Salty, salty, salty.. Saltiest pizza I've had by far! Pretty bland what some may call "safe" pizza. But I'd rather have Pizza Hut or Dominos and I purchase neither of those on a regular. (Only in extreme cases) The service was subpar as we were greeted and refills occurred, but it took forever to get our pizza! We started with the meatballs and I would not suggest these rubber balls to anyone. She said they were made "in house" but they tasted very processed. I had forgotten just how much I like Carbone's Pizza. This place is slightly divey in a good St. Paul way. In some ways it reminds me of the original Red Savoy's - dark, cozy, with pizza to die for. If you order take-out, you'll be surprised that their pizza doesn't come in a box. They'll hand it to you in one of their paper bags. Less cost for them, plus it helps the crust not to get as soggy so quickly. Trust me, you don't want their crust getting soggy. Their crust is a thin, almost cracker-like crust, that's done to perfection. They invented flatbread before there was flatbread. It gives you that crispy bottom without the charred, burnt taste that many pizza parlors have. On top of the crisp crust is a thin layer of tangy pizza sauce that's slightly bland. The toppings are terrific - thick pepperoni, slices of onion, and mountains of cheese. Does it get any better? You better order two as you'll eat through one in no time. The pizza is the best cracker crust pizza in the Twin Cities! I liked the atmosphere of the pre-remodel, but understand the need for expansion. Still make regular trips in from Excelsior to get a Carbone's (on Randolph) fix. 10" sausage and pepperoni is my go to and I don't think there is anything better on the menu than that. The 10" is perfect ratio of inner pieces to outer pieces, so consider getting smaller pizzas rather than a large one. Enjoy! read more

Pizza. Mmmmm. Cut Minnesota-style (square slices). Great ratio of cheese to red sauce and other toppers. This gem is in my neighborhood and has been for years and years. They've expanded their indoor and outdoor seating over the last 2 years. The outdoor seating is on the north side of the street so no screaming hot sun warming your beer. Beyond pizza, their salads are made with fresh fresh fresh ingredients. The spaghetti got raves from my pasta-loving brother-in-law. Pick-up is super efficient. They deliver via Bite Squad which drives up the price point-- but so worth it when I'm craving Carbone's. read more

Reallly tasty thin, thin crust pizza. They load it with toppings as many places do not. You ask for sausage? each little square has 2-4 pieces on it. Onions come loaded in thin long shreds, everywhere. Very nice. It's best to eat it in if you want the crust crisp, though. I knocked one star off because they charge a bit too much for the amount you get. read more

This is my favorite Carbone's. It's not part of the franchises and maybe that makes a difference. I've only had the pizza but it's always delicious. They recently remodeled and it looks great inside tho I always get my order to go. I definitely wouldn't mind dining in with a group of friends some time for some beer and pizza tho. read more

Wow, that is really exceptional pizza. I can't believe it's taken me 20 years to finally try this place. But it's extraordinary pizza. Super thin and crispy crust, a wonderful sauce, more than enough cheese. Definitely no need to order double cheese on this pizza. We had a sausage with mushrooms, and a pepperoni with mushrooms. Both were absolutely perfect. My only complaint is that they don't deliver. Sauce not all over the place and the cheese does not make it over greasy. We went in for their $6.99 lunch special, which happens to be everyday at this location*. A individual 7" pizza w/ one topping (it was closer to a 10") and your choice of a cup of soup or salad along with a soda. It was the perfect amount. Seriously you didn't need more. The service was quick and pizza was tasty. Definitely will be back for this special. * I've noticed that Carbone's has different prices and specials at different locations and from past experiences, not all places accept the coupons that are printed. read more

