I have had an opportunity to work with Scott and Cara Nava from Carasco Photography on several occasions and can honestly say that they are 2 of the hardest working, talented and nicest photographers in Chicago. They have one goal in mind and that is to make their clients happy by providing quality work. They work in conjunction to get you the shots that you want and need- both the traditional posed photos as well as the spontaneous ones that really capture the emotion. We absolutely LOVE Carasco Photography. We wanted to find someone who was not only a great photographer, but someone whom we could feel 100% comfortable spending our entire wedding day with. We were also very drawn to their artistic photo style, as much of their work could easily be featured in high-end fashion magazines. Cara & Scott are not only amazing photographers, but are equally amazing people who are incredibly passionate about their work. They wowed us with their work on our engagement photos and took great effort to get to know us throughout the process via emails, calls, and meetings over food/drink where we really got to know them even better. If interested in more conventional photos, they're not the right fit. If you have a larger budget, care passionately about quality and details, want the WOW factor, and want your wedding album to rival a fashion or art book, they are worth every penny. I am going to review the less obvious as opposed to their photography as it speaks for itself. We hired Scott and Cara for our wedding in October of 2013 but actually started working with them in the summer of 2012. Throughout that time they remained in contact and were available to answer questions as needed. Technology-wise, I was pleased with their user-friendly client website and also extremely happy that our photos were sent to us on a jump-drive as opposed to a CD/DVD. Pros: Professional, focused, organized, efficient and experienced. Obviously, our wedding wasn't their first rodeo so when things didn't go as planned (rain) they were able to quickly think on their feet and provide alternatives. An unruly/unfocused wedding party was no match for Scott who easily took charge and provided direction ensuring we stayed on task and, most importantly, on schedule. I am self-admittedly not very photogenic but Scott and Cara provided encouragement and tips to increase my level of comfort in front of the lens. Because they are a husband and wife team they work very well together and make adjustments to lighting, lens and scenery in an efficient manner Cons: Pricey but the old adage remains true, "you get what you pay for." Carasco was the first photo vendor I met with and, honestly, I wasn't sold after our initial meeting. However, after interviewing others I quickly began to feel that Carasco, Scott and Cara were the gold standard of photography. They were slightly out of our price range but willing to work with us and provide a package that fit within our budget. In the end, our expectations were exceeded with the product we received and the service we were provided. read more

Carasco Photography was the event photographer for an event my non-profit organization threw. Our photographer (Evan?) was so professional and polite and an all around nice guy. The pictures he took were absolutely gorgeous, and made the event we worked so hard on truly sparkle. He captured all the details, got great candids, and made sure we had beautiful memories of the night. Cara is one of the sweetest people, and the quality of everything Carasco does is absolutely stunning. If my husband and I ever renew our vows - they'll be our wedding photographer for sure! We were married on Sept 2 2007, and honestly, we could not have been happier with Scott and Cara at Carasco. I had originally not budgeted for professional photographers, but changed my mind after seeing their work. On retrospect, it was the best money we spent in the entire wedding. They spent a lot of time with us before the wedding. I HATE having my picture taken, mostly because I don't photograph well. They scheduled a complimentary engagement session for us before the wedding that really put me at ease. We had our dog in the pictures, and Cara spent a good chunk of time not only lugging equipment but carrying a bag of dog poop. They sent us full-res pictures on a DVD and I was floored by how beautiful we looked, how Scott incorporated the details of our location, and how he made us look like us, but better. They arrived early to our wedding venue and scouted locations. They had beautiful spots picked out in advance. I wanted a combination of candid photojournalism and semi-posed, and that is exactly what we got. I had given Scott a list of must-have shots and he nailed every one. Scott and Cara took beautiful shots of the environment and little details that I never would have thought to photograph. Our ceremony photos captured our absolute joy, even though they had to shoot many of them straight into the sun. They somehow managed to "get" our sense of humor (and the humors of our guests) and that came out in the photographs too. They were present without being obtrusive, and Cara was a reassuring, warm presence every step of the way. By far, the best part was the incredibly beautiful book we ended up with. Scott is a master at post-processing. His decisions (color correction, cropping, resizing) added that final "pizzaz" to already strong work. He edited 600 photographs into a document that tells the story of our wedding from beginning to end. We never tire of looking at it. The book is our first family heirloom. Oh yeah, they give you the printing rights to your photos, which ends up saving you money. Highly, highly recommend! read more

