I came here for lunch with 2 other people. This wouldn't have been my first choice to eat because it's right across from a major train station, but I wasn't the one picking. I ordered the French onion soup (totally bland), a side salad (inedible), and fries (indescribably disappointing). I also ordered the St. Germaine Spritz, which was surprisingly good. The service was quick and the waiters weren't overly friendly, but that's to be expected. The ambiance was what you would expect for a busy restaurant across from a large train station. I really like this place. Bien Sur, I am no connoisseur of French cuisine but I can attest from a foreigner's perspective that this is definitely one of the best ones I've had in Paris. Located right by Gare du Nord it is alway busy but very convenient to grab a bite while you're waiting for your train, late night stroll to get some food, and the food is always good. Language barrier is not huge- you'll be ok if you don't speak French. They are very patient and friendly here. Food also comes out decently fast for a French place which can take 30 mins-1hr depending on how busy it gets Their steak tartare is well made and melts in your mouth- the right blend of sour with the onions. Definitely must call this if you're in France and trying to find something very French you won't find in other countries I think their Moules Frites was the best I've had around in Paris Call the Escargot if you've never had the snails before- for those who wonder what these guys taste like they are chewy scallops or chewy clams. No slime. their Poulet was also excellent- well seasoned and the flavor is inside the meat after being baked. If you like chicken, get this dish French pastas aren't known for tomato based- think a light creamy buttery sauce paired with chopped up smoke salmon or chorizo which I highly recommend ordering if you like a pasta dish Their Grog is my fav so far in the Grogs I've called around Paris. Some places make it super hard flavored and others make it too diluted but this place seems to make it just right. read more

I have to say this place is placed well, but it felt overpriced and like the waiter did not like having to wait on non French-speaking people. We came here yesterday afternoon, and after being seated and looking over the menu, we ordered a carafe of wine to share and a coke. Instead of bringing it out in a container with ice to keep it cold, he brought it with a small jar of ice. When he filled my glass, he splattered me with a little. Not sure if he didn't realize it, but he didn't apologize. We were seated outdoors and got to people watch, as the afternoon crowds were still walking by and we were seated near the sidewalk . This cafe is conveniently located right across from the Nord station for train travelers. Going to different cafès we stumbled on this place after searching high and low for a decent one. After reviewing the menu several times, I finally opted for the baked chicken and French fries which seemed like a weird combination but I went for it anyway. And I am glad that I did because that thing was slamming! I don't know what they put in that sauce that the put in the chicken, but it was absolutely astounding. I was too scared to try anything more unique to Paris that was on the menu; I ended up getting the burger. And even though it looks plain, I was really impressed with it. My family and I (4 adults) dined here 3 times during our recent visit to Paris due to the proximity to our hotel (Hotel Whistler), and the train station (Gare du Nord) and all we can say is it was a wonderful experience! The servers were wonderful and personable and even though there was a bit of a language barrier, there was no miscommunication. The manager/co-owner was also happy to take time out and get to know us as travelers, but also loved joking around with us, even during a busy night. Of course the food was exquisite and the wine was plentiful, while prices are quite reasonable. The menu has English translations and it's easy to know what you're getting. The traditional Cassoulet was a favorite amongst us, while the steak, chicken and lamb chops are all top notch. Highly highly recommend! read more

Despit this restaurant being located directly in front of the train station, wait staff definitely provide better and friendly service to french speaking individuals. Tourists don't get the good service, never asked me if food was OK or if I needed anything. Even to get the check, I had to holler. Food was average, bread basked had mostly ends that were hard. Located across the street from Gard du Nord train station, it's an easy walk for an incredible experience. If your nervous about French dining, the staff was very friendly and helpful to English speakers, and menus are available in both French and English. Getting in the spirit of trying new things, I picked a drink from the menu that I had never tried before. As I went to take a sip, the waiter frantically rushed over and explained the I would want to cut the drink with water and ice. Another waiter nearby explained that the drink was very strong, and that to sip it alone would taste awful. They were completely right. Even with the ice and water, I probably wouldn't order that again. But still, the waiter was friendly about it. And it was a worthwhile experience. To continue trying new things, my husband and I decided to order the escargots (snails). WOW! They were amazing. The bourbon garlic sauce was incredible and left us wanting more. If you ever have the chance, try them. We also ordered mussels, and they were equally as good. With the friendly staff, convenient location, and excellent food, you simply can't go wrong. As I had about an hour to spare before returning to London and I'd failed to have a duck dish while in Paris on this trip, I took a chance on one of the multiple eateries that lined the Rue de Dunkerque immediately outside Gare du Nord. It was a gamble that paid off though, as I'd plumped for a place that realised that speed and efficiency were likely to be very important factors and delivered very well on that criteria. My duck dish was rapidly presented and well accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes and a lovely glass of Beaujolais, all for less than 20 Euros, service included. DO NOT come to this horrendous restaurant. We got terrible service to begin with when we were seated but never got served. The other tables after us immediately got service and their order taken. When we finally flagged down our waiter he had an attitude and our drink were brought out another 10 minutes later. We were really trying to enjoy this restaurant but had countless problems. The food came out wrong and I had stems all in my salad. When my friends food finally came out it, the chicken and potatoes were cold. I couldn't enjoy my food without having to pick stems out from the salad and my friend was eating cold, chewy chicken. We informed the waiter and the manager came in attacking us. We paid for our meal without receiving any compensation, not even an apology. As we walked out the manager, or a man with pale skin and a beard spit at us as he shut the door on us. Seated, I enjoyed a nice view of the majestic Gare du Nord station exterior across the street, which a lot of people don't ever actually see. I actually only came here because I needed to use the toilet, but to use the toilet I had to sit down and order something, so I sat down and ordered a crepe and a coffee. The service was typically Parisien, so rude and in a hurry. The crepe was nothing to write home about and the coffee was the same poor standard of coffee I have come to expect all over France. The toilet was reasonably clean though, at least that's a bonus! The place was full or tourists who all seemed to be having a good time. I have nothing particularly against this place, but I wouldn't go there again unless I was in the same emergency as I was the first time! Hopefully next time they will have finished the refurbishment work inside Gare du Nord station (which is opposite this restaurant) and I won't have to look elsewhere to use the toilet! read more

Pretty confused as to how this place isn't ranked higher! I was in Paris for 4 days and was just a block away from Gare du Nord. I spent each day wandering for a good bite of food but I ended up coming here for one meal each day I was there! The food was great, I got the traditional French breakfast, the pesto pasta, and the tomato pasta they offer. Each time had a glass of recommended white wine. I have to say the food was great, quick, and to the point. Nothing too frilly and I got exactly what I expected. The service was fantastic. I ended up having the same server each time I went there, and I wasn't mad about it at all! He was incredibly helpful and helped me become a bit more confident in my French.
