If you have a straightforward, mild condition, Dr. Karnani is perfectly polite. However, if you have a complex autoimmune presentation or a severe flare, I cannot recommend him. He lacks the clinical curiosity and willingness to investigate complex symptoms when standard, basic lab work comes back normal. During a severe autoimmune flare involving intense, bone-deep pain (7-9/10) in my left femur, Dr. Karnani repeatedly dismissed my symptoms as simple muscle aches and told me to take ibuprofen. He stated that steroids are only to be used when absolutely necessary. When I noted that a previous, undocumented response to steroids he had provided for flare-related urticaria was suggestive of a systemic inflammatory issue, he initially refused a prescription, later calling in a 10mg dose of Prednisone that was inadequate and left me shaking from pain for a week. When his office finally saw me in person, I took immediate action and explicitly terminated our patient-provider relationship, notifying him that I had already contacted UCLA and would no longer require his services because he was not listening to me. Only after I fired him, and after he looked through a medical packet I had compiled myself, did he casually state that my symptoms matched a "rare complication associated with lupus"--yet he explicitly refused to tell me what that complication was. Instead of practicing medicine, he chose to focus on my tone, weaponizing my medical diagnosis by claiming my SLE medications were "impacting my mental health" because I used "the F word" exactly once out of unmanaged physical pain and frustration. He then claimed he was refusing to see me, attempting to twist the situation after I had already broken off the relationship. The most alarming, retaliatory failure of care occurred later. Even though I had already terminated our relationship, his office called to direct me to stop taking my maintenance Plaquenil entirely for a month until my UCLA intake. When I informed them I would not be taking medical advice from a doctor I had just fired, Dr. Karnani actively went into the system and revoked my pharmacy refills for Plaquenil. Cutting off a vital maintenance medication for a patient known to experience recurrent flares in retaliation for being dropped is unethical, dangerous, and could have triggered a catastrophic systemic flare. Fortunately, UCLA immediately recognized the risk and issued a 12-month replacement prescription. It took three months and multiple high-dose methylprednisolone pulses to get the femur pain under control. While Dr. Karnani insisted my labs were normal (other than a relatively low 1:80 ANA) and characterized my illness as mild, UCLA took less than a month to run advanced diagnostics that clearly indicate a systemic issue, and I am now aware of treatments I may come to need, such as IVIG. The lack of adequate treatment provided by Dr. Karnani was one of the most harrowing medical experiences I have had in the 15 years I have known I am sick. A pleasant bedside manner cannot replace a lack of investigative drive or professional ethics. If you need a rheumatologist who looks for "zebras" and actually listens to patient history when standard blood work is quiet, go elsewhere. read more

I currently see Dr. Karnani for my chronic autoimmune disease, and I can honestly say this is the most thorough, respectful, mindful, and professional medical practice I have ever been to--and I've seen several throughout my lifetime. Under Dr. Karnani's care, I was properly diagnosed and guided toward treatment through Medvin. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about my Medvin nurse, Vivian. She is professional, prompt, and incredibly attentive to detail, but most importantly, she genuinely cares about my recovery. She consistently checks in on how I'm feeling, not just physically but mentally as well, and that compassion comes from a very genuine place. He is professional, good listener, diagnose me and gave me a treatment plan that worked for me. Along with my plan I had the opportunity to participate on one of the clinical trials that Dr. Karnani is part of, treating arthritis and weight loss. It has been a great journey. My clinical nurse Mrs. Vivian has been such a great support for me a good listening ear, she answers all my questions, she schedules my appointments, schedules the delivery to my medication, always making herself available with a smile. started Attending the clinic on 6/25 and after being prescribed several medications for my psoriatic arthritis and finding nothing was working, Dr. gave me the option to participate in a research, the medication is already been approved by the FDA and it's being used by other patients, but research is still under going to see what else this medication might be good for. I agreed and started the process. I met with Vivian who is the person who takes my labs and does my EKGs which is part of the process and she answers my questions and concerns when I have them. She provides me with excellent customer service. She makes it easy for me to feel comfortable while getting my labs and EKG done on my appointment days. I have only good things to say about Dr. Karnani and the entire staff at Carewell Arthritis Center. My several immune system conditions are under watchful control and I feel better and brighter, and I can do more and can enjoy life more than I could 20 years ago before I received the right treatments. This office is run professionally, with an unusually efficient portal communication system between doctor and patient. Questions are answered and prescriptions are filled immediately. A online summary of office visits confirms clarity. Dr. Karnani and his assistants are attentive, pleasant, and caring. In response to negative reviews below, I personally have never feel rushed or disrespected. I can recall no problems with wait time, nor any confusion about instructions or scheduling. And the offices -- and the personnel -- are clean and organized and well-groomed and attractive. And there certainly are no insects or stray hairs. read more

I had blood work done on July 16. & I had appointment for Dr. Diraj Kasnani and 3 appointments was cancled by him. Aug 6 finally got in to see him. Office was very dirty long black hair everywhere floor & door knob. & little black fruit flys were flying. My appointment was 10:00 and finally 11:00 was put in that room it was very hot that day & no air in the room and he comes in 11:30 with another lady and what brings you in today! I said I wanted to get my July 16 blood results. Then he told the lady to leave we both looked at him then he told her to leave again he didn't need her! Never introduced her to me he just smiled with his dirty unshaven face. Then he went in with my last review and I wasn't very happy with him ! I said yes I wanted my blood results that time also which he didn't have or even have them this time said Desert valley didn't send them over! But he did know my calcium was high that could cause kidney stones and other bad things to my kidneys but that was not his concern as it was on my primary Doctor & I should get rid of her emedledy for not telling me or following up on!! And when I saw how rude he was treating me I stood up & he said he would give me 3 months prescription to get other Doctor. Which he didn't NOT! As I was walking out I asked for a copy of my blood work he told the front desk to print it out?? What he gave me was not the results of my blood work but the request to get the blood work done!! It's so hard to find a good doctor!! So sad there is more bad non caring Doctors than good caring doctors!!!! He just wants you to keep coming back again again with out getting your results!! I've seen many Doctors this year due to many health issues and he has been by far the worst one. Dr Karnani wouldn't even let me finish explaining to him my symptoms and pretty much said to get to my point. I have many things going on with me and he doesn't believe it's that serious. How can he tell a patient what they're going through doesn't seem that serious when he's not in their shoes and knows exactly the pain they're feeling. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Karnani. I have been dealing with alot of symptoms for the last 20 years that I did not have to go into with him. He was able to look at a preop xray from 6 years ago and go directly there. I have had a bad attitude about Doctors for a long time and he changed my outlook and gave me hope.
