Stopped in to pick up desserts to go. The desert case is so inviting and lovely to look at. We waited our turn in line to get closer and make our selection. It was hard to not buy everything. I can't speak on what a dining experience at Caramel is like but the service we received was friendly and welcoming. We were so impressed with the prices. We got two huge desserts for only 7 dollars and change. We were able to share each item purchased. The truffle and cake we got were huge. We split them and each portion was sizable. Caramel's newly expanded location is the elegant and decadent dessert bar we have been longing for on Park Ave for YEARS!! From the soothing colors painted on the walls, the fun shelf of cake samples, live music on occasion, artwork, and comfortable, stylish seating, this is the kind of place I could sit with my cake and cocktail for hours. The front area when you first walk in has window seating for 4-6, a refrigerated display showing off some of the desserts available (such as cake slices, macarons and single-serving tarts), and a bar area. As you move through, the space opens up to a large sitting room with table service. The back room can also be divided into two rooms and can be rented out for events. On our most recent visit we ordered special desserts and boozy hot cocoa drinks from the menu. The desserts were prepared fresh in the kitchen and served to us, and they were fancy and delicious! We had their "Winter Alaska" and "Lost in the Mo-Mint". --The "Winter Alaska" was the most special dessert I've had in a really long time - white chocolate, gluten-free flourless cake with cherry ice cream, topped with cherry orange curd and covered in toasted meringue - so big it was easily shared between 4 people. --The "Lost in the Mo-Mint" was in a parfait glass and included chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache, mint ice cream, smashed oreos and a giant toasted hand made marshmallow. Absolute decadence, and again, a huge portion meant for sharing. As for the hot cocoas, they were also rich and delicious, and we were able to choose what alcohol we wanted - we chose kahlua, which was maybe a touch too sweet paired with the desserts, but enjoyable nonetheless. The only negatives I'll add are that the entrance area can be congested, and on the night we were there (a cold, damp winter night) many people were waiting outside because the place was packed; the other thing is that when the bar is full, it's pretty loud inside, even in the back. This bakery is so nice! When you first walk in, it seems like it's small but it actually is a good size space as it extends toward two back rooms. The bakery shelf and bar are prominent when you walk in. It held a nice array of cakes, cannolis, eclairs, filled croissants, French macaroons, Truffle Cake cups, Homemade pop tarts and, the biggest cinnamon danish I have ever seen. My niece had the Red Velvet cake chocolate truffle in a cup and I had the caramel bourbon cake. We sat in the large open floor plan seating area with our chai latte and fresh coffee. Awesome little Park Ave spot for post Amerks game or to end a date night with my lovely wife. We have visited several times and love the urban coffee shop vibe and the friendly staff. The deserts are a little hit and miss (10% miss cuz their carrot cake was mid) and, if you get there late, some items may be gone. I can say that the homemade pop tarts are a cool offering and very tasty. Our granddaughter loves the macarons. Nice to have both coffee and alcoholic beverage options as well. That has been taken down now. We stopped in after dinner at another restaurant and got a few things to try. Generous serving sizes. I got the napolean pastry because I love pastry puff type desserts. It was light but the pastry wasn't as fluffy/flaky as I was expecting. Then again it was not a hot dessert so that could affect the texture that I am used to. The hot chocolate was in a big mug and unfortunately nothing special. My favorite were the macarons which were double trouble, in size and in price. There were only apple, PB&J, and caramel left and PBJ was surprisingly good. We also had the black forest cake paired with the mule. Pairing was perfect, but cake was too sweet for my liking, but perfect for what the hubs was craving. Great place for an intimate place to treat your sweetie to sweets. read more

