I emailed this KOA to inquire about the burn ban that was going on in the area. Per county rules, JetBoils ARE allowed but this campground told me I couldn't use them and suggested I get a cabin instead. So they're lying to try to make customers upgrade for an unnecessary cost. They should be embarrassed. If you don't want to allow JetBoils then say that but don't lie to make it sound like they're not allowed when the county says they're okay. read more

Sweet campsite at this KOA by the water. You can hear the River rushing down and creating this "white noise" type of sound all times of the day. Super comforting during the night. It was super easy to check in and they were kind enough to let us check in early (11:45am) They do offer cabin rentals, RV sites and tent sites. Our Site: We got a tent site and it was pretty big. A bit bigger than the rest and it was perfect for our party of 4. You can only bring one tent and it has to be on the tent pad so extra tents or any tents placed other than the tent pad are not allowed. Which was a huge bummer. We were 2 couples with 2 tents and had to purchase a bigger tent to fit all of us in it to fit on the pad. All in all we made it work. Parking: You have to register all vehicles that are staying in the campsite and only one car is allowed per site, which is somewhat of an inconvenience. Any extra vehicles are $5 more. We were told to park the extra vehicle in the extra parking spaces that were far away from our site. Bathrooms and Showers: They only have Male and Female bathrooms and showers an no gender neutral bathrooms or showers, so it can be very uncomfortable for masculine presenting women to go to the bathroom. They did say they had just remodeled the entire place so they completely missed the opportunity to be more inclusive. However, the bathrooms were very clean, and the showers were really nice. We did bring our own bathroom tent to avoid any type of uncomfortable encounters when having to use the little girls room and were told we could not have it bc they were trying to grow grass and any bodily fluids would be harmful to the soil. So we had to put our toilet away :( Each site has a fire pit and the camp ground offers wifi and a little convenient store. They do come around every other hour or so on their golf-cars selling fire wood and making sure everyone is following the rules. I honestly loved this place and would come back. The town's nearby are gorgeous and the staff here is super nice. read more

Totally happy here. Zero complaints. Staff were helpful and friendly and re-arranged sites so I would not have to move. Super happy with tent site TA. River side setting was tranquil and had some shade. Bathroom was clean. Wifi worked great. Laundry was easy to use. Not much road noise. Well stocked store. Large sitting area/kitchenette/pool table area. Would not hesitate to return. read more

really nice layout and super clean bathrooms. definitely a nicer way to camp! some of the camping sites are out of wifi range which was a bit of a bummer, but really enjoyed our stay overall. prices on firewood and other things were fairly reasonable compared to local stores as well. great location to local attractions and towns as well. we would definitely go back. read more

Very charming KOA in an amazing location. This KOA features a large dog park, spots on the river, and a heated pool. We really enjoyed our stay. The only negative is no sewer but they have a device to remove sewage from your camper at your spot for $10. There's even a bike trail from the KOA to Carbondale. Also in the area I recommend checking out Penny Hot Springs about 8 miles away for free hot springs in the national forest. read more

DON'T STAY HERE- ESPECIALLY IF YOU NEED MORE THAN 4 cabins/sites. Awful customer service. This koa looks super nice however I will never stay at this location due to the people who run it. I was midway through making reservations when the sites sold out for what I needed to accommodate my group (I checked beforehand to make sure they had what I needed available). Because it's their winter season no one is in the office and all the info I could find only included this number that led to a message saying no one was there and to go to the website to find any info. After spending about an hour scouring the page I ended calling another KOA that were super helpful and told me how to go about cancelling (by email). Fast forward to about 8 hours later I received a dismissive email back stating that they would have cancelled my reservations anyway because they don't accommodate parties of more than 4 sites. (We needed 6) and that I would be charged a $10 cancellation fee for each of the sites. I asked her where it stated anything about the number of sites booked. It's al the way at the bottom under the info tab btw. It didn't even cross my mind to have to look for that since I wasn't looking for a group site. Plus I had talked to like 3 other KOAs in the past week explaining my situation with the number of sites we needed etc and all were more than willing to be accommodating for me. Not 1 mentioned anything about any site limits. We were paying for 3 cabins and 3 RV spots! It's a family get together with my 78 yr old parents and my siblings (all in our 40s and 50s) and our kids. We all live in different states and Covid has prevented us from seeing each other this past year. Nothing crazy. And I don't get it. Money is money I thought??! Whether it's people who know each other or don't know each other, it's the same amount of profit for them. ‍‍ I also think it's unacceptable to charge a cancellation fee when someone is midway making a reservation and cannot even compete it before sites sell out. (I was only 3 sites in). I am just so upset and think it's poor business practice to be dismissive to the customer. Things aren't always black and white and I think they should have handled this better. read more

