I had been dealing with a skin infection on my face and back and was in between insurances. I was so scared when I went there b/c my face was completely swollen and hurt./Really painful. It turned out to be an allergic reaction to spider bites but at the time I didn't know. Tatiana at the front desk...she was so good with me. she was so empathetic and reassuring. Then I saw Dr. Ngo. I was beside myself and he was great. He gave me the right antibiotics and skin cream and really encouraged me to follow up with a specialist if this didn't go away. The office is super nice/ Clean and the Dr was really smart and effective. I was treated like I really mattered to them. So thankful I found them when I needed them . I was moving a couch and caught my thumb between the couch and a door. It was starting to look pretty gruesome so I decided that I should go to an urgent care facility. I called Care Practice at 9 am (they open at 9:30) and left a message. They called back at 9:45 and made an appointment for 2:30 (awesome). I was with the doctor by 2:50. The doc was personable and efficient. He left the final decision to drain my finger up to me, but provided enough input to make my decision easy. Afterward he gave me a $50 discount for being referred by Yelp and a $25 discount because I work for a non-profit. I've never even heard of a $70 trip to the doc, nevermind been part of one myself. $260 for a prescription that i read out myself, and which was requested by my Chiropractor. it took 5 minutes. my lawyer is less expensive. I was not even asked to check my Xrays. he barely touched my shoulder and that ended being a (quote) "detailed consultation".... I wonder what is the regular one definition. sorry, but no... i was asked to come on a saturday... but no one told me because it was saturday it would cost an extra $85... oups! surprise!!! i could have come any other days. The energy of this place was totally off the moment I went to the back with the doctor. First of all, I confirmed a price (or price range) over the phone and did so again at the receptionist desk. Once I got to the back, I told a completely different price because my problem wasn't considered "urgent" and a regular doctor visit. I felt like the doctor wanted to push a bunch of tests just for more money. Nothing about the doctor's actions seemed very genuine.It was a complete waste of my time and money. As a fellow health care practitioner, I always look for the details when I enter another Dr's office. I was impressed with Care Practice from bow to stern. The staff was professional but laid back. The office was hip and contemporary without being either too sterile or too kitchsy. My Dr. Alex Zaphires, mirrored all of those qualities in a very relaxed and confident manner. I get the feeling that all of the other docs there do as well. Dr. Zaphires was extremely polite and courteous. Respectful of me as both a colleague and a patient. She was able to address my concerns in a timely but thorough fashion, and I left feeling like I had found something really special. I live in Walnut Creek, so coming here was kinda a schlep. But that only shows how great this place was, to make me feel like "no, I didn't just waste a day for a half hour appointment!" If I weren't so ethical I would consider stealing their front desk people and hire them to work mine! But, alas... I'm not that kinda' guy. Care Practice is AMAZING. I am so glad I found them. I didn't know there was a local Lyme Doctor in San Fran: Dr. Andrew Brandeis who is with Care Practice is compassionate, bright and highly skilled in Naturopathic Medicine, IV Vitamin Infusion treatment, Lyme Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The skin on my hands and face had started to peel off in layers and leave behind bad infections. I never had skin problems in my life and your face is what you show to the world right? I was also having fatigue, intestinal problems, insomnia and depression. For 6 months, Kaiser misdiagnosed and mismanaged me with drugs that just made my symptoms worse. I went to specialists at UCSF, but I felt like I needed the doctor from House. I finally found Dr. Brandeis at Care Practice in San Francisco and within a week, things started to turn around. He looked at my blood work and was able to discover that I had a severe nutrient absorption problem due to a gastric bypass surgery. He started me on IV Vitamin treatment, herbs, supplements and the right medications while continuing to investigate my illness. Dr. Brandeis was amazing to me; I had felt like a monster and was not leaving the house because of how I looked. Until a few weeks ago, I was tired, nauseated and lifeless. Dr. Brandeis did more in 1 week than Kaiser or UCSF specialists did in 6 months. He, above any of the 10 Doctors that I saw, was able to see what was going on with me. My skin started to heal within the first week of IV Vitamin Therapy. My other symptoms have yet to fully resolve so he wants to keep investigating to get to the bottom of my strange illness. I've suspected chronic Lyme disease this whole time, and I've finally found a doctor who agrees with me. I had explained to him that I had been off work b/c I deal with the public in a highly visible role to Senior Management. As a result, Care Practice allowed me to defer payment to when/if I got a job. Dr. Brandeis was truly more concerned about my health than my ability to pay for treatment. A few short weeks after starting treatment, I was well enough to interview for 2 jobs with Google and a top consulting firm; and received offers from both...I never thought in a million years I could accept those interviews when they contacted me..I looked like death. The IV Vitamin treatment and plan that Dr. Brandeis created for me saved my life and restored me back to my self. I am so grateful to him. I owe him so much and I feel to do that is share this story with others. For the first time in 6 months, I'm starting to feel normal again. Recently I found myself "In between" health care coverage and with a TERRIBEL Migraine, I called Care Practice at 11:00 am and was able to get an appointment at 12:30!!!! I walked into the appointment with little knowledge of the place but was very pleasantly surprised. I waited only 10 minutes for my appointment and only had to fill out one sheet of paperwork. I saw Dr. Andrew Brandeis who was wonderful!!! He spent a great deal of time with me and took super good care of me! I have had Kaiser my whole life and never new any better and now with a taste of the good life I may just reconsider my health care options. read more

