I feel like this is a popular local coffee shop chain that I should have tried sooner. It's nice; quite lively. Not at all quiet. More of a hang-out-with-friends coffee shop than a hunker-down-with-your-laptop spot. There was dance music playing on the speakers and lots of chatter. Not a bad thing at all, that's just the vibe here. I got an iced coffee from their specials menu and it hit the spot. I'd get it again except that I don't quite remember its deal. I also got a danish that was fine, but sometimes I feel like this type of coffee shop has a pastry case just to give you the bare minimum to eat while you're drinking what you're really there for. They have a cute patio that feels like someone's back yard, but a lot more seating is available inside. I'm glad I finally tried a Spyhouse and I'll likely return. read more

I'm a spyhouse fan - I come every time I'm in town and have been since 2012 when I first heard of it. However, I would not recommend this specific location. We got a latte and an americano - both had bitter espresso. And for a whole milk latte the milk was not smooth and creamy. We also paid nearly $6 for an overcooked, dry almond croissant. I'm all about supporting small business but this seems like it's expanded into a franchise - chain that doesn't care the way it used to. read more

A Minnesota staple that never gets old. We came back here recently on a trip home visiting family and were not disappointed. The spygirl simply cannot be topped as a lavender latte. I remember having this back in 2014 before lavender was even a popular flavor and they get the balance just right. Really great oat milk matcha lattes (iced) with some delicious pastries! We got the pistachio white chocolate mochi donut and then a yuzu-pecan croissant type of pastry. Both were incredibly delicious! The service was friendly and prompt, we got our order pretty swiftly! This is not the worst but definitely not a place I would return to. I recently moved here and was asking around for some good coffee places. This was recommended so I thought I would try. My bf and I both ordered the Carmella iced. I was expecting the drink to taste a little sweet just because if the caramel. But instead, it tasted like just some iced coffee with milk. And the coffee itself didn't taste like anything special. When going to smaller coffee shops I usually expect smooth coffee but this was not very soothing. The staff also did not seem very friendly or welcoming. Overall the ambience felt off and I felt out of place just sitting here waiting for our drinks. I would not recommend. read more

I feel really bad for giving the Spyhouse, St. Paul location less stars because their espresso drinks were wonderful, but their customer service was really lacking. I greeted the cashier with a nice, "Good Morning!" Didn't get a smile or a response (not that I was expecting one). But you would think that if someone greeted you politely, it would be polite to respond back. We proceed to order. My wife asked for a drip coffee and innocently requested a coffee blend that was intended for a pour over. The cashier quickly replied, "That specific coffee costs more because it takes longer to make." The cashier's overall attitude/tone felt very pretentious. My wife ends up ordering two large drip coffees, I ordered a cortado and a pastry to go. After experiencing the not so warm vibe, we just wanted to get our coffee and leave. Don't get me wrong. The cortado was wonderful! Just enough milk to taste all the wonderful flavors of the shot. Maybe they knew we were not regulars or they knew we were Californians? Just leaves a bad impression when you try to support local cafes that serve great coffee. read more

I normally love Spyhouse and I have only had great experiences at their NE location (I would give that location 5 stars). I will start with why I am not giving this location five stars and following I will share what I think is good about it. The Bad: The reason I am deducting two stars from this review is because I have not once had a friendly interaction with any of the baristas or employees here. My first assumption is usually - am I doing something wrong? But I don't experience this from other Spyhouse locations or other coffee shops. Honestly, I really don't expect a lot - just maybe a greeting or some kind of kind acknowledgement that I'm a customer (or a human being). It's not a "they didn't smile at me" kind of issue. Most interactions I've had with baristas/employees here have made me feel uncomfortable - as though I am inconveniencing them by coming in and ordering something. I get that it is a tough time to be working in the service industry but I always do my best to be extra kind and I always tip no matter what because those are just my principles. I'm not sure if this location is understaffed/overworked or if there is something else going on - but it would go a very long way, in my opinion, if the baristas were a bit more kind/respectful. The Good: While the customer service leaves much to be desired, I cannot deny that the Spygirl latte is one of the best ones out there. At the very least, they have that consistent throughout all locations I've been to. Every latte I have gotten from here has been made well. I also really love the pastries/baked goods that they have to offer from local bakeries. I do really love the interior and aesthetic of this coffee shop. It's similar to other Spyhouse locations in that it's simple but beautiful with lots of wood, plants, and one of a kind pieces of decor. Finally, I must always say that I love and appreciate Spyhouse's commitment to the local community and to sustainability - and that is a big reason why I will continue to support them. read more

My friend and I sat along the window seating which was prime for soaking in the vitamin D Minnesotans have been deprived of as of late. It was sage infused with pecans and came with a little waffle cookie. The staff wasn't very friendly, the lady that took my order didn't even ask me if I wanted my coffee for here or to go so it came in a to go cup when really I wanted it in a mug because we sat there and drank our coffees and chatted for awhile AND they could of saved a wasted cup. Spyhouse coffee is located throughout the city. I stopped at this particular location on Thanksgiving day. I was surprised that it was open. The menu wasn't all that special.
