My latest occasion with this business, I had delivered both Yukon XL and new Dodge Charger to an agreed upon scope of work (removal & replacement of existing enclosure in Yukon to restore trunk space) and then install aftermarket subs, tweeters, Amps and DSP into the Charger. They sat on both vehicles for two weeks, stringing me along, and then when I started calling them for status updates the sales manager (Nick) claimed the job was "too much" for them (same job they had already agreed to down to the component). I have to say that I have a 2011 Nissan Altima. To put things in perspective, I bought the car 2012 with almost 40k mileage. I got a great deal on the vehicle. Fast forward to the summer of 2019; I gave 68k in miles, and I have to take my car in for repair. They give me a loaner, and it has a car play and a rearview camera. I had no idea that I needed both lol. I found out that you could get both aftermarket. I do not recall why I came here, but they were great. They were very knowledgeable, and I feel like they recommended all the right things. I ended up replacing my radio and my speakers. I am delighted with my install. I talked to Car Tunes about installing a new stereo in my Wrangler (an Alpine Apple CarPlay enabled stereo). They were able to order the one I wanted for me, give me a price, and quickly get me scheduled to come in for install. They gave me a call after I dropped it off to suggest some additional add ons, including one that would override the settings that prevent you from using certain features while driving - which I didn't know existed, so that was great. When I picked it up a few hours later, they sat down with me to show me how everything worked and where to find everything. I've had it for a few months now, and I absolutely love it and haven't had any issues. It's nice to be completely hands free with navigation, texting, phone calls, etc. If you're looking to be the same, I would definitely give Car Tunes a call because they were helpful and reasonable! read more

I came here to buy a remote start for my boyfriend for Christmas and had a great experience. The guy who helped me out was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I had actually purchased a few other remote starters over the past several years for other cars and had just as good of an experience. All the guy needed was the year, make, and model of the car. I paid for all of it up front, including labor, and all he had to do was call and schedule an appointment. He ended up getting it installed and was very happy. Their computer system had actually went down when they were trying to program it, but they got it back up and running and even got him back his car before the time they promised. Of course, he loved the remote start! I mean, who doesn't with these cold winter days? Also, they have a few other locations, and my boyfriend could have taken it to any location to get installed, but we just stuck with the berkley location. Overall we were very pleased with the service provided! They also offer window tinting and stereos. Also they do replace batteries in car remotes for only 5 bucks! A couple of years ago, I had an automatic starter installed in my car by Car Tunes. My starter worked great, but my interior light would not turn off. I took my car back to them and asked them to fix this obvious wiring problem caused by them. They did. The following week I attempted to use my cruise control and found that it mysteriously stopped working. Since I had used it a week and a half before I had the started installed and it was working just fine, I knew that Car Tunes had screwed up some wiring again. This time, when I took my car back to them they looked at it and said that nothing was wrong with the cruise control and took no responsibility for their poor work. Just count on having to pay someone else to fix screw ups done by Car Tunes. I would never use them again and have told as many people as I could about their poor work and service. read more

For those who live in the Royal Oak area - you have probably cruised Woodward all winter and noticed Car Tunes' "Remote Start Installed $79" sign. As the mornings got colder, driving by that sign everyday on the way to work finally led me to the decision that I needed a $79 remote starter! Little did I know "Remote Starters installed $79" appears to be a massive typo. When you show up and they tell you the cheapest starters they have start at $139.99... and "please ignore the sign." Avoid doing business with this Car Tunes at all costs. I lost the fob to my car while my alarm was activated so the car locked up. I had them deactivate the alarm to unlock my car. While they were deactivating the alarm they carelessly plucked my brake switch without consulting causing the gears to permanently lock up until I could buy a new switch. When I tried to explain to him the incompetence to the gentlemen handling the situating he did not even try to listen to me and got really defensive. Very untrustworthy and incompetent. read more

