These are consummate professionals here at Advanced VTech. I seriously don't think there's anything they can't handle. They took what was the tired 13-year-old Fiat coupe with 69,000 miles on it. And they basically turned it into a new vehicle that has 2500 miles on the tires up restoration. Consumables were replaced, marginal items were replaced, new rubber and tuning the engine and the drivetrain. And because they did such a fantastic job it made sense for us to continue forward we had the interior redone and a European retrofitted screen that's actually built for the Fiat 500s. Wouldn't have done that if the work didn't turn out as good as it did. Just took it in the other week for an annual physical. One of the senior guys drove my car in to the facility and he said "she's got something knocking under there". (Nothing I ever heard but guess what? he hit it right on the head. And even that was under the warranty for the work that they had done. I would also add if it wasn't covered the price that was going to appear on the invoice was minuscule for parts and labor no arguments! The hell with comfort I'm driving it out to California to see my daughter this year! I believe the $$$ tab came just slightly over the Blue book value of the car. I couldn't be more thrilled. We talked about a lot of things here a lot of work that's been done on this car please if you have questions talk to them they'll welcome your inquiry and I don't want to mislead anyone. Scammed!!!!!! I came in with a flat tire this morning, not a lot of money. They ended up selling me a ball joint, which, when I had a second opinion later, I DID NOT NEED. I tried stopping them right when they pulled my car back so it could not be stopped. I know ball joints dont come out that fast! I also asked for the ball joint and arm that was never given to me, I may add. Life lesson learned. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!! read more

EDIT: After inspecting my car closer, my passenger side window is full of chips, like someone went at it in anger. Considering Dave screamed at me on the phone before I came and get the car, I have a very strong suspicion he may have vandalized my car. These chips were never there before, and I would have noticed them as they're pretty numerous and large. I don't have any proof, since I wasn't there while the car was sitting at the garage, but I wouldn't put it past someone who is so easily enraged that he screams at a customer on the phone Come here if you want to have your car sit for weeks, be lied to and screamed at. It seems like the biggest liability this place has is it's VP of operations, Dave. I took my car here to have some suspension and cooling issues addressed. Nearly a week passed and nobody had so much as even looked at the car. I call them on a friday and Ron (the co owner) tells me they will get to it saturday, or monday. I accept this and saturday comes and goes with no call. I go down there on monday to see if they are following through and it turns out they are closed. The last time I checked, the day before the 4th of July isn't a holiday. You think the owner of the business would have known that they were gonna be closed that day when he told me my car would be worked on monday. Either he has no idea what's going on with the business he runs, or he is lying to me so I don't go pick up the car and take it somewhere else. At this point, not only do I feel like they don't care about working on it, I am also feeling thoroughly lied to. I would understand not having a fully completed repair right away, but not even so much as looking at the car? The next day the shop is open after the holiday, I call them and Dave seems to know who's calling, but for some reason he thinks I'm a completely different car, which is laughable considering I went spoke to him in person twice at this point and we had talked in detail about my car. I tried telling him when I called friday, I was told the car would be looked at saturday or monday, and nobody told me they were closed monday except the sign on the door when I arrived. I cant even get the words out because Dave keeps on trying to interrupt me and say otherwise, as if that changes the fact I was told they'd get around to looking at it saturday or monday. I told him I was going to pick up the car because at this point it seems like they have no intention on working on it. Now, he is screaming at me over the phone to come get my car. Yes, screaming at me. Minutes later, I walk in to get my keys and I explain again that Ron told me the car would be looked at saturday or monday, and that it is dishonest to tell me they will look at the car on a day they're not even open. I can't even finish before Dave is screaming at me in front of the mechanic leaning on the desk. I keep on trying to say there wasn't even any indication other than the sign on the door they were closed monday, and Dave screams in my face that I am "FIRED AS A CUSTOMER" which is kind of a joke because they weren't even willing to find the time to diagnose my vehicle. What would I be paying them for as a customer if they don't care enough to do a single billable thing in regards to my car? He screams for me to get out of his shop, so I oblige and Dave FOLLOWS ME INTO THE PARKING LOT so he can continue screaming at me. After he was screaming at me, I do admit I cussed at him. I called him a liar and a d*uche and an embarrassment to the trade. Yes I did. These are all pretty natural reaction to being SCREAMED AT by someone who not only completely failed to do anything resembling a job but also lied to my face about what the garage had previously told me. This final escalation was the result of his behavior which started with screaming at me on the phone and ended with him screaming at me as he followed me into the parking lot I even had someone with me follow me into the office so I could have a witness to what transpired. I wish I had recorded it on my phone so I could show Ron how Dave acts when people cross him. Additionally: Earlier in that week I had followed up in person regarding parts and information I wanted to give them, and both times Dave is either on the phone with non business matters (heard: I gotta go, I have a customer) or making small talk with some mechanic leaning on the desk. If they are so busy they cannot so much as look at the car, I am not sure why anyone is in the office at all. I would not be surprised if this garage is "sanitizing" their reviews by having negative ones removed. If you're reading this one, take heed and take your car elsewhere. read more

