. They provide some hangers, which is nice. The pool is small, but clean and it's adorable. read more

Okay the cottage we stayed in was NOT at all what the picture showed. The Bird of Paradise. It was dirty. I don't think it's ever been dusted. The bathroom sink got stopped up also. There was a double outdoor couch on the front porch with filthy cushions. The restaurants owned by Stilwell were Very good. The walk to the beach was short and Awesome. My husband and I are not fussy when we go for weekend beach getaways. We live in Fort Myers. But when I had to sweep the floor because it was gross. there was stuff under the bed and under the chair, which was broken, that were items left from other guests and leaves from outside. Clearly no one ever cleaned it. The top of the dressers were so dirty along with the top of the microwave with an inch of dust on it. It's too bad because we probably won't come back and stay there. read more

Just back from 6 days at theInn in the Hibiscus cottage. My wife and I had the best beach vacation we've had in a long time. This is Old Florida kind of place. We parked the car for 6 days and did not drive until we left. 6 restaurants within walking distance. One right on the beach for sunsets, Mucky Duck. One next to cottage where breakfast included, Keylime Bistro. Beach, a 2 minute walk. Yes, some things a little worn but it follows CDC guidelines, staff wears masks at all venues. If you want a relaxed "Island Time" stay, this is a great place to stay. read more

Nice location with two restaurants next door providing the included breakfast. Unfortunately otherwise we were quite disappointed by the service. The on-site pool has been closed by the health department but no one told us till after we checked in and headed to it and found the sign. The staff indicated the closing was not due to water quality but the bricks around the pool being loose. Not sure that's a good excuse though and we feel they should have notified us when we booked the room. No hairdryers in rooms as promised, even after several requests they didn't provide one. And pillows were flat as pancakes making the bed rather uncomfortable. We requested new pillows too but they didn't arrive either. Too bad I can't give it a better rating because the spot near the water was great. read more

The nice photos are not reflective of this place. Maybe it was clean on the first day they opened! When I checked in it was soooooooooo dirty, moldy and dusty. The only thing housekeeping seems to do is change the bed. They certainly had not cleaned. When I spoke to housekeeping, the ONE girl that was on told me she had all the rooms and cottages to do herself. No wonder the only thing that can be done is to change the linens. Even the restaurants (owned by the same owners) are dirty and sticky. The cottages sure look sweet when you look at them online, but not when you see them. They are located down an alley that is a gravel parking lot for the cars of the cottage guests or the restaurant patrons. You have to walk by the smelly, fenced-in large garbage area behind the restaurant to go down the alley to the cottages. And in the heat, this really does smell badly. 2 cottages are located right next to the garbage and you can smell it inside. read more

As far as location and price on Captiva, the Inn can't be beat. The room was comfortable, but we didn't get any housekeeping service for 5 days and the floor got kind of sandy pretty quickly. I'd suggest leaving a broom in the common area kitchen for that purpose--I would have gladly swept up our floor. Breakfast each morning at the Key Lime Bistro and RC Otters was a treat and they have really delicious seafood breakfast items on the menu that I highly recommend--especially because it is included! There's a decent, if rusty, selection of beach chairs and umbrellas. And now there's a little cooler for your beach drinks in one of the kitchen cupboards. Please enjoy as much as we did! Andy Rosse Lane is where you want to be on Captiva. Don't even think of staying on the overpriced resort unless you really, really, really like tennis. read more

Have stayed one night so far and it's been nice! Cute cottages & we got upgraded to a larger cottage! There is a yucky smell outside but it is Florida and there's lots of smells from wells and all so it's tolerable. We received a free bottle of wine if our choice, (merlot), free breakfast at the two nice restaurants next door & free bike rentals we plan to use today! Pet friendly!! The bed was small but very comfortable! Couch is a pullout for those needing it. Great spot and I would definitely come back!! Clean room! Clean pool area. Everything is in walking distance that we need! Have not moved car since we arrived yesterday! Love that!! read more

