We had just finished lunch, but since we were already exploring Montmartre, we decided to stop by Carette because it's one of those places almost everyone recommends, especially for its famous hot chocolate. Since it was a warm summer afternoon, I went for the Chocolat Glacé, their iced chocolate, which was a refreshing choice after walking around the neighborhood. We were too full to try any of the pastries, but the display was beautiful and made it very tempting to come back. In addition to their signature hot chocolate, they also offer a wonderful selection of French pastries, macarons, croissants, crêpes, and other sweet treats. One thing that's helpful to know before visiting is that the Montmartre branch is a takeaway pastry boutique rather than a full-service café or restaurant. Before arriving, I had imagined it would be more of a traditional Parisian tea salon with table service, but this location is designed for grabbing a drink or pastry to enjoy while exploring Place du Tertre. Knowing that beforehand helps set the right expectations. The staff member who assisted us at the counter was friendly and welcoming, making for a pleasant stop. The location itself is part of the experience. Right in the heart of Place du Tertre, surrounded by artists and the charm of Montmartre, it's an easy place to pop into for a sweet break while sightseeing. If you're visiting during the warmer months, I'd definitely recommend the iced chocolate. And if you have a bigger appetite than we did, the pastry selection looked impressive enough to make me want to return just for dessert. read more

Stopped by Carette's Montmartre location after touring the neighborhood and it was the perfect break. The pain au chocolat and croissant were both exceptional--buttery, flaky, and incredibly fresh. Unlike some of Paris' more famous cafés, we didn't encounter any lines, which made the experience even more enjoyable. That said, this is a relatively small location, and I can easily see it getting busy with long queues during peak hours--perhaps we just got lucky with our timing. Service was quick and pleasant, and the relaxed atmosphere was a welcome respite after exploring Montmartre. A great spot for classic French pastries. read more

While walking around Montmartre in Paris, France we stumbled upon this cute little bakery, tearoom and Creperie. I had the Strawberry Chocolate Crepe 7.50 euro. They make it right in front of you. It was so delicious and a real treat. We ate standing at a table. A real Parisian delight. read more

This place was a little hyped with a little bit of a line but it went rather fast. The hot chocolate was a highlight and even my boyfriend who isn't a fan of hot chocolate enjoyed it. The crepe and fruit was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The scrambled eggs with salmon was quite good. I had read that this was one of the best hot chocolates in Paris. We happened to be walking in Montmartre when I spotted Carette. Our little one was just asking for a snack so it was perfect timing. I ordered him a hot chocolate. It was very mediocre. It wasn't that hot and was a bit chalky. It tasted like any other hot chocolate out of a packet I've ever had. Plus the place was in dire need of repairs. It was pure chaos inside with stacked furniture and broken floor tiles ripped up. You couldn't get to the back half of the cafe, so it was essentially a to-go stall. I'm not really faulting them for this. I assume they were or planning to do repairs I guess. However, I am faulting them for this subpar hot chocolate. Skip this overrated place and go to Angelina which is far superior and worth the hype.. read more

A well deserved snack break for those who scaled the stairs to Sacré-Cœur. Although we didn't opt for the hot chocolate as it was too hot and humid outside we did stop for a sugar crepe and pistachio gelato! You order inside and get a special ticket for both the crepe and gelato windows. Make sure you hold onto your ticket as you need it to redeem your order. We might have misplaced our ticket for a while and fumbled around while we watched others get their sweet treats. The sugar crepe was VERY sweet once you hit the bottom of the crepe which you can imagine has all the sugar accumulated. The crepe skin wasn't too thick but I would have preferred a slightly crispy skin. The pistachio gelato had a pretty good flavor and wasn't overpoweringly sweet which was a nice relief from the crepe. Overhyped and not great. I left disappointed. We go the hot chocolate with whipped cream and I couldn't drink much of it before my stomach started to hurt. Also got a croissant that was disappointing (tasted old). Lastly got a jamón and frommage crepe that was grainy. I think they put salt in it? But the crepe itself was some sort of wheat flour that tasted odd. Overall disappointed. And be aware that this is NOT a sit down restaurant. Chain of bakeries. We probably didn't choose the best location to try. This spot was suuuuuper touristy. It sits in the heart of one of the busiest tourist spots in Montmarte. It was very very crowded when we visited. The line to order stretched well into the street, as did the separate line to pick up crepes. There were a couple of tables to stand at with your order, but given the crowd, that wasn't nearly enough. The vast majority of customers had to grab their food and go. And, since the plaza this locations sits in is packed with vendors and tourists shopping, there's really no place to grab a bench or sit along a curb. Its just wall to wall people. During our visit, the staff was fine, but not friendly. I got the sense they were on autopilot cranking through the loads of customers. Our food was fine, but not great. We ordered a quiche, which was supposed to be warmed, but was chilly in the center. We ordered a chocolate croissant, which was actually fairly decent. We also ordered two batches of crepes, both were fine, but not as good as some of the others we had in Paris. We ordered espresso drinks to wash things down...all were fine. Maybe this location used to be great. Maybe we chose a bad spot. Or maybe we went on a bad day. Nevertheless, we probably won't go back. But, maybe others will like it more than we did. They kept sending 3, 4 ppl inside without any explanation. We told him we can separate into smaller tables, ignored us . The kids were freezing and we told him we can sit outside and we can get a seat . He told us it's not possible anymore and we can wait all we want. We stumbled upon Carette after visiting Sacré-Cœur, tucked away in a little square you'd almost miss it if you were solely looking for a larger cafe. My boyfriend wanted crepes so we decided to have them here and they were delicious!!! I enjoyed a latte and purchased some of the most delicious macaroons in all of France from this Carette location. There are other larger, sit down locations in the city. Had I known the macaroons would be so perfect (I didn't try them until we were at the airport and ready to fly home) I would have purchased many, many more. The macaroons are why I'm rating them 5 STARS, they really are SO delightful! Friendly service early Friday morning when we stopped in. Missed the other reviews that said the hot chocolate was meh. Correct. You can skip the hot chocolate but the crepe and macarons were good. Got the salted caramel crepe and it was amazing although the cinnamon sugar was weird, in particular the cinnamon. The salted caramel was so intense though, I needed a plate not the little paper wrapper. The macaron special was passionfruit chocolate and the passionfruit was soooo good. The hazelnut one was meh. Thought it'd be more Nutella like but eh. Still great snacks. Super close to the sacre coer so stop by and pick some up. read more