Love this hidden bakery and bar on park ave. The place looks tiny on the outside but when you walk in it's very open and spacious with mirrors. It is also very contemporary with teal and wood decor and with a splash of art everywhere. The bar is what you first see but behind a sheer curtain there's a whole dining section. I came here after eating a big brunch looking just to have a drink. The menu is perfect - brunch- cocktails - coffee and unique bakery items. Items are reasonably priced and everything I tried very tasty. What I liked best was the vibe the place holds and gives off happy and laid back. Staff and owner very personable and down to earth. They have games to play and TVs to wat h footballer whatever you please, anything goes it seems. I finally made the trip to Caramel because I was craving a cupcake. I didn't end up getting a cupcake, but I did try the macarons and an eclair and they're both fantastic! I got a caramel eclair and blueberry and funfetti macarons. The eclair was fluffy and cream-filled and topped with the most delicious caramel sauce! The macarons were perfectly light and chewy. I especially loved the funfetti! The sweet potato chips were not my favorite. They're house made with "house spice blend," which I assumed meant savory spices. Instead it had a sweet blend with cinnamon and sugar, which didn't pair well with the garlic aioli dipping to me. I could see it being a great flavor combo for others, but I probably wouldn't have ordered if I knew it was sweet. They were nice and crispy and the aioli was delicious, though! Mel is pretty heavy, but when she gets drunk I always end up having to Carry Mel. It's worse because of this bakery and bar which is named after her. She gets all heavy from the bakery, then all wasted from the bar. And boom, there I am, carrying an extra-padded lush through the streets of Rochester at one in the morning. But I digress. I expected to hate this place because it's just so hipster and shocked myself when I ended up really liking it - and I was totally surprised that I did. It's a lovely little place and the owners are great and the products are awesome, and despite the shockingly high prices, the products are just so good that I'll slip them a 5 star rating when nobody is looking. As I said, way too expensive, and it's kind of a dine in dessert place, although they'll make stuff to go if you want, so expect to tip and what not for your already-sky-high dessert prices. Still absolutely delicious, and a really cool concept for people who want to go out at night and get sloshed (ahem) and get desserts. Plus it's right by the University in the Hipster area right where it belongs. And again, some of the friendliest people that I met in Rochester, too. But I wonder if they'll actually help me carry Mel next time. read more

We were greeted at the front counter by a very unpleasant clerk who seemed like this was the last place on earth she wanted to be. We ordered the Napoleon pastry and the Snickerdoodle cake. The icing on the Napoleon was so hard you couldn't even get your fork through it and the layered pastry was dry and stale. The Snickerdoodle cake was dry and the frosting never softened up as it was refrigerated so we waited and that did not happen. I loved coming here when it was Jembatat and wanted to give it a try. I went to Caramel Bakery and Bar for the Yelp event. You can find parking lot on park ave if the parallel parking aren't available. They are close by and easily to miss. You have to look carefully and it's in the building between other two restaurants. The employees were very friendly and greeting me. I asked them for paper and pen. One of the employees know a bit of signs so he and I signed a bit. It is very nice that some people know a bit of sign and able to communicate with us. Meanwhile we wait for the food and coffee. He introduced himself to me, Drew and I introduced myself then we talked a bit. It's quite nice to able to produce some conversations while waiting on food & coffee. They have varies of alcohol, teas, and coffee. They also have a lot of desserts that it looks so good! I had a cannoli and coffee for to go and got to try them. They are absolutely delicious!! Love, love, love! This little shop is the perfect destination for something sweet! I went after dinner for a dessert cocktail and treat. I couldn't decide on which home-made dessert I wanted (because everything looked so good), so I went with the fall charcuterie which was a sampler of mini desserts! I enjoyed them all! I also shared with others, since it is plenty big. The espresso martini was a perfect accent to the dessert platter. It was rimmed with caramel sauce. Yum! I also enjoyed a fall Moscow mule. I believe it was made with apple cider. Super refreshing! I will absolutely return. Just know the bakery isn't very large. You might have to wait for a table. We came for the Yelp elite experience, stayed for the awesome desserts and cocktails! I got a free cannoli and a cappuccino for a Yelp event and it was insanely delicious. The chocolate chip cannoli