made an appointment with James at 3PM Friday for 8AM on Saturday. At around 8PM Shawn texts me telling me that slot is taken and they are available for 9AM. I tell them i cant do it because i have plans and they basically say tough s***. No discount or anything. Too late to get it anywhere else and now I need to plug the hole in my tire. We were headed out of town for a mini family getaway and after just a few minutes into our drive we realized we had a good sized nail in our tire. We called Car-X Tire & Auto. The manager was willing to take a look at it to see if it could be repaired. We drove up and the store manager was able to get the nail removed, tire patched, and tires pumped back up with air right in the driveway and get us back on our way! The store manager was friendly, genuine, and worked so quickly to help resolve our literal bump in the road . Our 7 year old wanted to watch and he even went out of the way to explain to him what he was doing as he was fixing the tire. When we went to pay the manager didn't even charge us for his speedy service. We will definitely be back! Would highly recommend this tire and auto store in McHenry! Don't go here. They broke my oil cap on the top of my car and CHARGED ME for it. Not sure who's running this place but definitely going to have to call corporate if this don't get resolved. If you break it why am I paying to fix it? They admitted fault and gave me a discount which was still $50 for the "discounted rate". Spare me. Take your car somewhere else! read more

The kindest people ever! I had a nail in my tire that was leaking air. I was in town and had to pick up my wheelchair bound mother from a restaurant. I pulled in and they fixed the flat on the spot right in their driveway. They didn't even want to charge me. I don't remember being treated that kindly by a business. Such great service. Called Saturday morning because the heat stopped working in my son's 03 Chevy Malibu. Spoke to Harley, who told me to bring it over and they would take a look at it. Called a few hours later explaining what was wrong with it and what can be done without spending a ton of money. Needed to order a part that would be in on Monday but was able to get the car back to us on Saturday with some heat. Didn't charge us until we can back today to have the part installed and saved us money by taking off the labor charge from Saturdays work. I received a coupon in the mail for Car-X Tire & Auto coincidently for what I needed to get done. The day I decided to go to this shop it ended up being closed so I went to a different location. When I went to the different location they were rude and did not accept the coupon and boy am I glad they didn't. From the minute I stepped into the Car-X Tire & Auto in McHenry I felt that I was in a warm and welcoming environment. The employees at this place (Phil, Kevin, & Harley) are SO nice. They really did whatever they could to satisfy the needs of my vehicle in the most informative and honest way possible. my babysitter went there and had two rear tires placed on her car and they told her that the improper tire wear was caused from the shocks in the rear. But in order to properly determine that it is the shocks causing the improper tire wear an alignment must be performed which they did not do because their machine is broken. Who has a $50k dollar alignment machine just sitting in their shop broken?!? They also didn't recommend putting the new tires on the front of the front wheel drive car for better drivability especially since winter is coming up, probably because they want the front tires to wear out quicker so the sell her more tires. Recommend staying away from this place cause they will try to sell you stuff that you do not need and just throw parts at your car hoping that it fixes your problem. Called the shop and talk to somebody, they said "I've been doing this for 16 years and know what causes problems on cars." which is a bunch of crap because in order to properly determine issues you need to properly diagnose these things. You don't get to use your "experience" to diagnose cars without properly doing so. Then the guy I talked to tried to retract what he said when he actually spoke to an ASE certified technician who knows a thing or two about cars. It's going to come back and bite this place one day. My girlfriend made an appointment over the phone to get her oil changed before work at 7:30. Whoever she talked to must not work there because they don't even open until 8. Then when someone showed up to open they told her they couldn't even change her oil because they were too busy (she was the only one there). Place is a joke. Go anywhere else since these guys couldn't care less if you go there or not. read more

So when I moved out to McHenry I was worried about where to get my car fixed. I normally went to my dealer to get stuff done but it was an all day event to get there. It started when I had a battery issue I called car x spoke with Harley and he said not probably bring it on. They fixed it right away and then my other car not a few weeks later same issue again called car x and they took great care of it. Let me tell you I will not take my car ( unless I have to) to another place. You walk in and talk to the staff and they always want to help. Prices are just right and no mater what they work with you. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I have never been to a car repair shop that cares so much about the people. Great job guys you have a lifetime customer coming to your place! My parents are moving in the area and they will be going there too. read more

Worst experience i've ever had to deal with they were paid to replace a starter on my ford escort ZX2. Three hours later I get a call from the manager saying I need to pick up the vehicle after hours I question them as to why he said there was a problem and there's going to be no charge.When I went to the vehicle and tried to start it a loud pitch screaming noise came from the engine, I realized upon further inspection that they crack the fly wheel by putting in the wrong starter and told me to remove the car off of their properly I will never use another car x for the rest of my life. read more

Just had some brake line work done here, it is the second time ive taken it in to be worked on at this location, and the service was excellent!!! The management, and staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, and provided great transparency when explaining and showing me the work that was being done. In addition, they were very fair regarding pricing, and notifying me of current promotions/coupons that were available and applied them to the bill. They are only getting 1 star because it is required that you gave at least one. Sent my husband with my car. Coupon is no good because it doesn't cover synthetic oil. Ok understand. Then charges 16.00 LABOR for the oil change. REALLY!! All others have it included in price. That synthetic oil must be really heavy. Shame on them. Never again and we have 4 vehicles they could have gotten for our business. Owner is not very nice or accommodating. read more