My wife's car broke down on the highway a few miles away from Advanced VTEC on a Saturday afternoon with a transmission issue on an Infiniti SUV. They were one of a few options nearby that I could have it towed to. After a quick check of online reviews I had it towed here and I'm very glad I did. Dave called me shortly after letting me know they received it and when they would be able to look. He was honest, a good communicator, and very responsive. He gave me the right amount of information (cost, likelihood of success) to make the right decision and I could tell he cared about doing right by his customers. Ultimately the least expensive solution worked and the car is back running great again. I would definitely use them again in the future. read more

Honest mechanics that would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get work done on the car.

I normally take my 2009 Toyota Rav4 to Midas to have normal maintenance performed. But recently after taking my car there for a check up they informed me that my Serpentine Belt needed replacing. After getting the quote for the work which was close to $1,000, I decided to hold off until I could find another mechanic to perform the work. So the next day, a Saturday I started searching. After looking at many reviews of potential mechanics, I happened upon Advanced V-Tech in Buffalo Grove, a short drive from my home in Libertyville. I called them up around 2-pm and Ron or Dave answered the phone. I can't remember which one it was but I told them my problem and within a few minutes they called me back to tell me that the cost would be under $700. I thought something must be askew until I realized that Midas was probably charging me a much higher labor fee. So I made an appointment to take the car in and even though Advanced V-Tech needed my car for two days I felt that was okay. Throughout the process Ron and Dave kept me informed of what they were doing. Eventually an Idler Pulley needed replacing upon their inspection. I also asked if I needed an oil change and they told me that I was overdue. After they were all finished, I had a new sepentine belt, a new belt tensioner, a new Idler Pulley, and an oil change for just under $900. Now if I had gone to Midas, and they found the same problem, my cost probably would have been closer to $1,200 or more. So I was extremely happy with the work that Ron and Dave's shop did for me. They are both very friendly and can answer any question related to your car. Their mechanic, Ed ( I think that was his name) was very helpful at explaining to me just exactly what he encountered and was very professional and kind. If anyone out there needs car repairs, this is the place to go. Very honest and more than that very helpful with diagnosing your car's problem. Thanks Ron and Dave!!!! read more

My daughter went for an oil change and they replaced tail light bulb without asking!!! Charged 57.50 for bulb replacement labor!!! Does not include cost of bulb, which was reasonable. Then claimed I need to change the synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. Thought that was conventional oil. Maybe the owner doesn't know the difference update: my daughter was contacted by this place and was told she will receive refund for unauthorized work. I'm updating from 1 to 3 stars. read more

UPDATE (3/7/2020): 1. I was most certainly there that day; 10 min later than expected. Unless the signs and address on the building were changed, I was at the right place. (Google maps w/ building photos confirm location & layout.) 2. A business has but one chance to make a good first impression, they failed. (Even assuming they were discussing a "complicated" issue with a customer, which was not the case based on what I heard). 3. I may be wrong regarding vending machines in adjacent room, maybe large cabinets, etc. 4. I would ask the owner(s) to please move on, things like this occur and are part of running a business. Luckily, the greater BG area has many other auto repair businesses that do care about customers and acknowledges them as soon as they enter the business. read more

Will not be back. $430 and three weeks of not knowing when it would be ready. They got it running and that's it. Condition of the bike was the same as it was before bringing it. Still operating only half potential. You can clearly hear that something is wrong with it and its not putting out the power it should. Was told the carbs were cleaned and valves adjusted. Brought it to my buddy's, who has been working on motorcycles a long time, house and he said one of the carbs wasn't even touched and showed me how dirty it was. He cleaned the crap out of it and messed with the jet kit system and now it runs and sounds great. Was also told i would have to replace the carbs next year, my buddy says they look like they are in great condition and he has no idea what they were talking about. I feel robbed out of this money. Will definitely not be back here and will strongly urge people to take their bikes to a dedicated motorcycle shop which this most certainly is not. read more

My biggest problem with Auto Mechanics is that I feel like they are always trying to pull something over on me. Not with Advanced Vehicle Tech. Ron and Dave were very open and honest. They let me see what they spent on the parts for my car, they let me watch the mechanic diagnose the problem, and were very up-front about the labor costs. I have never felt so secure in my purchase decision as I did with Advanced VTech. I don't know how much longer I'll have my 2010 Maxima, with almost 100,000 miles, but as long as I do, I am only bringing it here from now on! read more

