I thought Ineeded an oil change so I stopped in at the car x on Dundee in palatine i'm 80 years named Mike could have given me an oil change and charged me however he was so honest he told me I did not need an oil change. It had not been long enough and I had not driven enough miles. He could've told me anything I would've believed him. I know nothing about cars. I love the honesty. This isn't about the money, it's about doing what you say and respecting the customer. First off, I scheduled an appointment, only to be told when I arrived that they couldn't take me because their mechanic got sick. Okay, things happen, but why not notify the customer in advance? Why waste their time? No problem, I rescheduled. I was quoted $65 over the phone for an oil change + tire rotation, but after the service, I was charged 70. I was in a rush and didn't pay attention to the receipt until the next day. When I called back, I spoke to Mike, the same guy I dealt with at the shop. He was friendly in person but not friendly at all over the phone. I asked about the price difference, he brushed it off and pretended like he has no idea what I'm talking about and said maybe I talked to someone else when I got the quote. Still not sure, I called another location and they confirmed that with the coupon, it should've been 65. So no, I didn't mishear anything. Overall he acted like it was no big deal and I was just wrong. Also no apology, no accountability, just dismissive. He offered to give me a refund out of his "own pocket", like it was some kind of personal favor. That's not a favor, that's insulting. Oh and on top of that, while in the shop I asked if they did the tire rotation and he said yes. But I had markings on my rear tires and clearly saw they hadn't been touched. When I brought it up again, they admitted they didn't do it because the rear tires were wobbly. If that's true, fine, but why lie about it? Again, this isn't about the money, I don't care about 5 bucks. It's about being lied to and talked down to like I'm stupid. I don't tolerate that. I'll never go back. read more

Kevin was experienced. Knowledgeable, and accommodating. Brake job was priced appropriately for my area. Went back a few weeks later for an Oil Change, so glad I did! They saved me my engine most likely. My oil pan was rusted pretty badly and most likely would not have made it for another 3000 miles! We brought my wife's car here recently to get checked out. She has a 2015 Toyota. They checked it out and came up with an estimate of $3500. They recommended lots of things but when I went through the est. They had added a $500. Insurance to the parts they were using since they weren't real Toyota parts. I made them remove that along with new tires that they want to add on too. I made the mistake of OKing the est at about $2400. They did the work Plus an oil change. We noticed a couple days later that they NEVER checked the car after the work and the car was leaking oil all over our driveway and garage. I told them about this,,Brought the car back, and they told me that they had used a defected oil plug. I mentioned that this could have costed us a new engine, and the manager Kevin told me, Dont worry, the next oil change would be Free. We complained to the Schamburg offices and they sent out some guy to wash our garage floor BUT the oil stains are still there. CarX is a very reliable car shop I was referred to by my Aunt. It's always hard finding a good car shop and referrals are everything! I took my car here with a check engine light & a few other things I had been putting off finally needed to get fixed up. The main fella Angel was awesome, super friendly and informative, really knew his stuff. They gave me a loaner car while they got the work done and even applied an online coupon for me to get me the best deal. I double checked everything they told me with my car expert friend and he said it was all legit & completely checked out. This was great news after having a less than stellar experience at the last shop I dealt with (Honda dealership!). I was really happy with everything at CarX and so glad to have a new shop close to work that I can rely on to keep it real with me & keep costs down. Kevin is very helpful with scheduling & finding the best deals for us. Most recently, my husband asked for help with getting a bolt out that fell inside the engine, while changing the battery at home. Kevin & his team had to completely remove the under-plate in order to begin searching for the bolt. The bolt had fallen & wedged itself into a tight corner. Went to Car-X yesterday for a bad tire. They found a nail in a back tire. In addition, Kevin said I needed new front brakes, an oil change and back shocks & struts. I agreed to the tires (money is tight). I was charged over $400.00 for 2 tires!! I had no option to the quality of the tires.I should have called around. Mavis Tires across the street has the same tire for a lot less. Car-X doesn't publish pricing of their tires. Mavis does. I went back today to see if he would rebate me the difference. Kevin was very rude. I stayed away from them for a few years for the same reason....poor service, over priced. Mavis Tire replaced the back struts/shocks for a lot less, and was more thorough. Car-X lost my business twice. I won't go back. Poor service. Overpriced!!! read more

