The hospital told me this was the highest‑rated option, and I pushed hard to get her admitted. It is now one of my biggest regrets. From the moment she arrived, I received constant calls -- sometimes every hour -- of her crying hysterically. On her very first day, she called because she had accidentally used the bathroom on herself. With two broken legs, she couldn't get up and didn't even realize it had happened. Instead of helping her, the nurse aide yelled at her and accused her of doing it on purpose. Her roommate confirmed this. I reported it to management, and nothing was done. Soon after, she was placed on a bedpan and left sitting in her own waste for an hour. When I called the front desk to get someone to help her, staff went into her room only to tell her it "hadn't been an hour" and that she "needed a watch" if she wanted to tell time correctly. Again, her roommate confirmed this happened. Another incident: while changing my mother, a nurse pulled on the blanket so hard that she fell onto my mother's roommate. Later, when my mother politely said, "Please be careful, I don't want you to fall," that same nurse claimed she no longer felt "safe" around my mother and refused to care for her at all. I eventually drove 15 hours across the country to see my mother and scheduled a meeting with the case worker/social worker, PT, OT, and nursing staff. By the time I arrived, she had been there two weeks -- and had not received a single bath or shower. During the meeting, the case worker refused to look up from her computer, claiming she was "typing notes," though she was clearly just scrolling. Every concern we raised was dismissed. When I explained that staff were refusing to help my mother, I was told, "Well, she made the nurse uncomfortable." Apparently saying "Please be careful" is now grounds for withholding care. I asked why my mother had a Foley catheter. They said, "She wanted it." Since when is a patient's casual request enough to insert a catheter with no medical basis? I pointed out multiple errors in her chart -- including listing her as stage 4 kidney disease when she is stage 3, and failing to note her stage 4 liver failure. I was told I "misread it." I raised concerns about her worsening tremors and stutter and was told, "Oh, that's her medications, we'll just lower the dose." I also emphasized that I am her next of kin and healthcare POA, yet I had received zero communication. Even after I left, she stayed another month without a single update from staff. In the month and a half she was there, she received one bath. One. She repeatedly told staff that her incision didn't look right and that something felt like it was poking out of her left leg. She was ignored. We later learned that a screw in her leg is literally coming out -- and her incision sites are infected. On multiple occasions, I was on the phone with her when staff brought medications. She would ask if her pain medication was included, and they would say yes. She would check, and it wasn't. When she pointed it out, they would respond, "Oh, I need to see when you last had it." Shouldn't that be checked before handing out medications? My mother was repeatedly spoken to as if she were stupid. I had to remind them that she has worked in healthcare for over 30 years. Every time I filed a grievance, her treatment got slightly worse. Yet when I was physically present, staff tried to paint her as the problem. I know my mother -- she can be a handful -- but when multiple patients report the same issues, there is only one common denominator, and it is not her. I would not trust this facility to care for my sick dog, let alone my mother. I will never allow her to return here.

My body felt the ick from the cleanliness of the place. 15-minute check-ins were pre-filled out and not actually executed. No one checked on my grandmother even when she buzzed for a nurse to get help to go to the bathroom. On top of that, when my grandma had to get herself to the bathroom alone (which they should be more on top of anyways), she finds someone. else's. blood. covering the shared bathroom TWICE. She notified the workers, and the mess was still not cleaned up for hours on end. Additionally, one worker was rude to her when she expressed her need to go to the bathroom, claiming that if she really needed to go that bad she could walk and do it herself. I would NEVER wish this place upon anyone.

While there are exceptions, staff can be very rude, defensive, flippant, deflecting. US News quality reviews very inaccurate & misleading from what we've witnessed. Terrible. Heartbreaking Experience…read more I honestly wouldn't recommend this Rehab to anyone. The staff here move incredibly slow and seem overwhelmed all the time. Most of the nurses are retired and just don't have the energy or attentiveness that patients need. There are no staff doctors, only nurse practitioners, and it feels like there's no real leadership or plan in place for anything. There's no protocol for emergencies -- during a fire alarm, everyone looked confused about what to do. We also had two power outages in one week, and instead of fixing the issue or using proper backup power, they handed out battery-operated LED lights to patients. It was honestly shocking.Language barrier is an issue especially when reciting the menu options The worst part is how long it takes to get help. I've seen patients left sitting in their own feces for up to 40 minutes before anyone came. No one deserves that. It breaks my heart to see people treated this way when they're supposed to be cared for and respected in their later years. This place seriously needs to be inspected and held accountable. Families deserve better, and so do the people living here.

The skill they showed helped me 100% become independent enough to dress myself, walk with the walker, shower and wash myself. I entered Genesis scared and nervous because I did not know what to expect, and I left feeling confident that I could go on with my PT at home because of the good start I got at Genesis. In addition, the nurses, Amanda, Pam, Barbara, Krista, Eileen, Nkasa, in addition to others, and aides such as Yanick and Marie were more helpful in my recovery than they could have imagined. Some of the aides were not as nice or helpful as they should have been, but the other staff made up for their lack of helpfulness or compassion. Overall I would go there again and I would send anybody I know who needs rehab to stay and get the help they need. In addition, the Genesis is clean and has a pleasant atmosphere. They clean the bathrooms and rooms daily. It was so hot while I was there and I woke up to ice water every morning. And, the aides would provide you with ice water or whatever you wanted when you needed it. The food was not bad either. A pleasant place to recover and overall a good place to be if you need rehab and need to be taken care of. Thank you Genesis! Elaine Tordiglione

At my wit's end, their appeal to caring for the caregiver immediately caught my attention! I filled out the questionnaire and got a quick response from the owner who completely understood my circumstance and knew he could help. And that's just what happened. Within days, FirstLight had identified someone who might be a good fit and she was. Then the pandemic hit and having someone to watch my loved one when I couldn't was invaluable. Unfortunately, that person changed careers and it did take some time to find another good fit, but that new fit was extraordinary. All through the months I worked with FirstLight, they were accessible by phone and definitely on the job in terms of questions or concerns. They are a small agency, which I like, but it can take a bit to find just the right person and for them to be available to a new client. Communication between the alternate caregiver, who was experienced in elder care and familiar with hospice, was direct and consistent. Both Admin and Ownership were always on the other end of the phone. It was a pleasure to find FirstLight, even so late in our journey but they made the final few months easier. Highly recommended!
