Needed some veggies and really missing Asian food traveling in Spain (there's only so much bread, meat, & patata bravas I can eat) Also mending an ill stomach, I was excited to find this restaurant close to La Sagrada Familia. Turns out the owner is Cantonese-Chinese (possibly by way of Vietnam?), he wasn't entirely talkative, but this explains is culinary attention to flavor and quality of ingredients (knowing Cantonese techniques - but this actually explains how the actual food is- more about that below). Most of his extremely nice waitstaff were Nepali. Everyone communicated very well in Spanish & English. They seemed to have a lot of regular customers, some even hugging the who I assumed was the General Manager. I was craving a refreshing cold noodle salad and crunchy vegetables, the €9.50 Bun Bo Xao sounded great. It had rice noodles, lettuce, cucumber, fresh mint, topped with fried onions & peanut. I ordered the beef version. A small Vegetable triangle Spring Roll was complimentary at the beginning of the meal. The bowl was generously filled with all the fresh ingredients. What's different than how I've had this dish in NYC and LA (& I assume dishes are tweaked for the Spanish palette and style here), was that the lemongrass beef was stir-fried with a light gravy sauce (and not grilled and dry/nom-sauce), and the noodles were warm and tossed in the sauce also. The noodles were Mei Fun (rice vermicelli) and not the round spaghetti-like noodles that's usually used for the dish. There's usually Nuoc Cham sauce that comes with this dish, which you pour the "Nuoc Cham dressing" over everything & toss. However, since the noodles were already covered in the gravy sauce from the beef (with a pool at the bottom), it wouldn't have made sense anyway. Overall I was super happy to have noodles and food that tasted good. I saw a lot of tables order the same sauteed Lemongrass beef as a side dish. So- HOW do I know that this more Chinese than Vietnamese? The gravy-like sauces for the meats (& not primarily grilled meats and seafood), No typical condiments and ingredients like Nuoc Cham, pickled carrots & daikon, Siracha, Hoisin Sauce, & garlic chili set out at the table to customize the Pho. And no typical Vietnamese noodles (sounds like the other reviews about the Pho). I wonder if they have Vietnamese coffee...they can do Flan! A good bridge for cultures. Overall they have to cater to a predominantly Spanish Clientele to survive - basically ALL of the tables were eating Fried Rice (which looked like fast-food style, and a dish I actually haven't seen much at Vietnamese Restaurants). The restaurant is decorated very beautifully- BUT all of the ceiling tile work, wooden bar carvings of dragons- are decorations for a Chinese Restaurant (speaking from family experience business!). Overall, it's 4 stars & a decent experience for me- being what it is. I would come lowering your expectations- it's more like Chinese-light leaning Vietnamese Food. The staff did say that the owner is very secretive about his Pho recipe (I really hope that it's not from a boullion & spice powder mix). Will have to try it the next time I visit I guess - BUT knowing that they don't give you a plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime wedge, possibly some jalepenos - then I probably won't like my Pho (light & safe) experience.. & I get it, How do you train customers to prepare a bowl of Pho at their tables, without high overhead costs? Too much of a learning & communication curve. But good luck to them, good to have options in that neighborhood & Barcelona in general. Ran into some of the workers on their 3hr break later and they kindly showed me to the Metro. I want to note the Spanish translation of cucumber is so interesting - "papaya green." read more

We were craving for Pho so we decided to go Vietnamese. Found this close to our hostel. We orders the Menu 3 which was good for 3 people. The foods came in one by one which is a nice touch. A wonderfully vegetarian (and vegan) friendly restaurant less than 10 minutes from La Sagrada de Familia. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the menu is expansive, with notes as to what can be made vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free. I ordered the vegetable fried rice and they were able to customize it to my liking (no eggs and no mushrooms). The food came out quickly and tasted exactly as I imagined it. I'm a fan! For non-Spanish speakers, the menu has English translations and the staffs speaks a proficient amount of English. For native Hindi speakers, a handful of the staff also speaks Hindi. read more

The Com Viet was pretty delicious. The dish was light for a rice dish. There wasn't much xia siu pork as it was cut up pretty small. That was probably the most disappointing from my dish (hence the 4 stars). The ambience in the restaurant was casual. Decor is really nice for a Vietnamese restaurant compare to what we have in the States. I would recommend this place to a friend. P.S. This place is not very authentic. I had the Thit Heo Kho (carmelized pork) it was not what I was expecting. They served the pork on the rice and the sauce was very very thick neither of which is common. Pho didnt come with a plate garnishes like you would be used to(bean sprouts, basil, cilantro) only lime. All the food was ok, environment was just eh. Overall just an alright experience. This is indeed the worst restaurant I've ever been to in Barcelona. When I sat down, I was immediately treated really poorly. When the food was served, the guy literally just drops it on the table as if I were a dog. Also the way he talks to us was rude. Guess what? That person was the owner himself! The food was overpriced with a not so great taste. We never had any issues with other Vietnamese restaurants in Spain, this one was indeed the worst. Wherever we go my husband always has to find a Vietnamese restaurant to get a bowl of pho, and I admit sometimes you just have to eat something else other than local food. This was a great find in Barcelona. The location was easyy to find a few blocks away from the la sagrada. The service was good our waiter was Filipino so my mom actually had a conversation with him. They have this combo menu which I ordered and I chose beef pho and a steam