I was visiting my hometown and was in need of a haircut. I had been to Captiva over 5 years ago and was please so I decided to see if they had an opening and they were able to get me in that afternoon. First- the atmosphere is inviting and I was greeted immediately. I only waited a few minutes before The stylist Nicole called me back. She was very professional and sat me down and we talked about what I was looking for. She then escorted me to the room where they shampoo the hair. It was very relaxing and she gave me a scalp massage. I was very pleased with the haircut and her attention to detail. She suggested a hair protectant for my hair and styled it nicely. I was very satisfied with my visit and would recommend this salon and Nicole to anyone looking to try a new salon. read more

This was my second time visiting Captiva Salon and boy was it a change from my horrific first experience. The first time around (back in September) the stylist was one hour late for the appt and was of course unable to complete my haircut as the salon was soon closing! He had totally butchered my hair and neither him nor Gary seemed to care! The only reason why I came back was because someone had told me that previous stylist had left and that Kelly was a fantastic stylist so I went in last week for my first appt with her. She did a fantastic job at listening to what the client wants, I really liked the outcome! To guide you through the process they first consult with you then send you to the back changing room so you can put a smock on top of your shirt so it doesnt get wet or stained. They then ask you if you want a complimentary hand parrafin ( awesome!). You are then guided to the "Lather Lounge" that has waterfalls coming down the front walls. It is really soothing! Then once the paraffin is taken off you are guided back to the chair for another consultation and cut! I will def be going back! Especially as the price is fair for the service! read more

I went to this place after not one, but two of my coworkers showed up with great cuts. I've since found yet another person who swears by this place. I agree with the first review, it feels more like a Manhattan salon the one in the Whole Foods lot in Milford. Cut was great, my stylist listened to every request I made, and even sold me on extra treatment. I thought the price was fair enough (you pay for what you get, ambiance included). Good color and cut. Great atmosphere. Very pricey. I really like Captiva. I've been going here for several months and have gotten both cuts and coloring. The salon itself is very well maintained and constantly being cleaned which is nice. For your wash they bring you back to the "Lather Room" which is a nice space to relax in while your hair is washed. I've never seen anything like it before. Cuts are done in the back of the salon and color towards the front at the color bar. I really like the layout because even when they are super busy it never feels like congested. My stylist is awesome. She makes an effort to find out what I want and always checks in with me as she's styling. They place a big emphasis on training. There are different levels of stylists and you can pay more for a veteran. I recommend asking about it when you call otherwise they will put you with whoever is available at the time of the service. All of this does come at a price and the services can add up quickly so if you're on a tight budget definitely ask ahead of time or double check prices because it's occasionally been a surprise to get the final bill. They also do an monthly (might be bi-monthly) e-mail with promotions. Oh and the Wallingford and Milford salons don't have an integrated system for scheduling so make sure to know which one you're going to. They won't be able to coordinate with each other. Also, they don't take discover and won't put tips on cards. They let you put a tip on the card the first time you come in but discourage it in the future. Overall - I really like the salon. Bc i was stuck at traffic i was late to my app. I called and let them know i was gonna be late for 15 mins and when i arrived they told me they can't have me at that time bc i was little late. I find this very rude. I had to drive for 45 mins to get there and they wanted to reschedule when i arrived. I dont think this is how they should manage the appointments. I LOVE this salon and my hairdresser, Stephanie Ryan! They are expensive but it's really like a spa experience and this place is absolutely gorgeous! Haircut pricing includes wash, dry and style, paraffin hand treatment and 5 minute scalp massage. Their shampoo room is a "quiet room", no guests or staff talks inside a closed area, very dark with light musical accompaniment and water falling all around you down the glass walls. An experience I cannot forget! They also have separate coloring, haircut and waxing rooms. I've come to Stephanie three times and love her! She us professional, fun and very passionate about her trade. I always leave with an awesome cut and style that my family and friends all rave about! I came here for a balayage and the service was fantastic. It was my first time here. It was a salon/spa experience. Nicole was professional and she did an amazing job on the balayage. My hair turned out great. At first I thought the color was a bit too light, but after seeing everything come together, it looks amazing! I highly recommend Nicole. A very clean place that has experience stylist and a ton of products for hair. There is also a water cascade wall in the hair washing room, which made the experience very relaxing. read more