I arrived to San Francisco traveling from Ireland at the end of August. This city is fantastic - so much fun stuff to do. So during my first week I was getting out and about as much as my legs could handle those hills! On one of those evenings as I was cycling home from the beach, the wheel of my bike got caught in the tracks for the cable cars on Market Street and I was launched through the air landing with a heavy thud on the ground. My boyfriend had told me that if I ever needed to find out anything about this city, I should use Yelp and this was how I found out about Dr Blackledge at CP. Thank God I did! It was about 8PM when I gave him a call. I didn't want to jump to conclusions but I had a feeling that I would need stitches since there was what I can only describe as a small pot-hole in my chin! Dr. Blackledge was so patient - I couldn't make it to his surgery until 9PM yet he was so understanding and didn't act put-out in the least. I'm very squeamish and at the time was fairly shook but after a short time I realized he really knew what he was doing and so I calmed down. He spent about an hour taking care to put in 11 neat stitches with the thinnest suture (thread). As I was taking holidays the following day down to Santa Barbara, Dr. Blackledge suggested that it would be fine to have the stitches removed at a different practice. The staff at that practice all commented on the great job that had been done by Dr Blackledge. As a final note, I really appreciated the follow call he made to ensure all was healing well and there were no problems. Thank you so much for the great care Dr. Blackledge. read more

I cannot recommend this medical practice. I went there with severe intestinal problems that I picked up while travelling. Dr. Ngo, while nice, suggested I return to my regular doctor as soon as possible. He offered to sell me supplements to improve my digestion. For this he charged $180. When I got to see my regular doctor a week later, he responded as a REAL doctor would: he put me on Cipro. My symptoms disappeared in three days. This is at best a naturapthic practice and at worst a complete ripoff. read more