I've had work done at this particular Car Tunes location before and I thought they were fair and professional, which is the only reason I decided to ignore the more recent reviews. My bad kids. I was in the market to have a CD player installed and to have a few other components wired up. I just didn't feel like doing it myself and had previously gotten a fair deal from them on similar work with decent results and quick turnaround times. I made an appointment, dropped my car off and spoke with a technician about the install. He quoted me a price which was well above their previous quote but opted to have it done anyways. My bad again. I was told three hours would be plenty of time which made sense to me - I figured it would've taken me that long to do it myself. I went and killed some time and after three hours hadn't heard from the technician and decided to call to check the status. After three hours, they told me it was going to be another hour at least and possibly two. I returned after the fourth hour to finish waiting. Eventually they pulled my car out and it sat in the lot for a long while until one of the techs came in and mentioned (quietly) that the new technician "forgot" something. I waited another half an hour and finally got my keys, paid and bailed out of there. Five hours for car stereo install and lamp wire? It only took the guys who stole my stereo five minutes and that was in the dark. Not to mention the install chatters when I drive due to a loose fitting mount kit. As far as the $79 "install included" price - what they don't tell you is that you're still going to pay for the wire harness and the mount kit and they inflate the cost on each of those to make back their money. My dear hubby bought me a remote start for christmas here, and I just had it installed today. My hubby did say that the price on the sign was misleading, as the other reviewers said (advertised for $99 but actually cost $199). I made the appointment to have it installed, and unfortunately the appointment was three weeks out (lame). But I dropped the car off early today and they actually had the car done 2 hours earlier than quoted. That was pretty cool. Highly recommend them. Will be coming back here for sure. My remote starter from the dealer stopped working about a year and a half ago. I've had it into the dealer a few times and they always tell me that they don't have time, but it most likely needs to be reprogrammed. I called countless other places and no one wanted to look at our because they hadn't installed it. These guys were awesome! Told me it wouldn't be a problem. That it did sound like it just needed to be reprogrammed and to bring it in and quoted me $35. Also gave me a price of a new starter if I needed to replace it. When I showed up on my next day off we had just had a large snow storm. And I heard the employee explain to a few people ahead of me how there had been a big rush on remote starters because of the storm and they were backed up and booking 6+ weeks out. When it was my turn I was not optimistic... I explained that I had spoke to someone over the phone and was told to bring it in and that I would have made an appointment then if I had known. The gentleman actually remember speaking to me and apologized profusely and explained that they had in fact been slow when I called. He scoured the schedule for a few minutes and asked when I would be able to come back. He got me in in under a week. He explained that they were actually taking me in as the shop was opening. And asked me to come in a few minutes early. He was also able to explain why I was having the problem with it that I was. I showed up early on my appointment date. They had me in and out under 20 minutes. They changed me the quoted price. And had printed out a copy of the reprogramming instructions for me in case it happened again. My standard factory CD/radio was a POS in my truck, so as a holiday present to myself, I thought I'd get myself a new setup and let's face it; there aren't a lot of options for you to select from around here so Car Tunes it was. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews here but I ignored that and frankly, I'm glad I did. I already knew what I wanted after looking at the sale items on their site and I got there about 11:00 a.m. on the weekend before Christmas. First star: the guy doesn't try to up sell me or talk me into more BS I don't need. Aggressive, asshole salespeople are a personal pet peeve of mine. The price I paid is exactly what was advertised plus parts. Be aware people, you may have to get adapter kits and such for your dash if you're replacing a factory setup. Second and Third stars: I pay for it and they tell me it can be installed TODAY. um, what? I thought I'd have to dick around, make an app't., come back...no, it will be installed today. On the weekend before Christmas? YAY! Fourth star: I pick it up, and it works great, sounds great, and I can happily listen to my music. Fifth star: to balance out some of the shitty reviews on here because I have had radios installed at "other popular stereo installation centers"™ and my experience was far worse; i.e. having to deal with aggressive salespeople, chaotic atmosphere at the desk, etc.. To be fair, the only real negative is they said it would be ready at 2 and they called me at 4:30 but I kind of expected that (frankly, hardly anything from anywhere is ready when they say it's gonna be) and it wasn't an issue for me as I wasn't waiting there. YMMV if you don't drop it off and have to wait. read more

Car tunes is always ridiculously overpriced. I've had work done by them before and even then i was disappointed. I recently went in, with a bunch of equipment, just for a quote. The guy came out, looked at my stuff for 5 seconds and started to walk away talking. Very unprofessional. I assumed he wanted me to follow, so I went back in and he was typing in the costs (I guess, he didn't intially tell me) He quoted me a price close to what I paid for all of the sound equipment! I walked out telling him I could find a better price elsewhere, which wasn't that hard, Mickey Shorr is right down the road. Mickey Shorr is much more professional and their price was more than half of what Car Tunes quoted. Take my advice: Go to Mickey Shorr! read more

Hubby got me a remote starter from here when I had twins last year. They installed it quickly & explained it to me. Then when I had something fixed on my car at the dealership, they reset the computers & the remote started didn't work. The guys @ Car tunes fixed in on the spot without an appointment. Then, just a few weeks ago, it stopped working altogether. The service rep told me it was likely the batteries in the remote. He replaced them with ones that should have a longer life, and told me that they generally last a year with regular use. I found them to be helpful and easily accessible, as far as appointments go. The accessibility of the parking lot, however, is another matter. Be careful pulling in & out, it's a little bit crazy. read more

They showed me the different types available and got me in that morning - granted I had to drive to their pontiac location but I didn't have an appointment so 20 minute drive was no big deal. Once I got to the other location, they had me in and out in 45 minutes. Tint looks great, price was competitive. People were super helpful. I purchased a remote starter Nov 2012 and it is the worst one I have ever had. I was referred to this Car Tunes by my Honda Dealer Salesman. They were highly recommended. I felt the service was awful and remote starter is junk. I went back to show them how lousy it was working and they acted like it was fine. Do not go to this store. I also shopped around a bit and they gave me a great, competitive rate. I was really impressed with the service and how the radio turned out. Be very careful if you are a woman as they give a lot of hype that they stand behind their installations. They do not. Bought a remote starter there and the installation of the wiring was poorly done and it damaged my ignition wiring.
