Trust me when I say that the midwives and doctors at FHBC will make the experience much less uncomfortable than it might normally be. They're a very hippy-dippy establishment, so if that's not your thing, you may want to go elsewhere. They won't shove their ideas down your throat, but they do advocate childbirth in a birth center instead of hospital (duh...they are a birth center), breast feeding, and just about all other au-natural techniques there are. They really emphasize that their doors are open to anyone from any walk of life. They're warm and welcoming, and don't pass judgments. If you're not pregnant (I'm not) you can still use their services for your annual exam and, just recently, for primary care for the whole family (including men!). As far as annual exams go, they make sure the actual exam portion of the visit is very short. You won't be on that exam table for ages (thank god!). Instead of the drawn-out process I've experienced at other OBGYNs, they take a good 15 minutes before the exam to get to know you as a person (whoa! shocker!) and then about 2 minutes for the exam. Then they send you on your way! I highly recommend FHBC because every single staff member you interact with is friendly, and they really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. you can't ask for a better experience.

She exemplified patient care that night (I took a 7pm after-work appointment) and was just really fantastic all around. What's more, she called me a week later to check in on me and see how I was feeling. Young women in need of GYN care in DC - this place, in terms of customer service (as it were), is really as good as it gets. On a side note: in addition to waiting with me for an hour, the nurse midwife also was nice enough to call cab companies for me. Not ONE of FIVE companies picked up the phone. Not one. We were hold with one for over 20 minutes. F*ck me, DC needs better regulation on cab companies.

(When I asked for an explanation of what happened to the Arlington Women's Center, I received different answers from three different staff members.) I had no problem making an appointment, and the front office staff were great. However, the NP and physician who treated me were abrasive and rushed. One of them barked at me multiple times during my exam, then took a breath followed by a little lecture on giving her a "little grace" for being overworked and stressed (which I did). The other one was detached and seemed irritated. I should mention that all of this occurred as they treated me for an extremely painful medical condition, which I felt they glossed over (no suggestions on how to minimize the pain). I left thinking "never again." The CT technician was excellent, and so were the nurses at the VHC women's surgical center, where I had good results with the outpatient surgery. Shockingly, I have had several instances of a different patient's data being uploaded to my patient portal account. My earlier records were nowhere to be seen, I think due to the portal being switched to different vendors. Due to a cardiac history, I had an EKG just before the surgery. Later I showed it to my cardiologist , and he pointed out that it was the wrong EKG. It belonged to someone else. I've asked my PCP for a referral to a new gynecologist, and I'm willing to drive further in exchange for better care.

However, findings from years later would say otherwise. I have records to back this up. Not to disclose the medical details, but here is a peak: During a scheduled office visit two weeks after the 2nd surgery, I shared with the office staff (maybe a nurse) the specific questions & findings I need to ask her that day after they checked in. I was told Dr. Danilyants will see me shortly after they took my blood pressure + heart rate. Then, 15 minutes later, that same staff/nurse came to tell me Dr.Danilyants CAN'T see me today. No calls or anything from her or her office EVER SINCE. That says a lot, ain't it?

Im getting ready for my third endometriosis surgery & I wanted to be thorough & hear from multiple surgeons. I know this may be people's only option given it's in network & that's hard to find but if you can, do not go here. I was shocked at how many red flags there were during my consultation & what a HUGE difference there was between her & the other surgeon. The biggest red flag: not only didn't she ask me to get an MRI before my appt so she could know what's going on inside me but she's not even equipped to read an MRI disc in the office, which means she only goes based on the report from the radiologist. HUGE PROBLEM! At this stage in Endo diagnosis & research, you should always have an MRI first & your surgeon should read it themselves, know what they are looking at themselves & make a plan for your surgery. She flat out admitted she wasn't going to have a plan, she'd just stick a scope in me & see what's in there. Other red flags: she dismissed several of my symptoms, saying I should just see a GI doc because Endo doesnt cause diarrhea & asked if I went on a specific diet for IC. She said Id be fine after a week, could go back to my job as a personal trainer!! & that there weren't any restrictions after surgery. And doesn't believe pelvic floor PT is necessary even when getting a hysterectomy. She flat out said there's nothing she can do to prevent more scar tissue during surgery. She pushes Orlissa as an alternative, which is a terrible drug! She didn't read a single page of my two folders of medical records they asked for & didn't even bring them into the appt with her. She asked me to list my symptoms vs the other surgeon who asked me about 40 very specific questions to understand exactly what he needed to know about my disease. She didn't do an exam on me. She ignored my shoulder pain & shortness of breath & didn't follow up to discuss diaphragmatic endo. When I asked about robotics during surgery she says she was trained before they were a thing so she doesn't use them. She was smug & dismissive, unqualified & ill informed & I am horrified that anyone who can't afford out of pocket costs has this as their option as a specialist. I'd say I was floored at how badly this appt went but then again those of us with endo are freaking used to this. I just can't believe this is what we get from a so called specialist after dealing with it from every other doctor!