We loved staying here. It was our first KOA experience. The dog park was perfect for our service dog. The laundry area was great while we played pool. Our camping spot was so nice. We didn't feel like we were camping in the city like some KOA's we have passed. It's far enough out from the incredible cute town of Carbondale. The bathrooms were always clean. I think this place has been greatly improved lately. It has been the best campground on our week long road trip. We called last minute and the lady on phone was super nice and accommodating. She put us in a beautiful spot right on the river (#3). It had a brand new concrete patio with round table and furniture and a fire pit. The bathrooms are brand new and were clean. They had a volleyball net, a small playground, a little dog park, which our dog loved. We didn't try the pool. All-in-all a great experience. read more

We loved this KOA. Covid was in full swing when we were there and I can't say enough how the staff went over and above to keep the place clean and germ free. The bike trail from the campground to Carbondale was a very scenic 6 mile ride (12 mi RT) and the day trip we took to Maroon Belles was out of this world! Can't wait to go back again. read more

Absolutely stunning location. Driving through the Rockies was terrible. I wish I could have seen more of the campground, but I got there after dark because of construction through the mountains. I arrived after the office had closed and was confused about how to check in with my reservation. Staff was really helpful the next morning over the phone to fix my check-in mistake. Very clean and attractive campground, well maintained. Bathrooms are new and very nice. Staff is helpful and pleasant. If a site on the river is available take it! Sites have either table and chairs or picnic tables, grills and fire pit. Nice campsites with lots of trees around the property. They also have tent sites and cabins.Small laundry room but room attached to it has a tv with dvd player, movies, books, pool table and comfy couch.Reasonably priced and they give military discount. Great dog area but the only con I have is that they had the sprinklers on all day Sunday in the dog area so we could not take our dog there until the evening. A suggestion to them would be to water at night. I would recommend this KOA. I think you would enjoy your stay here. read more

The worst KOA camping experience I have ever had. I needed a place to just hang a hammock for four nights so I wasn't looking for the Ritz. I made reservations months in advance and was promised a river side area with an 'abundance' of trees. When I got there, no riverside locations were available. Ok, I guess no fishing before breakfast. Not a serious problem. However there were only two trees on the only site available. Not good when they are closer than my hammock is long. The site was right on the corner and people literally drive thru my campsite- occasionally during the early evening but in the middle of the night. Did I say these were tent sites? Well, these tiny sites were also assigned to motor homes as well. Really crowded with only a step or two between my hammock, the three large tents on one side, the motor home on one side, and pop-up campers in the third side. People were getting up in the middle if the night stumbling into my hammock trying to find place to pee. More than once I caught someone dropping drawers in my campsite. My evenings were spent listening to a sitar until 1a one night, a series of bad electric guitar versions of the first few licks from every Led Zepplin ever written (at least I think it was Led Zepplin.), and disembodied voices yelling at each other to shut the F- up. Who knows what bit of interesting commentary on the human condition I will witness tonight? A father is currently teaching their 11 yr old to back up a motor home trailer right now. I had to pull up my stakes for my rain fly or they would have been run over. I tried repeatedly to find another place to camp or even a hotel. Nothing. I complained at the desk and was told that the campsite layout was KOA policy, not theirs. They couldn't be there 24/7 to enforce 'quiet time'. I was clearly being unreasonable all these issues. The campground was provided as a recommendation by my group as a location to stay during a conference in Carbondale. I am personally writing a letter to every organization who uses the campground for similar purposes and asking that it be removed from their list. I am contacting AAA and asking that it be down graded as a possible camping location. read more