I am really, really late in writing this review but I want to make sure I added my voice to an already very positive set of review for Carasco Photography. My family hired Carasco Photography for my husband's and my wedding which took place over Memorial Day weekend 2014. We initially found them through our venue, Germania Place, on the list of "preferred vendors" and decided to meet Scott and Cara in person to discuss our expectations and vision for the big day. From our first meeting in their awesome studio, it was clear to me that Scott and Cara not only have the credentials and experience as top-of-the-line wedding photographers but they were very helpful in getting me to articulate what my vision for the wedding was. They were very supportive from the time we started working with them (in March 2013 or so) through the day of and after the fact, when photos were developed and processed. We ended up booking Ryan, who is one of Cara and Scott's lead photographers. I cant say enough great things about Ryan; he has a great sense of humor, was easy to work with, and we never felt awkward around him (yep, not even during those "now stare longingly into each others' eyes" engagement photos). We had our engagement photos taken with Ryan and he was great; everyone was very impressed with the quality and breadth of the photos. The same was true for the wedding day, which went amazingly and which was perfectly captured by Ryan and his partner that day, Leland. There is not one photo opp I didnt get that I wish I had; Ryan captured everything and did so in a creative way that truly captured the spirit of the day. The photos were so good that, in fact, my mother who did not order a photo album as part of our photo package initially was so enamored with them that she immediately called Cara to order one. Bottom line: I highly recommend Carasco Photography for their wedding photo services. They are among the best in the Chicago area from a price and quality perspective and you will not be disappointed when you hire them! We used Carasco for our engagement and wedding pictures and they are simply amazing. Although Cara and Scott were booked for our events, we had the pleasure of using one of their associates, Kirsten who was just awesome. Very organized and professional, Kirsten kept our day moving along and scouted locations for bridal party shots ahead of time. Carasco has a more modern style and that's exactly what we wanted. They are on top of their game and communicating with them regardless of the questions was a breeze. I had the pleasure of working with Rose and Frank, two of Cara and Scott's wonderfully talented associates, who were absolutely fabulous as photographers at my wedding. They provided me with the quantity and quality of photos I so very much wanted, and focused on exactly what I was looking for - candid shots that embodied the joy and happiness of the day. The initial meeting with Scott, Cara and Rose was fabulous -- they are masters of their work, very professional and, most importantly, they LISTENED. They asked all the right questions and clarified anything they needed to in order to make sure they totally understood our needs, wants and concerns. The day of the wedding, Rose took photos of the bridal party and Frank tended to the groomsmen. Rose came up to me at the beginning to clarify a few things, in order to make sure she would focus on getting the photos I wanted. She then told me to ignore her, and that she would be in the background snapping away -- I barely even saw her when she took the majority of the photos! As it was a gorgeous day, they both took us to Northwestern's campus, and the photos from there are some of my favorite from the evening. By the time Rose and Frank were going to leave, Rose was nice enough to take one last picture of my sorority sisters and I -- even after she had packed away most of her equipment. I used an associate photographer for my wedding. He did amazing engagement pictures so I was super excited about my wedding day. I know he scoped out the area for our engagement pics before hand but he clearly did not do it for my wedding jpictures, I was even told by him that he looked it up online. I had a huge wedding party and I know it could be a little chaotic with that many people but he seemed to be very overwhelmed. His associate photographer was great though and very calm and seemed to work well under pressure. My pictures turned out pretty good, I just wish he had more ideas of pictures for just my husband and I. He was not being very creative. So all in all they turned out ok. Cut to months later, I recommended carasco to MANY people who I know booked them. One bring a relative who also had a big bridal party. Well one of my bridesmaids (my sister ) told her that our photographer who she was using as well seemed very overwhelmed with our large group. No joke I got a voicemail from Cara herself bitching me out for telling their client, my family member, who I referred to them, about how the photographer was. I felt like I was in high school. I never had anyone verbally attack me like that for something I did not do. I could not believe I was being reprimanded about this. All in all, i felt that since my business was over with them, I saw the true side of Cara, who seemed great at first. Their pictures are great but make sure no one in your bridal party tells one of their clients something they didn't like about the photographer. I'm actually scared right now that I'm going to get a phone call from her tomorrow about this review. read more

We felt instantly comfortable around them which really came across in our pictures. They worked to determine our style and executed to a "t". Photography was one of my biggest concerns for our wedding. After meeting with Cara and Scott at Carasco Photography and booking them for our wedding, my concerns subsided and I am thrilled with the memories their associates Ryan and Leland captured from our Wedding Day! My husband and I met with 3 other possible photographers and no one compared to Cara and Scott. Not only were they personable, but they really showed enthusiasm at our initial meeting. My husband and I were surprised to see that as we were talking, Cara was creating a timeline and writing all the important details down. Right there, we knew we had met the perfect company to capture our wedding day. Although, Cara and Scott were not the official photographers for our wedding, Cara and Scott worked with us all the way up to and after our wedding day. They made it so easy to just trust our photographers and to not stress over what was happening. I knew that Ryan and Leland would capture what I wanted. I had spent a lot of time talking with Cara about the things that were important to us. Cara was and is amazing! She answered any and all of my questions within hours, and I had A LOT! I absolutely love my wedding pictures! Ryan and Leland captured all the moments I had wanted and even some that I did not know I wanted. They did amazing work and it was one of the hardest things to choose a specific number of photos for my wedding book. With that said, 5 months after our Wedding, Cara and I are still working together to get our wedding book completed. I cannot wait to see the final photo book but I know Cara will create something amazing that it will all be worth the wait. As part of our wedding package (which was altered to exactly what we wanted), we also had our engagement photos through Carasco. It was a perfect way to get to know Ryan and create that initial relationship so that the day of wasn't uncomfortable or weird. We are very happy with our engagement photos and are glad we kept that as part of our wedding package! I will continue to recommend Carasco Photography to anyone that needs a photographer for any event. They are amazing people to work with and are so personable you almost forget they are a "company" and not just friends. read more