I'd not had a sit-down meal in the renovated space before today, It looks lovely but please work on the traffic flow and space layout issues. My table was jostled constantly and my drink was almost tipped a few times. I'm glad you're busy and successful but I wanted a long time to be waited on (It is the curse of the single female dining out). Then I wasn't done with my pizza and had two people offer to box it up. That really is not a subtle way to tell someone to move on. I had not even finished my soda. It was a busy evening but I felt shooed out. My food was good as always but ... I'm a plus-30 year customer and am disappointed in how I was treated. i guess it's carryout from now on. Eating out by yourself isn't a lot of fun as it is. Local pizza joint that's open late and had amazing food, all wins in my book. The pizza was exactly what we needed after a long night of wandering this area of Minnesota. The staff were extremely friendly despite us coming in ten minutes before they closed. Their ovens they aid are even from the 50 or 60s! We all enjoyed a local beer while we waited for the pizza. In times of COVID I have tried my best to support small businesses that I have frequented for years. I was hung up on twice and told they would not correct it for me and I should have called back last night rather than early this morning. I advise any person who likes to be treated as a valued member of this community/neighborhood to get your pizza and Italian food elsewhere. I really wish I could give this place more stars because of how nice the waitress was but I wasn't impressed by the sub I just had. I'm assuming that their pizza is their speciality. Both my wife & I came here for lunch today & we both got Italian subs on wheat. Service was pretty good. Waitress came to us quick & it took an average amount of time to get our food to us. That's about where the good stops. Sandwich was no better than mediocre. The bread wasn't really fresh (I could've bought it from Jewel). The flavors on the sub were pretty average, nothing phenomenal. We asked for hot peppers. Tasted like they used banana peppers instead of like Giardinera or something but they weren't really hot at all. Idk, maybe I'm overly critical because I'm from Chicago & we have a SLEW of amazing local pizza/sub restaurants. However, I can't recommend this spot for subs. read more

Not one employee smiled the entire time I was here with my family. The mozzarella sticks could have used another minute in the oven, but kids liked them. Kids' pizzas came on ugly plastic lunch trays that took up too much space on the table. We also got charged for kids' drinks and toppings that were supposed to be included in the kid meal price. We played songs on the Touch Tunes app, but they could only be heard in the bar area, not the dining room where we were sitting, right next to the "jukebox." Overall, a disappointing experience. I ordered pizza with toppings that were way too exotic for Carbone's comfort zone. (It was shrimp and mushrooms) I am an adventurous eater, but today I made a mistake. The combination I'll admit was not a pretty one, but I'll also say the sauce and crust definitely had some problems. For the sauce, I wasn't getting a rich sweet tomato sauce, more of a slush almost bitter taste. My toppings were, to say the least, plain. The shrimp was the size of tiny guppies. My mushrooms were basically just a different texture in the pizza. The cheese was good at the moment but I wouldn't wait a day to eat the pizza (the crust becomes crunchy and the cheese becomes chewy). They had good social distancing. Carbone's was my introduction to Twin Cities style pizza. Good lord, is it good. I love the cracker crust and the little squares. I love their sausage (Hotdish's perpetual topping choice), I love their Canadian Bacon (Tapas's), i love their mushrooms (mine). Carbone's is basically one big, flat love circle for me. I'm always happy when Hotdish's dad Pot Roast comes to town bc he always wants to go to Carbone's. The staff is very young and very tolerant, which is good and bad. Good bc they find Tapas's bad Italian accent charming long after it's begun to wear on my nerves; bad in that they didn't tell the family collectively watching a movie loudly on a phone that they should just get their pizza to go if they want to watch a flick or bring a screen big enough to share with us all. The booths are pretty....intimate, so if you're with a big group in number and/or girth, pray you can score a booth in the middle. Overall, excellent. I haven't been to Punch yet, though. Our family has been coming here since the place opened. Needless to say we love the pizza and the staff. The new renovations are wonderful! Yummy thin crust pizza with tons of cheese and a great spicy sauce. They are really busy so if you want to dine in, plan accordingly. Even the take out area gets to be packed with hungry patrons waiting for their fresh out of the oven, pizza pie to come out. I had not been here in about 15 years but nothing has changed and its still great traditional pizza. The only thing I am not fond of is they put your pizza in white bags, not boxes. I think you can ask for a box which I will do next time, but the bags are pretty flimsy and your toppings can slide off pretty easily while you are driving home....