I helped a friend in his yard (note to self: never do that again!) and came down with the worst case of poison oak I've ever had. Dr. Vinh Ngo at Care Practice helped me out...on a Saturday, without a wait, and with no appointment! Pretty amazing, really, in this age of medical care making you feel more like a number than a human being. I had a follow up a few days later. Dr. Ngo was off that day, so I wondered if I'd get the same treatment from another Care Practice physician. I'm happy to say Dr. Aaron Blackledge took great care of me too. And again, no appointment, no wait, and very personal service. The office is clean, soothing and hip. I'm a healthcare practitioner myself, so I really appreciate what it takes to put such a great practice together. I can't recommend Care highly enough. I really liked this place, so much so I wish I could go to the doctor here rather than in LA where I live! I went in very last minute for a problem that I have had many times before, and Dr. Brandeis asked me more and different questions than anyone ever has before. He seemed truly interested in getting the root of my problem rather than just treating the symptoms, which no one has ever done before. He also gave me antibiotics plus some herbal mixes and probiotics to take for my issue. I appreciated that he was thinking out of the box and trying to solve my issue from various angles. I also appreciated that there were no nurses and waiting in the exam room for 30 minutes for someone to come in. He got me straight from the waiting room into the exam room and we started talking immediately. The office has a casual feel, there were a few awkward things about it, but generally I felt very comfortable. Their no insurance policy was kind of a bummer, but the prices seemed reasonable and the care seemed worth it. I would absolutely make this my regular doctors office if I lived in San Francisco. read more

The doctor on call was great, he answered all my questions and was helpful with my concerns regarding insurance. this is a fantastic re-approach to medicine. the staff members i have seen there were professional and managed NOT to have that uncomfortable and too common attitude of "i'm-a-doctor-and-you're-not". i hurt my knee on a sunday afternoon, couldn't walk and couldn't afford an ambulance. i called a friend to come and get me and remembered that care practice provides house calls. i called them and dr. ngo even offered to pick me up on his way to my place. when my friend got me home. dr. ngo was there and rode up in the elevator with us and began treating me there because of the tremendous pain i was in. i highly recommend them. read more

After calling about 10 different doctors in the city only to be told that I could not get an appointment for a couple of weeks to a month, I came across Care Practice online. I called around 11 am and got an appointment for 1 pm. I only had to wait a few minutes, and that was because I was early. Dr. Cooper was very thorough. Buyer Beware! This practice does not accept insurance. They tell you so right up front, which is very good. What they may not tell you is how much your visit is going to cost. My girlfriend got burned to the tune of $240 for 30 minutes of doctor time(that's right - almost $500 per hour!). In return she got her temperature and blood pressure checked, and was told to obtain some labs and return with the results. I think not. Moral: No harm is asking in advance what you are going to have to pay for the visit. Note I said visit, not treatment, as in this case there was none. read more

My wife and I had a great experience at the care practice clinic. We were able to get an appointment the same day. Dr. Vinh Ngo was great and very attentive to all our questions. He made sure he gave us all the medicine my wife needed for her condition at that time. Shes now doing perfectly well after one week of seeing him. I had an excellent experience recently with Care Practice. The other night I had a meal that didn't agree with me. I was really sick for hours and thought I may need medical attention. I called Care Practice since I knew they had doctors on call 24/7. This 24/7 availability alone is something to yelp about let alone the service I received that night. Dr. Vinh Ngo was on-call and gave me some good advice as to how I should handle my condition. Soon I was asleep and after a follow up phone call the next day I was on my way to recovery. I don't know what would have happened if I didn't have Dr. Ngo to talk to that night. He really saved the day so to speak.....or should I say the night. A doctor available at 4:00 in the morning to help with your urgent medical needs is 5 stars in my book. Thank Care Practice. read more

I went here after a MONTH of being sick, then better, then sick, then better and considering its nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find a PCP this was my last option. 1st complaint-what a pain to get to! no direct bus line, no parking, in fact when i asked a nearby business, they had NO clue on which was I should be going....annoying REAL ANNOYING. however i get to this place and its cute/modern inside, my wait time was minimal, i totally understood paying EVERYTHING up front, so that was not a surprise. i get called to go back, and see one of the dr.s, i tell her my symptoms, she looks bewildered and confused like im speaking russian or something. after she takes my temp (102.9), looks at my eyes/nose/throat (never by blood pressure/heart rate), and decides i have a virus, and cannot gibe me anything for it...GREAT there goes $300 bucks. so here i am a few days later not getting any better, if anything getting worse, as in i HAVE to go to the ER @cpmc, where it is found that not only am i dehydrated, but i also have a pretty obvious case of PNEUMONIA!!!!! wow how does a doctor miss that?!?!?!? so something that could/should have been caught by this place had to be diagnosed by the EMERGENCY ROOM. all in all this place is a joke and terrible for charging what they do especially for the absolutely HORRENDOUS services....never again read more

