Let me first say that I'm not a car guy and certainly not a car audio guy. I knew my speakers were blown and needed to be replaced and that's about it. I came here because of the other Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. These guys were extremely helpful, gave me multiple price points and told me exactly how each choice would sound, and basically made sure i got the best value I could. Wow, these guys did such a wonderful job. No bull. I had them rewire my entire car system with all new speakers and they did it in less than 1 hour!! Took my truck in to car audio outlaws and the Manager Ernie showed me a lot of love . The staff was very helpful and informative. Picked up some hertz amps for the bass/mids and tweets and I have to say the fellas "Beto n8er" and "Peeps" are mad scientist got it wired up tuned and perfectly dialed in zero issues they got down! Got two ultra 8 inch woofers in a down firing box under my back seat "Richard" made it look like it came factory!! Didn't change the angle of my seat and is barely noticeable until I turn it up. My dad went about 6 months ago to get a satellite radio put in his car, it just started messing up about a month ago, he took it back in because it has lifetime warranty on installment, they fixed the problem but they cracked his dashboard in 3 different places when taking it off, they didn't bother telling him what happened to try to get away without having to fix it. Thank goodness he noticed it right away he was just up the road he took it right back, he tried to tell my dad that it was already cracked but it wasn't. Well he paid for it, they just got it in like 2 days ago, my dad took it in today to finally get it put back on and the guy was talking shit the whole time to worker's where my dad can hear everything not professional at all I don't recommend them at all to anybody. If you have a problem they're going to get smart with you, and not be professional about things. The guy that was there was really big and tried to intimidate my dad cuz he's was bigger than him My dad is not health he's very sick and he's old and that's how they did him. read more

A day after security system installation, my car won't start. This may or may not be their fault, I don't know yet. But here's what I do know: 1) Their voice mailbox is full and can't take messages. 2) The form to contact them through their webpage spits out an error. 3) Directly sending an email to the listed contact fails as well, as it gets bounced back. So 3 different ways to contact them failed. I'm cast off into the breeze. I'll update if I get ahold of them, but for now I'm finding a ride to work again. Update: Here's a brief version of events. Got an alarm installed. Drove home. Next morning, car wouldn't start. Had car towed to a mechanic, who said it was an electrical problem, probably caused when they installed the alarm, and suggested I have it towed back to Audio Outlaws for them to fix it. I said okay. Tried to contact CAO and left this review. When I finally did get ahold of them, here's what they immediately said: "It's not our fault, and there's nothing we can do!" Yes, without looking at the car, without even having a good idea of what was wrong, they were already denying responsibility and saying they couldn't fix it. That's not a particularly good sign, eh? Not knowing what to do, I followed the advice of the mechanic anyway and had it towed back to Audio Outlaws. Of course they concluded it was nothing they had done. In the end, the issue was that one of the keys was not reprogrammed, so when I put it in the car and turned it, my car locked me out and had to be reset. Pretty simple issue, but neither the initial mechanic nor Car Audio Outlaws figured it out.-- they simply said it wasn't their fault. So I finally had it towed for the third time, to J and L automotive on the recommendation of my insurance company. J and L figured out the problem in a matter of minutes, and charged less than the cost of the tow-- they charged for the diagnostic time only, no charge for labor, since they said it was such an easy fix and could be done in the time allotted for the diagnostics. So the verdict: Car Audio Outlaws didn't cause the problem, but had lousy customer service. (They were great in person, good guys, comfortable lobby... just bad at dealing with concerns.) read more

