Our pictures are still a work in progress (it's been less than a week since our wedding), but as…read morefar as the 'day of' Sandy and Tim hit it out of the park. First, they arrived wearing our wedding colors, which speaks to their attention to detail! Immediately I was at ease with them, and by the end of the evening it felt more like they were friends than hired photographers. I was sad to see them leave! We did many of the wedding party and family photos before the ceremony, which I highly recommend if you intend to enjoy your reception. As we were planning the pre-ceremony photo session my husband was concerned that the 'first look' photos would feel hooky - as it was Tim and Sandy put him at ease and it was a very special experience for him. Throughout the evening, Sandy was like a bridesmaid, best friend and outside observer rolled into one - she helped me with wardrobe tape when I was dressing, chased me around with bobby pins toward the end of the evening when my hair started to fall, and with Tim's help kept order in the sweetest way as we attempted to get through our shot list. By the end of the night we had photos will all our guests without feeling as if even a fraction of the night was spent posing for the camera. I am so excited to see our photos - Sandy and Tim were so creative (while still being down to earth) that I have no doubt we'll find at least a few to treasure always.

When I became engaged to my husband, there was no question who I would ask to be our wedding photographer - I had seen her phenomenal work throughout the years and wouldn't trust my big day with anyone else. Julie did not disappoint. She even flew out to Washington DC to take our engagement pictures (on a weekend it reached 90+ degrees nonetheless) and captured some amazing shots. She really has a sense of the best angles to take with each setting and directs you in a way that still looks completely natural in the pictures. The pictures from our wedding were even more fabulous. We did a photo shoot at my parents' house, an urban shoot in downtown Detroit and Belle Isle, and of course more at the ceremony/reception venue. We have fantastic shots from each of the photo shoots, and had a terribly hard time choosing which to put in an album out of all the pictures we had (it literally took us over a year to select all the pictures!). All around, Julie's photos are gorgeous - I'm so glad we didn't look anywhere else for a wedding photographer! Not only are the pictures great, but she is wonderful to work with; very easy going, flexible, but also has some great suggestions based on her experience. She also does great portraits - we did a photo shoot of our dog (yes, we are THOSE kind of people) and I can't tell you how cute our baby looks (and I also can't tell you how Julie worked her magic and got her to stay still - every picture we have taken of her ourselves is a blurry mess!). They had warned us ahead of time that some of the things they asked us to do would seem weird, but would look cool after the fact, and they were right. Honestly, I had a really good time just chatting and hanging out with them in between shoots and whatnot, which is just an added bonus on top of the amazing job they did. Julie also took some photos of our dog. I wasn't so sure how well that would go: she's a fidgety little thing and unless she's sleeping, I've never got a photo of her that wasn't blurry. The good: Holly is excellent on the day of wedding. She is…read morecalm, cheery, creative, directive, and an excellent communicator. One thing that I appreciated hearing from her is that anytime I needed a break, I could let her know. That gave me a lot of ease and I felt comfortable telling her when I needed a break or when things were too much. She's very intuitive in that way. She let the bridal party take breaks and she checked in with me when needed about what was next. She worked well with other vendors. Her close up photography is outstanding with details...ties, jewelry, vows, you name it. Outstanding and incredible. Overall, communication was decent leading up to the wedding. She reliably responded to emails within 24 hrs business day which I appreciated because many of my vendors weren't that way. The not so good: Holly uses a clunky program to communicate via email with her clients. Even though she reliably responded within 24 hours, searching our emails with her and viewing things like our invoice and our contract was a pain. You have to create usernames and passwords, and reading previous emails with her were a mess to search and read. Her program isn't user/client friendly. I am totally 100% for businesses to document things in writing so I get why she uses the program, but it's just a poor program. The best case in point about this is that the program automatically generated an email to my fiance and I about a due final payment to be paid online. At first we thought this was helpful so we faithfully paid the remaining balance online. But then we got a panicked email from Holly saying our contract says we needed to pay cash or check and that there are huge service fees for paying credit card. It ended up being a huge pain for both us and Holly to figure out...we were irritated (as was she!) About the fact that we were asked to pay online by credit card. When I pay...I don't generally look back at the contract and read the fine print about whether to pay cash or check...not when I'm juggling multiple vendors and multiple contracts and payment due dates. The contract in it of itself is not easily accessible without having to dig In a myriad of emails to find the login for the website and then actually login. Finally, Holly's pricing covers up to 8 hours of photography. At the end of the day I kind of wish I went with a photographer that covered whole day photography instead. We had to pay an extra hefty sum to get Holly to stay and take pictures of our reception and our sparkler exit. The reception pictures we had to pay extra for were golden and so treasured because there were things that went on during our reception that we didn't even know but she captured wonderfully. The sparkler photos were kind of a disappointment and didn't look great (people were too spaced out, the framing of the photos were poor). The extra money we had to pay for Holly to stay a couple extra hours were worth it mostly for the dancing photos and group photos she took, but definitely not the sparkler photos...which kind of made me wonder if it would have been better for us to pay for a photographer that included whole day services. Overall we do recommend Holly as she is a great day of photographer. There are a couple things we wished were different but nothing absolutely groundbreaking. We received our photos about 1-2 months after our date and there were about 1,000 photos! Some of them were duds as expected but some will end up on the wall!

It doesn't take long to see the difference between an "amazing" photo album and a "fine" one. Plenty of people settle for "fine", but after you've seen "amazing" it's pretty hard to settle. Lars is incredible. Photography is an art and I was impressed with Lars from the beginning. It's clear he has a fantastic eye and has an innate ability. Flipping through his albums made it even more clear that he is quite skilled and makes people look GOOD. I look at other friends' wedding albums and try not to cringe at "here's the requisite bridal party shot". It's about so much more than simply grouping the right people together, it's getting them together in a way that's both classy and fun, so it doesn't look forced and posed. This is where Lars' skill really comes through. Throughout it all, Lars was good-natured and affable, very easy to talk to about what to capture at your event. You can tell he's not new to this rodeo as he has great ideas for everything from composition to angles to lighting. Yet, he manages to be unobtrusive throughout it all so you don't feel like a fashionista being pursued by the papparazzi. He's responsive and accommodating - Lars is a fantastic photographer and fun to work with - a total win-win.