This afternoon, I immediately went to the Captiva Salon Paul Mitchell after experiencing what was the worst haircut I have ever seen at another salon. I was extremely worried that my hair was unfixable, however, Emily did an unbelievable job fixing the damage that was done. They typically close the salon at five, but the gentleman at the front desk was so understanding and accommodating, they last minutely squeezed me. After how understanding and generous the staff was at Captiva, along with the phenomenal job they did to my hair, I will never go to another place to get my hair done ever again. They are without a doubt the most talented and most personable staff I have ever dealt with. If you are thinking of going to this salon, please do not think twice, you will be more than satisfied with the treatment you receive from the staff, along with the results of your new hair! read more

Went for the first time and will definitely be going back. Nichele was my colorist/stylist and she did a fantastic job - really spent time discussing what I was looking for, what have I done previously and then really explained what she was doing and why. I especially liked that during the styling portion - I hate when stylists just do their thing and don't explain to you what you need to do at home to get that same look (or at least a close approximation). One of the highlights was the "Lather Lounge" which is a separate area of the salon, encased in a wall of waterfalls and filled with zen music. You don't just get your hair washed - you get an awesome scalp massage and your hands are in a paraffin treatment. I could've stayed in there longer, but alas, we needed to move along to the haircut. So far, so good with the cut. I didn't want to much off the length, but needed something to take away the blahness, and that is precisely what I have. I get nervous when stylists say they are just going to "put in a few layers" because I hate layers (and they always end up short), but these are long layers and I still have my length. As I was a first time customer/first time color, I got a goody bag at the end of color-care products. Nichele told me which products she used and asked if there were any I wanted to purchase - while I did purchase one of the items, I didn't feel pressured into the purchase. I had such a great experience, that I even made a follow-up appointment, which I rarely do. It is a bit on the pricey side, and you don't really know how much it is going to cost until the end (thus the 4 stars), but it was worth it. Felt more like a Manhattan salon that a Milford salon. Would stay clear of this place if you are looking for a men's cut. The pre-beautyschool technique of using your fingers to measure length around a head is a quite concerning... how about you eyeball your work to make sure it's even and what the customer asked for... I took my teenage daughter here today for highlights. We just moved from Hawaii and we both were in need of a new hairstylist. This process to find a new stylist is often painful, but we hit the jackpot! Samantha gave Caroline the most beautiful, age-appropriate, natural blonde highlights that I could have imagined! AND, she couldn't not have been more hospitable and welcoming. She was a fantastic ambassador for the salon. My daughter and I were both grinning ear to ear as we left. I have an appointment tomorrow and cannot wait for Samantha to work her magic on me. I took my daughter for her junior prom hair design and makeup. The stylist did her hair nicely but it was nothing special. And the same lady did her makeup too, but she didn't let me see when she was doing my daughter's makeup. She told me I have to sit in the reception area otherwise the other customers will feel disturbed. However nobody else was there in the area. The stylist told me not to worry because she would consult with me while doing my daughter's makeup. But she didn't even call me over. When I went to see what was going on, I saw that she had already finished the makeup. I'm not at all satisfied with the way the makeup turned out. The stylist was nice, but she is not a professional makeup artist for sure. My daughter's foundation was way too dark, and the makeup was much heavier than she had wanted it to be. I have been really itching for a scalp massage and didn't know where to find one. So I did a Google search and captiva salon came up. The reviews here were really positive so I decided to book an appt. I called and got one for the same day. My stylist was Stephanie and she was just the nicest and sweetest person ever. She gave me a tour of the salon. The salon is in a plaza and is very spacious. There's wine in the evening for guests which I will definitely take advantage of the next time I'm there for another scalp treatment. Anyway, as you can tell, I absolutely had a fabulous time! Stephanie was very nice and very accommodating. I like the salon's atmosphere a lot. I'm scheduled for another massage next week with Stephanie so yeah I had a very good experience and very good first impression! My hair smelled wonderful. They only carry Paul Mitchell products. Another thing if anyone is wondering is that they don't push the products on you or so Stephanie didn't. Im actually interested in the ones she used on me. My hands felt soooo smooth after the initial scrub. Love love this place for the ambience and massage. Haven't gotten a cut here but im sure it's good considering the staff is so friendly. Had a wonderful experience here. I had a pretty drastic change of style and Rosie talked to me about what it might look like before hand and we figured out what was best for me. She was very easy going and friendly. The cut looks great, exactly what I'd hoped for. I was very nervous at first but when I called the salon to book my appointment, I explained my situation and the receptionist (whose name slips my mind) was extremely friendly and very reassuring that my stylist had plenty of experience and there would be nothing to worry about. I had Stephanie as my stylist and I LOVE her! She's been a hairdresser for years and understood exactly what I wanted and needed. My hair is very long and thick and she was able to find all my previous layers and trim everything up. It's spa like from the minute you walk into the back and change into a gown.