Advanced VTech - Ron and Dave - were recommended to me by my Honda dealer after my ancient Honda Odyssey developed an exhaust problem that would require the replacement of the catalytic converter just for a small leak at the exit of the converter. Rather than spend thousands on that, they were able to fabricate a fix to the problem - their highly-skilled "car doctor" (technician doesn't seem to be the right description) did some creative cutting, grinding and welding, and bang zoom, I'm back in business at a cost that was just right. The result of the repair is actually though not what I'm basing my rating on - it was how they were to work with. First, they were just straight up honest. They said they were willing to try to fix the problem, but also explained where the effort could go wrong, cost more, etc. Once they got into the work they texted me pictures and a lengthy explanation of how they were going to approach the issue, how long it should take and what I should expect to pay. After I approved the work, then I asked if they could get it done sooner - and they did the work hours before I needed to have the car back. And the kicker? The total cost was a bit UNDER the estimated amount they told me. When does that ever happen? So, the wrap up? Highly skilled auto experts backed up by nice, honest business practices and really nice people managing the place and doing the work. Doesn't get any better than that. read more

We owned an 2003 Dodge, with over 120k miles on it. Each time we went to the dealership for service it cost us at least $800. We took it to Advanced Vtech, they told us what work really needed to be done and what did not need to be worked on. Our cost were reduced to less than $300. I have gone here a few times for simple oil changes and maintenance as well as for serious repair issues. I have always walked away extremely pleased both with the service as well as the quality of work. Every time I have gone, they complete the work I asked for in a timely and quality manner, and even have brought to my attention other issues that I needed to be aware of, but never forced or pushed me to do any thing unnecessary. They simply inform me of what they noticed, the risk it represents, and what my options could be. Sometimes I fix it, and sometimes, per their recommendation, I simply make a note and know I have to address it eventually. The first time I went to them was as a last resort. I had been to multiple mechanics trying to fix a reoccurring problem with my exhaust. Each time the issue would return, and so I would go to another shop hoping they would do a better time. Eventually, I went here and they explained to me why the issue kept reoccurring. The other mechanics had cut corners, installing improper parts (sometimes even scrap parts from other vehicles), and did the repairs incorrectly, which ultimately fried one of my computer systems. These were the only guys who took the time to research the problem, explain to me exactly what was going on, and what I needed to do to fix the issue from ever happing again - and it hasn't. I have since referred them to a few of my friends, all of whom love their service and are now repeat customers. read more

The service here is amazing - high quality, fast, and reasonably priced. But most importantly, Ron and Dave are just good, honest people. That, unfortunately, is hard to find these days. What I love most about this place is that they care about their customers in a way that most businesses do not. For example, my car's alternator recently died while I was downtown. The tow truck wouldn't get my car to their shop until after business hours. When I told Ron this, he gave me his personal cell phone number and told me to call him when we were on our way. I did, and he left his house to come back to the shop to meet me and give me the keys to their loaner car so I could take my kids to daycare the next day. And then, when the tow truck driver tried to charge me more than what he initially quoted, Ron volunteered to credit me for the difference (!), simply because he was the one who recommended the towing company. You can't make this stuff up. This is the kind of customer service that earns lifetime customers. I honestly couldn't be happier with Ron, Dave and their team. They have earned my implicit trust and not only that - I have been recommending them every chance I get. They deserve it. read more

We were a bit hesitant to believe all the great reviews on Advanced Tech - but in our experience this Summer trusting them to fix our Honda CRV -we are SO happy that we would give it 10 stars if we could. We had a complicated engine issue with our Honda CRV that my husband did not even trust the Honda dealerships to do after reading the user experiences/reviews about the issue on the Honda blogs & the fact that we got price quotes all over the place from the 6 dealerships we went to)! Dave and Ron, the coowners are honest, friendly, and knowledgeable and they have an incredible team of mechanics there - quite a wonderful team of people! We went in and talked with Dave this July - who after consulting with one of his Master Mechanics (Gary) - understood the issue and put together a detailed, reasonable price quote. Seriously - this was a complicated issue but they were able to get it done for us within the week & it has been running absolutely perfectly again! Ron & Dave kept us posted on the progress of the fix. Gary - the master mechanic that worked on our car - is a miracle worker - seriously! The quote was the price we paid - no upcharging. Outright crooks! I called them yesterday to get an estimate on radiator replacement. The guy made up a story about the entire A/C system having to be dismantled to get to the radiator. And quoted $750. According to GM, the time to replace this radiator is 2.2 hours. With their labor rate of $90/hr - the labor for this should have been $198, plus $150 for the radiator, of course. I had the work done 10 minutes away for $265 (bought my own radiator for $115, plus $150 for labor) - 1/3 of the quote these people gave me. They are crooks, cheats and liars! Stay away!! read more

My headlights went out on the way to work this morning so I hopped on Yelp to see who in the are could repair the headlights. I found this place and the customer service that was provided to me by Ron and team was top notch. They inspected my vehicle, promptly replaced my headlight bulbs and had me out of there within 15 minutes. They are fast, friendly, inexpensive and HONEST.
