I think they added too much "tres leches" because when we started cutting the cake it was all mushy, and it was falling apart. It also had like a salty taste to it. Stood there at the counter and the two ladies continued to ignore me, was going to buy pastries and order a cake for a birthday..glad I chose to walk out from doing buisness with them. This review is specifically for the tamales-- 2 thumbs up! They only have chicken, pork, and rajas (jalapeño and cheese), but they are very delicious!! I like that you can buy them individually or by the dozen. They also sell pupusas and I look forward to trying those next time. read more

Twice now we have ordered a Tres Leches cake for two different occasions. The first time was for a birthday for a family member who hated chocolate. when we received the cake I thought it was odd to be two layers since Tres Leches isn't a very structurally sound cake. We cut it open and found it to be entirely chocolate. We tried it and it ended up tasting like a regular chocolate cake but dipped in milk. The second time, we specifically stated "No Chocolate" We got the cake, cut into it and found it to be Chocolate Marble. And when we ate it, found it to basically be a regular cake. Even more dry than last time. Don't order Tres Leches from here. read more

As much as I would like this place to grow and prosper, deep down I'd like for it to remain a hidden gem. This is an authentic Mexican Bakery that also offers other Latino favorites. The family (who I also believe owns the place) working was very nice and helpful. When I inquired about the pricing of a cake they had prices and samples ready to go! Today we tried the arroz con leche, which was amazing, a tress leche slice of cake, that my husband couldn't stop raving about, and 3 pieces of their sweet bread. All items did not disappoint and are definitely on our list of things to eat again. To top it off we paid less than $6 for it all! Don't let the exterior stop you from trying this place out. I'd wish I would have take pics, but didn't consider a Yelp review until the drive home. read more

We stumbled upon Carmelitos as a last minute bakery for a cake with in the next 72 hours and our experience was everything and more we walked into the shop and were greeted right away, we asked for a tiered cake for about 60-70 people for the next couple of days and they accommodated our order with no hesitation. We were able to sample their cakes and chose our flavor mind you it was about 8:30 PM and can i say their banana cake and tres leches is out of this world! Everyone at our party loved the cake and we even had a couple of people ask for their info! highly recommend carmelitos! read more

I have enjoyed all her baked goods, especially her strawberry and chocolate cakes! They are rich in flavor and do not taste artificial. Calligraphy/engravings: I have grown to appreciate the special touch a personalized name card or sign because of my experience with Gloria. For our wedding, Gloria completed hand calligraphy for over 200 name cards beautifully and kept up with our guest updates. It was a nice treat and gift we gave to each of our special guests as well. I have many guests who took photos and their name cards home as a highlight from our wedding. For my bridal shower, Gloria also provided all signs - from calligraphy food name cards to welcome sign, these touches greatly elevated the overall experience for everyone! Just imagine how a simple shrimp plate became more elegant because even its card was personalized. At the very least, if you have a once in a lifetime event, I highly recommend considering personalized calligraphy. You can always save these name cards/signs (especially food) for future events so it's really an investment! For the price, I wouldn't be back. A half dozen was over $30, and these are standard cupcakes, not a the larger variety you might find at crave or Dessert Bar.

I initially contacted them 2 weeks before my event via email with a picture of a cake design that I liked and they responded fairly quickly but did require me to call them to confirm the order. I paid in full over the phone (they require you to pay in full or pay half over the phone before pick up). The cake itself was delicious and everyone of my guests loved it. It was so moist and also matched the image I gave them. I deducted two stars is because the night before my pickup they gave me a call at about 4:15pm and did not leave a message. I gave them a call back at 4:30pm and left a message myself. The store closes at 5pm so I assumed I would get a call back on the same day but did not. My agreed pick up time for the cake was at 10 am the following morning and when I got there they told me they tried giving me a call the day before to let me know that the cake would be ready at noon instead. This was a little bit annoying seeing as there was no actual communication with me and I now had to return 2 hours later to pick up my cake on the day that I am hosting my event and have several other errands to run. I only received an apology over the miscommunication. Either way, I was able to pick up my cake at noon and it all turned out fine, but I wish they had just left me a message the day before instead of just never giving me a call back and having me come in twice.

We went 30 min after opening and waited 15 minutes or so (thankful for the shade!). Heads up-- they're open only Thursday and Saturday. Aside from the croissants, there are cookies, macarons, banana pudding, and fresh leches. I enjoyed trying everything but the cinnamon roll was by far my favorite as a sweet tooth, and MT loved the hot honey pizza croissant. Cinnamon roll (5/5)-- described as having cookie butter on the menu, but I didn't taste any of it. However the vanilla bean icing was very sweet and very good! The edges of the roll weren't dried out which was nice, and the center bit was so soft and saturated with that icing. Yum! Kouign amann (4/5)-- interesting take with a contrast of textures with a crispier bottom and a denser, chewier middle. The caramelized sugar wasn't super sweet. Could see this paired nicely with tea or coffee. Almond raspberry croissant (3/5)-- very faint raspberry flavor, would be nice to have more of the raspberry gel or even preserves/jam. There wasn't much of the frangipane or at least it wasn't very sweet, so there wasn't much flavor overall. Hot honey pizza croissant (5/5)-- the ends were crisp and the middle was soft and chewy. The tomato sauce was on the sweeter side and did most of the lifting on flavor while the pepperoni and cheese followed in subtle notes. MT demolished it, and even though I don't usually like savory pastries, I thought this one was really tasty! Chili chive croissant (4/5)-- super airy, light, and fragrant pastry. Definitely had that chive aroma but the taste was actually quite light and reminiscent of a Chinese green onion pancake. Overall a savory pick but also a little sweet as well. Biscoff cookie (3.5/5)-- sweet from the white chocolate chips but not super Biscoff-y. The texture was dense but soft, not super chewy. Would be yummier with more Biscoff spices or flavor! Smores bun (3/5)-- beautiful presentation and looked promising, but this one was mainly a cream bun. The vanilla pastry was solid, the bread was soft. For my expectations of a s'mores flavor profile, the chocolate ganache could be more chocolatey and less pudding-like, and the graham crackers didn't add much flavor. Great if you're looking for a straight up cream bun though! Despite being busy, the staff were friendly. There's a small window side table for 4 people that was nice to use (although the line snakes right behind your back when seated) + a few tables outdoor. Maybe I didn't pick their best pastries, but I probably wouldn't make a dedicated 30 min drive to visit. Sweet Bee is still a great addition to the suburbs, I would definitely return to try other things if I lived closer! The prices are also more reasonable than bakeries in the loop!