was velvety smooth with little flavorful chocolate bits and the shell was soft, but firm and crunchy. The cappuccino was authentic and so delicious that it didn't need any sweetener or flavor shots. My fiancée got a chai tea latté and it was really big and yummy. I also got an espresso martini and she grabbed and extra eclair. The espresso martini was excellent. You can taste the difference when one is made with real fresh espresso as opposed to espresso liquor. It's sweet but with that slight espresso bitterness, but just explodes with that fresh roasted coffee bean flavor. The eclair is absolutely gigantic, but that by no means detracts from the flavor. This has been one of my favorite eclairs. It's jam-packed with sweet cream and the pastry is light but sturdy. It adds a little sweetness and nice spongy texture. It's definitely a must have if you're stopping here! read more

We stopped here solely for take out pastry. It was late night so the selection wasn't as good as say earlier in the day. The employees were all friendly. The man who waited on us was super nice. We ordered the last slice of s'mores cake and an eclair. The s'mores cake was delicious and thick frosted. The eclair was so big and very full. It was a heavy pastry. For 4.00 we definitely had our money's worth with that eclair. We spent 7.50 for our dessert and still have leftovers for tomorrow. I consider that pretty reasonable for amazing pastry. I went to Caramel with my daughter for Sunday brunch. My first time there and I'm glad we we got there right when they opened at 10am! I had the "fully loaded" breakfast: Bacon, sausage, shredded cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs with your choice of hollandaise or white country gravy on a bed of open face biscuits. It was good - but I kind of wish I had gone with my first choice of Homefry Poutine: Seasoned homefries, applewood smoked bacon, shredded cheddar cheese with your choice of chicken gravy or white country gravy, topped with over easy eggs and drizzled with hollandaise sauce My daughter had banana pancakes and those were yummy! The blonde female working behind the bar and dessert case is the common denominator, and she always presents as unhelpful, uninterested, and cranky. We went here for dessert one evening: "Movie Night" and coffee. Spectacular! Chocolate lava cake, Carmel and carmel popcorn. It was so delicious and just the right size. The popcorn melted in your mouth literally (more on that below) . Warm, decadent cake. The atmosphere was relaxing with some coffee house vibes, but none of the pretentiousness. The staff was great: friendly and funky (but not overly helpful - see the deductions below). It's only 4.90 stars... I have to deduct some points: -0.05 for not having a free refill on the dessert... -0.05 for not revealing the secret to the melt in your mouth popcorn. Highly recommend stopping in. We stopped at Caramel Bakery for dessert after a delicious dinner elsewhere on Park Ave. and I'm so in love with this bakery. There's both indoor and a little outdoor seating. The restaurant is clean and of course tables are socially distant. We decided on the vegan peanut butter and jelly cake and the caramel trifle. The vegan peanut butter and jelly cake was sooooo good!! The flavor is more complex than most cakes. I don't know how to describe it. It reminds me of a fall cake with it's decadent peanut butter and bright jelly but I don't know why I tasted cinnamon?! Needless to know what was in the cake though because it was just a dreamy slice of cake! By the way, I looked at the receipt afterwards and it was only $3.50 per slice!! That's the price of a fancy cupcake!! The slice was pretty decent sized! The caramel trifle was soooooo decadent. While I wish it came in an actual trifle glass (it came in a to go frappe looking plastic cup), I loved it all the same. It was layered with soft whipped cream, chocolate mousse (??), and just many layers of soft goodness. Trust me, you can probably only eat half if that in one sitting. Post-date bliss. Often after we have a date night dinner at a nice restaurant, we're not ready to just go home. Sometimes we'll go to a coffee spot if any are still open, which is okay. This place, though, is perfect. The baked goods are delicious, we got a few. Better than the restaurant desserts we usually avoid (pretty sure those are usually frozen and shipped in from Guam). The macaroons were perfect, and the 'brookie' was every bit the indulgence it should be. I got espresso, which was perfect. We didn't get booze, but I love that they have it. If we're ubering around after dinner, I can see us sometimes tying a few more on instead of dessert and coffee. Or maybe all of the above.
