My friends and family were in need of a baker who could handle a custom cake for graduation and a birthday, and it needed to be from League City. Cakes by Jula not only stood out because of their Yelp rating but also because their gallery of beautifully decorated cakes. Jula delivered in a big way, the cakes became the highlight of our celebrations. Communication was fairly swift. Prices seemed reasonable at $5 a serving, which meant our cake was close to $150 which just about 40 people. (#1) Given the short notice, we appreciated how quickly she was able to assemble a beautiful buttercream cake. We loved the endless options for fillings, design and flexibility. The cakes were made on time and pickup was easy. The standout cake for us was a black sesame strawberry butter cream cake, which wasn't too sweet and was smooth, fluffy, and incredibly satisfying with every bite. It was one of the few times where I noticed guests were going for seconds, including yours truly. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to hire Jula again. When my fiancé and myself came to the shop to do the cake tasting, everyone was so nice and welcoming. I found this bakery by google maps and so glad I did! I went in a few weeks prior my event to inquire about cakes. Mind you, I don't know anything about cakes other than they taste delicious. They were patient with me and helped me understand the entire process. The price was very reasonable and the service was excellent. It was truly stress free- we told Jula what we wanted and then pretty much didn't have to worry about anything from that point on! I'm rediscovering the town after being home so much the past year. While dropping off a package next door, I noticed the bakery had cannoli on the window. There aren't enough places with good cannoli and this bakery will help satisfy the craving when we've got one. Walking in, I was met with the sweet wonderful smell of vanilla and cupcakes. The cannoli are filled to order, which is how it should be done so the shells stay crispy. And crispy they are! This filling is more pastry cream than ricotta (my favorite Detroit-area Italian bakeries are usually ricotta), but it is still quite delicious. Disappointed because I recently ordered a cake from here. I have high expectations for people I pay a premium price to. If not, I would order a cake from H-E-B or Kroger and pay $30-40 for it vs $100-150. I think where my order fell short is the person decorating failed to read the details I put in the email and only looked at the picture and decided to do their "rendition" of what I wanted. However, it fell short. Not only is the candy placement ridiculous, the cake isn't the color I ordered.. which is disappointing. I initially told myself I should just provide my own candy to put on myself because I know I have high expectations but I thought since this business has been very satisfying to me before, it would be fine. I called to explain my disappointment, not hoping to gain anything other than words of apology and that they would speak with the decorator about reading, or taking more details, etc... but the manager basically told me "well, it looks like what you requested..." she stubbled over her words a bit. Probably new to management. Anyways, form your own opinion. I'm sure it will taste great. Wedding cake blues We met with them did our tasting and sent pictures of what we were interested in. They said they hadn't done what we asked before but they would try it before hand. Wedding day: the cake was NOT EVEN CLOSE to what we asked for. No one ever contacted us to say that they couldn't replicate what asked for. The cake was slightly lopsided and it had giant 'anchors' in it. The anchors were so big that when it we cut into it we hit them and the venue staff had to step in to fix it. It was my granddaughter's 2nd birthday and currently everything has to be like Ariel, the Little Mermaid. So my daughter set off to have a custom cake made for her and heard from other moms in the area that Cakes by Jula was good, so that's where she went. The birthday cake was perfect, it was blue like the ocean and had edible fish, shells and star fishes and topped with the Princess Ariel, and my lil granddaughter loved that cake! But let's talk about the cake itself, it was an Italian cream cake, I have never had Italian cream and I have to say all other cakes are now ruined because this was a great tasting cake! I can't even describe it, it's the texture of a spice cake, but not the flavoring of one, it was a sweet nutty cake, the blue frosting was a buttercream, but it wasn't a heavy buttercream, it was light and went perfectly with the Italian cream cake. I emailed a picture of a hat for a theme of Kentucky derby, birthday and 4th of July all in one! I received a reply email it won't look at exact due to short notice, but close to it. I was so excited to present this cake to my mother in law and the cake surprised her greatly! It was pretty though I would have preferred fondant over icing, white flower dyed in one area very noticeable on top from blue icing and cracked in a couple areas, non edible flower, ribbon and beads, but the cake was moist and was delicious!!