chicken with ginger and chives, my husband and sister got large size beef pho and pork Ben as an appetizer, my mom a combo of chicken pho and cuttle fish with ginger and veggies and my broinlaw had this chicken dish with curry sauce I think (sorry didn't get a taste I was so full) They also gave us a appetizer tapa for ordering and it was this triangle shape fried veggie spring roll, it was room temp but still tasty. So when my mom and I ordered the combo, we thought we'll have like a small bowl of soup then our entree. It turned out that the portion of the bowl was bigger than we thought, it looked like their small size portion of the soup. The broth had a good flavor, the veggies we're already in there but no bean sprouts, and the noodle was a bit thicker than what I'm use to but it hit the spot. Our waiter then came with my mom and I entree and it was also a good portion was able to share, it came with this combination fried rice with shrimp, bbq pork, and ham. The only thing we noticed was my broinlaw didn't get rice with his meal. Or maybe the rice was for 3 to share? regardless he doesn't eat beef or pork so he wasn't able to share the rice with us. His dish was saucy so his should have came with white rice. Even with the minor hiccups, its 5 star rating because everything was so good, and we were happy with the service. I honestly wish the quality of the food was enough to save my review of this place. But alas- that was also mediocre with zero vegetarian pho options (the broth is beef, do not let them tell you otherwise.) I made it abundantly clear throughout the ordering process that I was allergic to peanuts and they still brought me a sauce with peanuts in it, which I ate because it did not look like the traditional peanut sauce. I've had a rash for 48 hours now after being diligent in voicing my allergy, in perfect Spanish too. ON TOP OF THAT the waiter we had would touch me after EVERYTHING he said, make jokes about my allergy, and at one point tried to be funny and tap on my phone while I was typing. Definitely the best Vietnamese restaurant in Barcelona! And the most authentic one! Even the owner is from Vietnam. The restaurant is maybe a little bit expensive but not so much, and the interior is very nice, tasteful, classy and cool. The service is just perfect! And the food is... very delicious! They have some great sets convenient if you want to try more different options of the rich Vietnamese cusine. And also classics like Nem rán, Nem cun, Ph bò and many many others. Capitol Vietnam near the sagrada familia is a good restaurant if you want a good meal for a reasonable price. Staff is friendly and very efficient. Daily menu during weekdays is 9,50 and you will get a starter, main and dessert. Which is good value. The weekends the menu is different and the price is slightly higher. If you order anything outside of their menu the price climbs very steep and the quality value is a bit lost. I ordered the nuem con (fresh spring rolls) which were so delicious I could've eaten 3 more plates. The sauce packed a punch. I then had the papaya salad and soup pho which were also savory and delicious. These 3 dishes are pretty much the only Vietnamese food that I know and really enjoy and this restaurant does them really well. I would give 6 stars to this cozy Vietnamese restaurant if I could. The quality of the food is incredible and therefore, so is its taste. Vietnamese food is my latest big discovering and I am really happy to have found a place like this, where not only you can enjoy a good menu but also the service of an excellent staff. They are very kind and will be glad to help you solve any doubt. There are some plates you will hardly manage to eat without a waiter teaching you how to do it, but that is one of the most interesting parts of trying new things. All the dishes I've ordered since the first time I was here were very flavorful and pleasant, so be brave and go for the most exotic things you see on the menu. If you have never eaten this type of food, you can have portions of different plates so you can try more than one, that is the tasting menu which is not very expensive. However, if you prefer to go for whole portions I recommend the Nem, which are four fried spring rolls stuffed with vegetables and eaten with a mint leaf and lettuce dipped in a sweet sauce, and Pho Xao Ca Ri, the best curried rice noodles with coconut milk, vegetables and prawns. For dessert, the hot and cold fried ginger ice cream (yes, hot and cold) is one of the best options. They have also gluten free and vegan dishes (marked on the menu as GF and V) and warnings about the spicy level of each food. Surprisingly good, authentic Vietnamese food in Barcelona. When I got sick on vacation, I was hoping for some mediocre comfort food near our hotel. To my surprise, their spring rolls and pho broth was rich. Smaller portions than in the USA, and they put the herbs in the bowl for you. Dare I say, the pho was more similar to street vendors in Vietnam than pho in California. I tried to order in Vietnamese, but the waiters didn't speak Vietnamese. They spoke French and Spanish. Portion was decent but the broth was terrible. Bland and salty? I then sampled the vermicelli. The wrong order came out. Looking for beef not pork, the waitress insisted this is what I ordered. Clearly the lady was wrong, I tried to correct her and was hoping they would correct it. Instead she wanted to add another vermicelli and continue charging me for this vermicelli. i've LOVE vietnamese food and have eaten it all over the world. best in asia of course but california does a good job. was hoping to find the same in spain and this was close but i'll check out the others. the pho was pretty good but doesn't come with the usual sprouts, peppers etc and was basically noodles and meat with a few onions. the large was about the size of the small bowels i'm used to and the broth wasn't as rich as i'd hoped. the veg fried rice was good, especially with hot sauce added. fresh spring rolls also good but on the smaller size. the crepe was good but much different than any vietnamese crepe i've had before. all in all ok and i will go back but hope there is something a bit better in terms of taste and value. the setting was very nice though! read more