My wife and I had one night to visit Captiva Island during a week long stay on the Florida Gulf Coast. We had a very nice three days at Inn on the Beach in Pass-A-Grille, so our impressions of this place are based on a comparison with the excellent time we had in Pass-A-Grille. Superficially, the two places have a lot in common. They both photograph well, have a nice kitchen and living/dining area. They are both located near the beach (Inn on the Beach is closer but the walk along the street in Captiva was very nice). It is in the details that the differences become apparent. At Inn on the Beach, the wonderful innkeeper (Sheila) seems to have invested a lot of her personal energy in making sure the place runs well, even down to the tiniest of things. Here the lamps do not all work, the smoke detector kept chirping (I left it at the office after the first young man working there replaced the battery to no avail ... the second young man was also nice, but could not do anything with it until the next day), the dishes in the kitchen are a hodge podge, the curtains do not all provide good privacy (the cottages are all located around a small parking lot so privacy is an issue), etc. The bathroom was particularly interesting. The shower had lost its door and it was badly replaced by a curtain that did not want to stay in place. Also, the shower handle was replaced by a threaded eye bolt, which worked fine, but shows a lack of standards. Without someone like Sheila with a passion for providing a quality experience, I don't see how the place can achieve its real potential. The area is very nice, so my wife and I can see why so many families choose it for their vacation. The Captiva Island Inn is OK (I would have given it 2.5 stars if that was an option), but could be a lot better. Maybe the owners are trying to run too many businesses at once or need to find just the right person to handle their inn. read more

The Captiva Inn has a great location. Isn't location everything? If you walk down the lane for a few minutes you will be on the beautiful Captiva Island beach right by the Mucky Duck. We booked a bedroom only for one night and when we arrived mid week we were given a cottage with a living room and full kitchen. The pool was just around the corner from us. It had a spa, lounging chairs and a gazebo with a table. Our cottage- The Orchid- had two air conditioning units in the windows. One was in the living area and did a nice job of keeping it cool. The other was in the bedroom. It was very noisy and I don't think either could keep the humidity out effectively but it was comfortable. The kitchen had a microwave and a mix match of glasses, silverware and dishes. But we were not cooking. There was also an assortment of pots and pans. I don't think it would be an efficient kitchen to do any major cooking besides a simple breakfast or lunch. I did not use the coffee machine as it was disgusting. You can go to Keylime Bistro and get ice for your drinks. It has a nice sofa and chair and a cute little glass table for four. It was brightly painted blue and shades of green to simulate the water as it had trim that looked like little waves. The bathroom was a tangerine color and it had a pedestial sink. The bedroom had another sofa and a chest with two night stands. The furnishings were fine. We were very comfortable there. There are two locks on the door with separate keys. Parking is right by the cottage. You can also use their beach umbrellas and chairs at no charge and you can rent bicycles to ride around the island. That is the way to see the island. Breakfast at your choice of two restaurants right outside your door is included in the price. We were off season so the price was very inexpensive for what we got. We enjoyed our stay at the Inn. It is not a fancy place if that is what you are looking for. But we love to stay at these lovely little beach type cottages when we travel because of their history and charm. Sure they need some work inside and out as others have said but we will be back....for the beach and the beautiful sunset that was free! read more

If you're only looking for location and don't mind paying for it - it's pretty good. But we were very disappointed with the Jasmine cottage. Other rooms may be better but this cottage didn't have anywhere to hang clothes except for one single hook on the back of the shower door. It also didn't have a table on either side of the bed - and no room for one, either. The property could use some cleaning (inside and out). For the high price we'd never go back. read more

