This place has yummy carnitas, buche, tripitas, tortillas, and pretty much everything behind the counter, that is hand prepared. The meat department has the freshest meat. The crema is amazing and the queso fresco is da bomb!! Their homemade guac with their fresh tortilla chips are fantastic! I am in heaven as I walk through their store! So much fun! I've been going here for years, I live super close by so it's convenient, but let me just tell you, service here is beyond slow, cashiers are always super rude and super unwelcoming . Another thing, I came to buy a cake and ordered it to say happy birthday for my sister, the lady covered the top of the box, but once I got home I saw that it was made by a 3 year old, or at least that's what it looked like , if the lady couldn't do it, she should've said something and had someone else in the bakery section do it . I liked going to this market not only because it was near the house but their fruits and vegetables were extremely cheap. The cheapest prices I've ever seen anywhere! This is a Hispanic market and as an Asian, it was a little odd for me going there alone at times, but it didn't seem to matter. The cashiers would talk to me in Spanish and I would simply tell them that I don't understand. I loved trying the different pan dulces available and trying different chili peppers and Mexican candies. Parking always seems to be busy here but I liked the fact that stayed open late. read more

They are always busy, but when I go they always have more than 5 registers open. They are always fully stocked with everything they carry. They are always friendly and willing to walk you to items that you are looking for. They are very customer oriented which I love. I do wish sometimes they spoke more English, but they typically end up understanding what I ask. read more

Prices were very good. I got at least 6 bags of grocery and only spent $21. We got our daughter a chocolate giant cupcake from the bakery and must say it was delicious! I heard there's nicer stores (the newer ones) so will be going to one of those but overall prices were great and we got carne asada from the meat dept and that was delicious as well. I have been shopping at Cardenas for years but I will no longer shop there. Their fruits and veggies are cheaper then other stores but they are terrible quality. Yellow corn tortillas! Yummy! These are made on a daily basis and oh so good! Our family usually takes a trip up here twice a month and we grab lunch at their in store restaurant while we're at it. My niece lets me know when it's time because she will start asking to go to the store in " Mexico" (because everyone is usually speaking Spanish) to buy pan dulce( sweet bread, so delicious and soft. There's conchas, churros, elotes, etc) and queso fresco( Los Altos brand rocks) They usually have great sales in the produce department , 2 lbs of pasilla chiles for $1, 2 lbs of lime for $1, 10 lbs of oranges for $1, 10 cucumbers for $1, 5 lbs of cantaloupe for $-, etc.... Too much to list. I've only bought meat here a couple of times and it was good. I used it on the same day bought so I am not sure if it "lasts". We buy Jamaica here too to make at home(hibiscus water) and tamarindo(to make tamarind water) so good! Anyway, great store to go to. The area is eh not the best, but I usually go here with my sister in law in broad daylight:-) Best Mexican store I've found in riverside/ San Diego, hope this helps! read more

I was looking for a reasonably priced wedding cake and was recommended by a friend to try Cardenas. My fiance and I went there and the place was packed. We selected a 3 tier cake, each tier on its own pedestal (a refundable deposit for the stands) with a simple icing decoration. The days came to pick up, the cake was not ready but we were offered another cake free if we came back in 1/2 hour. All four cakes were decorated identically, they were ready in plenty of time and were decorated with fresh roses and orchids. All the cakes were different mix and filling were delicious. We still have the top cake in the freezer, but the rest were devoured. The price was amazing, the cakes delicious, and service excellent. I would recommend anyone looking for a cake for any occasion to try Cardenas. read more

If I could give this place a 0 I would. They seem to always have 1 register open and a ton of people in line. Not to mention the people in line have a cart full of items. Staff is so rude and not very helpful. Thank goodness for the new one opening in Temecula. Now I drive 20 minutes our of my way to get better service and friendlier staff. read more