Discount tire gave me a coupon to get an alignment. It is refreshing to have a car repair that doesn't try to sell what I don't need. Louis the owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about my Kia. When I asked about using high mileage oil he told me that high mileage has additives are not good for my car. That an oil change is $25. He recommended synthetic oil which is the same price as the high mileage oil that the lube guys were selling me. Angel got me in and out in under 1 and half hours. They have work space and Wi-Fi so I was able to get some work done. Now I don't have to drive 10 miles to get my cars repaired. Alignment for under $100!!! read more

Incredible Service. Today my wife's car would not start after stopping for coffee across the street from this Car-X. Being stranded in 3 degree temps she noticed a the Car-X. When I arrived we walked across the street and was met by a very polite young man. He stated they do not have a tow truck to bring it over to the shop but can call one. He did state it was a shame to have to pay for one just to tow it across the street. He then got one of the mechanics to walk across the street with us and he was able to get it running and got it back to the shop. They both went out of their way to help. I needed to get back to work and the young man at the counter assured me he would take good car of both my wife and her car. A few hours later after diagnosing and repairing a faulty part, my wife called me and could not say enough about the entire staff that helped her, and how nice the owner Luis was to her. She said Luis was the nicest person she has ever had the pleasure to deal with in a service based business. It was like it use to be in the old days when customers were treated with respect. As she waited for the repairs to be completed she sat and watched Luis interact with other customers that came in and she could now see why he has the business he does. He truly cared about everyone. Once her car was finished she called me to tell me about her experience. Luis asked to talk to me and proceeded to tell me what was wrong and what was done. They also pointed out a few obvious other repairs like an out headlight and bad wipers which they took care of. I thanked him for taking such good care of my wife and her car, then my wife stated that even though we live in Lincoln Park, we will be bringing our cars to him for future work. Kevin who is apparently the manager at this store is an extremely rude guy. Doesnt know how to talk to customers, I had some back and forth at a different store (Wheeling) and Dave at the Wheeling location was super helpful, since they couldnt do my cars wheel alignment, he referred me to go to the Palatine location. As soon as I enter the store (Palatine) for my scheduled appt, Kevin had a weird attitude and made me feel unwanted, I asked him if he really wants to work on my car, if no, i will be glad to walk out and go somewhere else, he is like no i am just trying to make you things understand. Well, Mr Kevin, there is a way to talk to clients when someone is being respectful, I expect same treatment. Never going to this shop ever again. Avoid this store due to Kevins attitude. I did have to wait a couple hours there in queue for the job, but they were friendly and fixed the problem. They even threw in a free oil change which was unexpected. My mom and i stopped in here on the day my grandfather pasted away. My mom got a flat tire heading home. The lug nuts did not match and 2 needed to be stripped. Pete was the first person we saw when we walked in and when he told us it may take some time to see what the tire really needed. My mom got overwhelmed at the thought of another problem because her father just passed. Pete was patient and kind and took the car from our hands and said no worries give me an hour I'll take care of it. Top notch service! I definitely am skeptical of any mechanics shop, as my grandfather was my mechanic for years before his passing. There was a very loud noise coming from my car, and I was just uncertain about who to trust. I came for an oil change, and they assessed everything for me, and while the loud noise couldn't be addressed at that time, they gave me some stellar recommendations for service on my vehicle and pricing as well. I came back because the noise got louder. They assessed it again, and it turns out that my catalytic converter was loose. They quoted me a fair price and had me in and out within an hour. I needed new brakes. They installed all new rotors and brakes on all four tires. My breaks continued to screech. Long story short, I went here a total of five times without the issue ever being resolved. They kept changing the pads but the breaks kept screeching. They change the rotors a total of 2 times. The last time I took it in, they said they would put on performance pads. They didn't. They were all really friendly and nice - which is probably why I continued to go to them 5 times. Finally, I ended up taking it to the Car X near Rand & Arlington Heights. The guy there said the other Car X was putting on really cheap, metallic pads. He put on porcelain ones and I haven't had any problems since. My guess is that they either really don't know what they're doing or they wanted to keep me coming in so they would have something to do. read more
