I live downtown but willingly drive an hour and a half or more just to get my car serviced at B & B because I know it will be done right the first time and at a fair price. Took my son 2012 Jeep Wrangler to the shop due to engine light and sway bar replacement. Explained I we did not live close but understood that the owner has great knowledge about Jeeps and would be able to make necessary repairs. Well after 4k in repairs and 4 trips back from City to the shop the issue is still existing. I called several times and the last response was that it needs an engine or timing change replacement. If that was the case why wouldn't you have found this 2 visits ago. It was very disappointing and I've really lost faith in repair shops. Will not recommend especially if you don't live in McHenry, IL not worth the trip. read more

I was there in Mid January 2025 to have 6 sparkplugs and an ignition coil replaced. I knew this was the issue but they said they had to diagnose the issue. I was first told $300-400 by the weekday female in the shop BUT when Saturday (the day I dropped off my vehicle) rolled around I was told $609, which is astronomical! Phil did take the time to review the suggested pricing and lowered it $408. I was shocked at the initial pricing to be honest. In the end I think the price I paid was still a bit high. They spent maybe 90 minutes on my vehicle and also made sure the issue I told them it was, was in fact the issue....and it was. Not at all happy I was charged $95 to be informed that the problem with the vehicle was in fact the exact thing I said it was when I brought in the vehicle. Suffice to say, be sure to know what you should be paying because if I didn't, I would have paid $200 more than I should have. I have been bringing my cars here for repairs for several years now BUT after this it is hard to see how I can trust this shop. Takes years to build trust and one episode such as this to end that trust. After a bit of time to think about it, I have had this shop work on both our cars and they had been pretty fair and did the repairs quickly, heck the owner even gave me a ride back home on two occasions AND I don't throw away a good relationship on one bad experience so we will give them another shot if and when we may need their services. read more

Not a fan and would suggest you stay away from this business. AC unit went out after just 3 years that they replaced. Response from representative of company was, yes they should last longer then that but warranty has expired and nothing they can do about it. Google search says AC units should last 10-15 years. Had them replace my Ac unit and bill was $772.39 of which was $458.70 for labor on a job that took less then 2 hours. Then the representative stated vehicle was due for an oil change and asked if I wanted to have that service done, I said no. Vehicle still had 2000 miles till oil change service required. They are there just for the money and not customer!!! STAY AWAY!!! read more

My car was overheating one day. I filled up the coolant and thought I was fine. I checked the coolant level the next day and it was low again. The next day the service engine light came on, so I knew I had to get it checked out. I took it to the dealership where I bought it from and left it there for them to diagnose. A couple days later I get a long list of repairs that need to be done, totaling nearly $3900. I check with another repair shop I've used and they quote me $3000. I check around online and on Yelp and see that B & B has had great reviews, so I take it there. Long story short, my car is fixed, for close to $2500 and I can say that Phil, the owner of B&B is a really nice guy. He communicated well throughout the process. Let me start out by telling you that I was an automotive mechanic for several years but I don't feel like working on my cars any more. I have taken my car into B&B for work on a few occasions and I have found them to be 100% honest, reputable and very caring about their clients. I was in for some work today and they found that a repair part that was replaced a year ago was defective. I've been using B&B for almost 3 years and when you're driving a first generation Dodge Durango, you tend to be a repeat customer. I've had several things done from suspension replacements, water pump, seized brakes, new muffler, new radiator, and engine heater installation. To sum up the experience, they use quality parts, and do quality work. I've never had to take the vehicle back for a part that was previously replaced. In the past they have occasionally forgotten to call me back, but I haven't had an issue with that in a long time so I would consider that resolved. The staff is friendly and straight forward. Tried them out yesterday and brought in my Mercedes C300. I asked if the cost on the Valvoline board of $59.99 was correct for a full Valvoline full synthetic oils change and was told "Yes". Then I asked when the car would be done and to please call me when ready. That was at 9:30 AM. At 3:PM I called to find out they had just got the old filter. At 4PM I picked up the car to find the cost escalated to over $99.00. When I asked who the difference she explained my car takes two extra quarts of oils and the filter needed to be ordered. "Why did you tell me $59.99 was the correct cost and why did no-one call me to say the cost changed?" That was met with..."Oh, sorry". Well, I'm sorry. Your are servicing the customer as well as the car. And it's only the most basic of service to give accurate pricing and information. OH...and the mileage sticker doesn't say Valvoline, but rather some independent oil blender. So, did I even get the Valvoline I thought I paid for? read more

I had just had my timing belt replaced and at the same time had the water replaced. This was done at another place in another state, 800 miles away. Driving back to get service done was not an option when the water pump went bad after only 3 months. Phil suggested taking it back to the other shop to live up to their warranty on the work. He could have taken it in and profitted from me without considering my needs. He discussed the options and when I said that there was no way to get it back to the other shop for repair as it was 800 miles away he agreed to work on it. Now let me say that I came to B& B on the recomendation of a friend whose opinion I trust. He said, "B&B is the place to go. I promise you they will fix it RIGHT, fast and not charge you an arm and leg. A previous place in Libertyville quoted me well over $650 to replace the pump. And they put me on a waiting list to get it fixed. At B&B I paid more than $100 less than what the other place quoted me AND despite more or less dropping in, out of the blue to drop off my car, it was back, and repaired within 24 hours.
