Tony Kerr is absolutely excellent. Seems incredibly knowledgeable about all parts of an old home: electric, plumbing, roofing, foundation, structural integrity, appliances, grading. Articulate, patient, very thorough. (Getting through his "brogue" may be slightly challenging to those of us who only speak southern.) He may not tell you what you want to hear, but he will have pics to verify everything he finds. He spent about 3+ hours inspecting, and about 30 minutes summarizing his findings to us. My wife and I were buying a home and needed an inspection done. Our real estate agent recommended Tony Kerr of Care Home Inspections. After searching around, what I found was basically this: Tony Kerr of Care Home Inspections has been performing home inspections for more than 12 years. He's been voted top 3 Home Inspectors in Nashville Scene for 3 consecutive years in fact. I found a few other reviews here and there that left me satisfied for trying him out. He was very detailed in his inspection, taking pictures of all the problem spots, highlighting the appropriate areas and providing a very detailed report in the end. Afterwards, he walked us through everything telling us what would need to be an immediate repair, what could be done within a year, 5 years, etc. He was happy to get in tight spots, nooks and crannies, and did a very good job in the end. So good a job that we ended up backing out on the house we were looking at. A couple of months later, we'd found a new house and happy had Tony come by again and run through his inspection. Again, he provided a great amount of detail, tested everything out, and let us know about the problem areas. The important thing is he takes his time during his inspections, looks at everything with great scrutiny, and in the end - as he walks you through - gives an accurate idea of how important certain repairs are, and which ones are cosmetic. read more

As a first-time home buyer (of a very old house), I was a bit nervous about the home inspection process. My realtor suggested someone else, but I did my research and decided on Tony. I am so glad I did. Tony was friendly, detail-oriented, and professional. He tested out every appliance, crawled into tight spots, got on the roof (a lot of home inspectors just look at it through binoculars!), and paid scrupulous attention to details. In the end, he walked us through the entire inspection and helped guide us toward those issues that were high priority or costly items. All in all, I can't recommend him highly enough. Tony Kerr provided a superb unbiased inspection for the 1949 home I ended up buying. I followed him through his inspection in which he was very thorough and had a set system to make sure he detailed all areas. It was easy to see he was very familiar with codes and ultimately he gave a realistic review of what needed work on the home. Would kindly ask potential users of this service to reconsider! He goes WAY beyond what would be considered a professional review. Safety issues and code issues are fine. But, he ranged far and wide in his totally subjective analysis regarding what he "personally" liked and what he didn't like about the subject house. Examples: he took pictures of things that weren't even a part of the house or its construction and said they weren't appropriate. Also, he didn't like the placement of the air vents or electrical outlets. No hazard noted, he just didn't like them? He said the filters needed to be changed even though they were changed 3 weeks ago! There were many other issues he noted without offering any objective reason (other than his personal feeling) nor did he reference specific code or safety issues. He is clearly reviewing things just to make his service look more valuable than it is. Save yourself some time and money - get a friend to come over and list their observations of areas that need to be fixed. You will get a much better feel what is really noteworthy and save yourself a ton of money! read more

From a seller's perspective, I would not allow these people in my home again after the experience I had with them. For starters, when I walked into my home 2 gentlemen were at my kitchen table going over the inspection they had just completed on my home (which was fine), then there was some person making themselves quite at home on my couch(checking out the latest whatever on his phone). I went to put my things away upstairs and upon my return the person on my couch had moved to one of their vehicles where he remained until the inspectors left. That night I went to bed only to wake up at 3 in the morning very cold. My upstairs heating unit was not working. I called my heat/air co. who came to check the unit out. Upon arriving he found the heater door on the attic floor. Most heating units, as mine, have a safety control switch on the door. If the door is not on properly, the heater will not turn on. In this case, the door was not on at all! These were just the major issues I had with this company and their lack of professionalism. If this company were to come to your home, I would strongly suggest you be right there with them through the entire process!!!! read more