I recently had a subpar experience with another local stereo shop on McHenry that I have used over the years. The guys at the other shop didn't even bother to walk out to my truck to listen to what I currently had. They quickly suggested that I buy an Alpine type X sub and an Alpine mono amp (1000 watts RMS), slapped the sub in a pre-fab box and sent me on my way after almost 3 hours. I was told the wait would be 1 hour and 15 mins tops. I was not happy with the sound at all. It was not much better than what I had before (Boston Acoustics G2 10 inch sub, Alpine mono amp), plus the new amp would shut off after 6 or 7 seven songs due to over heating. I felt like they didn't listen at all to what I had said I was looking for. I wanted hard hitting punchy bass, not deep boomy sloppy bass. They wouldn't let me return the equipment, but at least the owner swapped me out for a better amp at not additional cost. At this point, I decided to try Car Audio Outlaws. My neighbor recommended them and told me to ask for Carl. Long story short: Carl sat in my truck and listened to what I had, then he listened to what I wanted, took time to offer me a few options, gave his opinion and said he would make sure I was happy. I had never had Phoenix Gold subs before, but decided to give them a try since that's what he recommended. They built me an awesome custom box under the back seat of my crew cab F-150 and put two PG 10 inch shallow mount subs. They sound awesome! Very punchy and hard hitting-exactly what I was looking for. I am very happy with the outcome and will be recommending Carl to anybody and everybody looking for stereo equipment. read more

I originally went into the the shop based on yelp recommendations. I was looking for an adapter so that I could listen to my iPhone in my car. They didn't have one that would work with my car but Carl was able to offer me a radio option that I thought would be okay. After five months there was a problem with the USB connector on the radio. Carl didn't hesitate to offer to replace it or upgraded it. In fact after Carl and I agreed to an upgrade it turned out that the radio was not available so Carl agreed to give me a better radio for the same price. Carl gave me a fair price, was easy to work with and they had the radio installed in short order. I am very pleased with the radio, the transaction and would recommend them to anyone. read more

It was near closing time, so I went to look at a place that was open a little later. I left there feeling confused by the "audio lingo" he was talking and decided to go to see Ernie in the am. He greeted me with a smile and listened to all the things this non technical girl wanted in a stereo/Bluetooth and then stated what he thought would meet those needs. (the same thing he had quoted the night before) He was kind, informative and didn't use a lot of terms I didn't understand. It was installed in an hour and then he spent time explaining how to use it, how to remove the face plate and even set my clock and radio stations. The level of customer service was above and beyond what I expected and price was almost $100.00 less than the place up the street. I will refer anyone and everyone I know to head down and see Ernie. I went in there last week and paid $150 for backup camera installation. That was cheaper than the shop down the street that quoted me $165 so I got it installed here. I bought the backup camera and monitor off of Amazon and unfortunately it didn't work. I still had to pay them for installing it which was a little frustrating at the time considering it didn't work but it wasn't their fault.. I think the man I was speaking to could see my frustration and assured me that they could install the new one when I exchange it. I should have the new one within a week so I plan on going back in there for them to swap out the camera. It was unfortunate I didn't have a working product, but they did a great thing by offering to swap it out for free if I bought a replacement. This place sucks. Came here to have my speakers rewired and have two 6x9 rear speakers dropped in. My goal was to walk out with 4 working speakers. Quoted me at 80 bucks, raised the rate to 115 (which was fine). Then when I came to pick it up the front left speaker wasn't working and they wanted to raise it another 30. Apparently they didn't check to make sure they got the job done before they called me. This speaker was working when I dropped it off. So they wanted me to pay an extra 30 dollars to fix their mistake. My car was here for about 5 hours and i spent 115 dollars to leave with one speaker not working. They also left wires exposed out of the top of the dash. read more

I love this place!!! I went in to buy bluetooth stereo and to get them installed. Needless to say I had a great experience. The first thing I noticed was how professional and friendly they were. From the time I stepped into the building, I was graciously greeted and assisted immediately. Being that I am woman I was apprehensive whether or not I was going to be taken advantage of. However, I was pleasantly surprised that wasn't the case here. I particularly loved the store manager Ernie. Ernie really took his time thoroughly explaining the numerous products to me. He carefully made sure I didn't feel overwhelmed and pressured to buy anything right away. He made me feel extremely comfortable. I also really enjoyed the installer Richard. Before I gave my car away, Ernie introduced Richard to me making sure I knew who was handling my car. They wanted me to feel assured my property was in great hands. I really enjoyed Richard. He was very friendly and professional as well. Richard did a Fantastic job!! He not only installed great lights on my car, but he was very gentle and showed great pride in his work, which showed. While I was waiting, I noticed how friendly and attentive they were with everyone. I could tell this place values of their customers.