Absolute horrible place with a foul odor of sting sewage that made the stay unpleasant. Every time we've stayed here it stinks and there's always parting crazy kids that are smoking illegal drugs... not marijuana! No rest whatsoever. The staff is rude and disrespectful. They don't care if you get sleep, they don't clean the grounds or the restrooms. There was vomit and cc in the bathroom that was never cleaned during our entire two-week stay! Steve management yelled at me for reporting the condition of the bathroom and the illegal drugs that they condone on their private property. If you're looking for a peaceful resort Glamping feel this is not the place. read more

We rented cabin #3 and its location was great. Right on the Crystal River. The fall colors were magnificent. It was a very chilly night but the heater kept up nicely. The mattress was a little soft but we managed. Our friends stayed with there RV as well so we were able to have a wonderful time. I had to go to the office area to get Wifi. That was a pain in a chilly morning. read more

The campground pool area is one of the first things you see when you pull in and it looks severely neglected. The check in staff immediately yelled at someone else in our party because they went to explore the grounds as we were checking in... Apparently the staff is a bit tightly wound and did not know they were with us and had a reservation. That seemed to set the tone for the entire holiday weekend. The staff was not courteous and at every encounter it appeared that we were a burden to them. This place had no activities for kids and they appeared to not be welcomed... Kids were riding bikes in front of their maintenance shed and were told they should have had permission prior to riding there! This is an area that is out in the open, no signs indicating they should not be there. We were courteous and always responded to the staff but they never came around to being cordial or even close to being campground 'hosts'. Would not recommend kids visit this campground due to unreasonable management. An older couple who likes to stay within the strict confines of their campsite would probably enjoy this campground. read more

I'm 72 and my husband is 77, I made online reservations for June 2017, in early January 28 & 29, 2017 for Carbondale KOA. At that time I mentioned I thought I may have made a mistake with my online reservations. My daughter was also coming up, but I didn't know which dates, but the online form (Feb. 1, 2017) required her name & date but I entered it and mentioned again I didn't know the dates. I never heard back from Erin (manager) at Carbondale KOA and figured they would take care of this when we arrived. We arrived in June and upon check-in I told them I didn't know if my daughter would come to tent or which days. The attendant didn't ask or check further. The campground has very poor internet connections, couldn't receive cell phone calls. You had to go on the HWY closer to town to get reception. On June 17th Erin called me twice on my cell phone # about charging me for the no show tent space. Erin charged me over $43 for my daughters tent reservation (we had never confirmed in Feb. nor when we checked in). When I talked to Erin, she didn't care, she would not refund the money. Then Erin went on her computer, she showed me her notes, that stated she didn't know what I meant or wanted in Jan. about the tent space. I never heard from Erin in Feb. or after, but I guess she decided not to contact me even though she had questions about the dates, but instead just decided on her own to go with the dates the online form required me to fill out to make reservations for my daughter. So the charges stayed! I contacted the home office of KOA and they stated the KOA's are privately owned and the home office can't give me a credit or refund. They said they would contact Carbondale and get back to me - they haven't as of 2 weeks later. POOR POOR BUSINESS! I will never stay at Carbondale KOA again. But more important I will verify all parts of my reservations or only call in my reservations and MUST get a confirmation stating all info. Very unhappy customer. read more

Do not plan to tent camp here. We had site TN which had very little privacy and was about 40 feet from HWY 133. There was no screening between the site and the highway so you got traffic noise and headlights all night. Access to water was inconvenient - by the restrooms via a small sink. We also experienced loud music until midnight. We were told it came from a house across the river. Owners were unaware of the situation until informed by campers in the morning. read more