Name should be the "Don't Care Practice". This place is the worst. The "doctor" wears sweat pants. Sweat pants! I was given virtually zero instruction or guidance. My appt was 15 min long, 10 of which was spent listening to the "doctor" talk about how he knows the uber CEO which, surprisingly, does nothing for my recovery. This is nothing more than a "pay for script" office. I had emergency surgery 3 weeks after my appt and could not for the life of me get a phone call or txt or email from the doctor in regards to what I need to do with my meds during surgery, etc. Lastly, this place has some serious HIPAA violations. I can hear EVERYTHING happening in the patient room from the waiting room. Probably because the "doctor" doesn't even close the door when he's with a patient! If all you're looking for is a script then this place might be fine for you. If you're looking for ANYTHING else, such as guidance, suggestions, instruction, or anything else, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Holey Moley. I always mean to give my opinions back to yelp after all the advice I take -- and this is one of the only times I've been motivated to do so. What a dream! I have to admit, I had all sorts of visions in my head of what an urgent care in the Mission would be like. So, what a surprise when I walked in and felt like I was in a spa. It makes me wonder why other doctors' offices insist on being so poorly decorated. There were no other patients there waiting and spreading their germs, because they are appointment only. They require you to pay at the time of service and then deal with your own insurance company - so who knows if I'll get reimbursed - but when you're sick, who cares! The doc was great - took his time and sent me off with antibiotics. I was back home within an hour. I love this place! Love having you in the hood Care Practice - may you live long and thrive and reproduce (so if I ever move out of the city, I can still go to a Care Practice)! read more

i've only been moved to write one yelp review before, but my trip to care practice just now left me pretty deflated. i've always been relieved when a doctor doesn't ask me a bunch of questions that aren't relevant but i know that they're supposed to ask anyway. i would never presume to know more than my medical professionals, but i am a proactive, informed patient, and really only go to the doctor when i have a pretty good idea of what's wrong with me and what treatment i need. but when i went in today to get a new prescription for my asthma inhaler, my doctor hardly asked any questions (whether or not i was currently having symptoms, and whether or not i had a primary physician) and didn't seem even to look at my chart. he was writing a script almost as soon as we got in the exam room and the entire time i felt like my presence was getting in his way. i didn't feel like i had the opportunity to get out a full sentence, and i definitely didn't have a chance to ask any questions. after half an hour of waiting to be seen (which is common and to be expected, but would have gone over better with at least a word of explanation or apology), my appointment lasted ONE MINUTE; at a cost of $95, that was essentially a $5700/hour appointment. for that money, at least give me 5 or 10 minutes of face time. this isn't an ER, it's concierge medicine; i wish my doctor had been able to take an extra 5 seconds to treat me like a person, and an extra 25 seconds to treat me like a patient. read more

I went here twice to get a script for similar medication I take in my home country. The first time I had an appointment in the morning, was asked to move to the afternoon probably because the original Doctor wanted to go to Napa. I had an important investor call at 3pm, fine except I was seen 45 minutes late and stressing my face off as I was still in my consultation blood pressure rising at 2:58pm worrying I'm being rude to my investor. I was given pamphlets and a newer medication probably because of the referral kickback that was not really accessible to me ($300 and I don't have US medical insurance) and was ultimately running around in circles all afternoon. The second visit a few months later, I had to sit and listen to the doctor for 45 minutes about "the system", America's pharmacy drug epidemic and him covering his ass and how he has his own medical startup upstairs. Then on a whim he decides I should only get 60% strength of what I usually take. Seriously $175 each time to fill a script and get stressed out. These people operate as if time and money grows on trees for them to pick at their convenience. Won't be going back. read more