We stayed at a different cottage type establishment many years earlier that we loved but couldn't remember the name so being an older wood frame Florida type cottage was exactly what we were looking for to celebrate our 48th anniversary. We were given the "love shack", a very small room that had a double bed, open shelf unit, and small refrigerator. There was no place to put clothing or to set the suitcase on other than the bed. . The walls had knockdown that looked like someone took a handful of mud and threw it in various places and then painted royal blue before removing old an very large picture hooks. The electrical box looked like it was from the 40's and the smoke alarm in the ceiling was disconnected. It wasn't cool enough for us when we arrived and the window AC thermostat dial wouldn't adjust. The bathroom was up a couple of stairs and we didn't stay long enough to learn much about the bathroom, plumbing, etc. We ended up leaving within a half hour of arriving knowing that we were going to lose at least one night payment that was prepaid and we had no place to stay. We could have tolerated the above short-comings however the main reason we left was due to a gap under the door that was large enough for rodents to enter and, being a Florida resident, knew that the large flying Palmetto bugs that love the palm trees and Florida foliage that surrounded the cottage, find ways of getting into the smallest openings and we knew we wouldn't be able to sleep thinking of the invitation the gap under the door offered them when they come out after dark. On the positive side.....they are located about a block away from the beaches and there was a nice new fan just over the bed. read more

We have stayed here twice and are booking again. It is old Florida charm. These are old cottages that are super cute and clean but don't expect new Westin rooms. This is Captiva people. The location is perfect right in the center of.town next to the General Store, 4 restaurants, ice cream and walking distance to the beach. And full breakfast is included at.your choice of 2 restaurants. The town shuts down at 10pm so is so peaceful. read more

We booked the Orchid cottage for a last minute getaway for 2 without paying much attention to what we were booking. The location is OK. It's a easy walk to the beach & restaurants. If a view is important to you this is not the place for you. It's in an alley. The cottage has 1 queen bed, a day bed w/trundle and possibly 2 sleeper sofas (we didn't try to open them). The cottage has a full kitchen which we didn't use. Other than the bathroom & 1 bedroom the rest is one open area, so there is no privacy. There are openings at the ceiling into the bedroom that have blankets and pillows in front of them on a shelf in the bedroom, so even the bedroom isn't totally private ( private to sight, not sound). None of that mattered to us, but it's something to consider if you have a larger group. The A/C is just 2 window units which kept it plenty cool enough, but didn't dehumidify. Combined with the fact that there is nowhere to hang wet swim suits and towels meant the wet stuff never dried. There also was no mat at the door, inside or out, so it's impossible to keep from tracking sand in. It was adequately clean. In fact the smell of bleach was pretty strong. The whole cottage has ceramic tile floors. The grout needs a good cleaning. Breakfast at the Key Lime Bistro right next door was included. That's a plus. If I were planning another getaway for a larger group & all that mattered was a decent place near the beach I might consider it again. read more

I wish I had know about Yelp, because I would have know that Captiva Inn, isn't at all the way the pictures show. The wood work was rotting, there was a thick layer of dust and dirt on the window air conditioner, and we saw a few bugs. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned after the last guests had left. The table wasn't even wiped off. We walked in and back out. They were very nice about giving our money back. Luckily we were able to get a room at Tween Water Inn and loved it. read more

Stayed in the Jamine room 1 night. The place needs a lot of TLC. Stains on couch. Old furnishings and decor that has not been updated in years. The boards on the porch where rotting and the ceiling had a hole in it. Not very clean. It is in a nice area and the breakfast was nice. Captiva Island Inn is truly a beach shack. Although it's in a great location, it has a lot of untapped potential. The room we stayed in was run-down and dirty, not exactly "shabby chic." A little TLC would go a long way here - i.e., a coat of paint, twinkle lights on the enclosed private back patio, a screen door, and a new shower curtain (the one we had had an inch of mold along the bottom). We had a good time, but would've been more comfortable in a cleaner environment. read more

Great location- walking distance to the beach. Excellent breakfast provided at nearby restaurants. However, this place is old and lacks housekeeping and good customer service. Beds were not made and glasses upon arrival smelled like wine (had not been washed since previous guests). Music from nearby restaurant could be heard until midnight on the weekend (too much base).
