My grandmother has been using Abernathy (formerly How's Work) for two years. My grandmother had two strokes, two years ago, and to prevent her from going into a nursing home, our family acquired 24/7 home services. The experience with Abernathy has been anything but pleasant. My grandmother lives alone and I started staying with her to prevent excess stress. My grandmother has limited function in her body. There have been multiple incidents of missed medications, no observation (she showered alone and was sent to the ER as a result of bruised ribs), no offering of food or water, employees ignoring her pleas for help, employees sleeping on the job everyday (even now as I type this), excess phone use, employee yelling, lack of professional boundaries, and so much more. If you care about your family members wellbeing, please go through another agency! I've had to report multiple aids using their emergency phone line. Nothing has changed nor improved!

At my wit's end, their appeal to caring for the caregiver immediately caught my attention! I filled out the questionnaire and got a quick response from the owner who completely understood my circumstance and knew he could help. And that's just what happened. Within days, FirstLight had identified someone who might be a good fit and she was. Then the pandemic hit and having someone to watch my loved one when I couldn't was invaluable. Unfortunately, that person changed careers and it did take some time to find another good fit, but that new fit was extraordinary. All through the months I worked with FirstLight, they were accessible by phone and definitely on the job in terms of questions or concerns. They are a small agency, which I like, but it can take a bit to find just the right person and for them to be available to a new client. Communication between the alternate caregiver, who was experienced in elder care and familiar with hospice, was direct and consistent. Both Admin and Ownership were always on the other end of the phone. It was a pleasure to find FirstLight, even so late in our journey but they made the final few months easier. Highly recommended!

Also if you are only english speaking this is the wrong company for you, all workers I had could barley speak any english, One time while I was leaving for work they surprised me with a new aide, I had only ten minutes to show her around my house, she had actually took out her cell phone so I could explain to her boyfriend who was on the other end to translate. I have nothing against anyone who cant speak english, but when your customer is english I would think it is appropriate to have a english speaking aide. I also forgot to add that the Sunday I called to find out there was no aide coming, I asked if they could provide anyone to help and they replied it was Dominican Day so there was no workers available, so much for caring for the elderly. Things started going downhill on his 1st day there. The halls are empty - I always wondered where the nurses were. He was admitted at 2 pm and at 6:30 pm, his nurse had no information about him: the "supervisor" hadn't entered his info in their computer system. The only good nurse he had was Janet. His IV meds were often late and they took a long time to respond to his call light. My husband said some of the evening nurses would ask him "what are you here for?" Guess they don't review the patients' charts. The CNAs, however, were great! I would not send anyone here ever!!! Nursing care is almost nonexistent. I had two workers from ABC Homecare in 2021, from February to May. The First homemaker went…read moreshopping and was supposed to help with homemaking. When asked to vacuum,, this worker started slamming the interior doors quite forcefully. She also began ti slam the front door whenever she left. I began to feel frightened. I asked for someone else. The second person the company sent, arrived with a supervisor and I was told she was a Personal Care Assistant. She said we ad worked at 2 local nursing homes, but didn't fit in and was not given enough hours of work. After a few months, M. said she was leaving the ABC Homecare Agency because they did not give her a sufficient number of hours each week. The next to the last Friday that M. came to my home, I noticed that over $500.00 in cash was missing. The following Tuesday, when she came I told her about the missing money and that I had left the door unlocked so she could get into the house when returning with groceries. M. then told me that another woman on the same street as I lived had someone come in and take money when the door was not locked. The following Friday, M. called to say her grandmother had died and she would not be coming. I called the agency to ask if another worker could come the following Tuesday to grocery shop. The agency was not aware M. had not come to my home that day. I reported the theft of my money to the agency the following week and also to Senior Care. Several days later I questioned ABC again about M.'s possible theft of my cash and they said they would report the theft to Massachusetts Department of Professional licensing Bureau. That was the extent of any assistance they offered; ABC Homecare Agency, The Police Department or Senior Care. I paid copays for the assistance I received through Senior Care. Isn't there anyway I can get my money back from one of the agencies who were responsible for sending this person into my home? It does not seem fair. Governor Charles Baker stated of television that his administrations had taken excellent care of the elders in our state through the pandemic. This was just early in June. Senior meals of Wheels have become very poor in quality during the pandemic. Other services have suffered from substantially reduced quality. Unhappy and Robbed

We have worked with Always here since early 2020 to assist my 101 yr old mum. She gets around well for her age, she has become quite forgetful and needs more and more assistance.
