Dr. carey Chronis is amazing!! His office staff are wonderful, every time you call or go in they are so nice and attentive. He gets sick kids in the very same day you call if you need it and when you leave a message for him he calls back the same day and even offered for me to call his cell phone over the weekend if my daughter was still sick rather than going into an urgent care. He deeply and truly cares for his patients. Having the peace of mind to know I can take my 2 little ones in the very same day I reach out is extraordinary because they get sick a lot and sometimes very sick very quickly. I am not the only woman who has seen this guy, and came away shocked by his "advice" on how to breastfeed, or rather how not to. I am updating my review after speaking to another mom who had a similar experience, where Chronis tried to tell her how to breastfeed less, as if it was a burden. Mind you when I saw him, and he asked me how breastfeeding was going, I said, "Great! I feed on demand!" His response,"Do you want me to tell you how to breastfeed less?" What a weird question. "No," I answered. So he put in a diagnosis for "problems with breastfeeding." Uh, not problems. Feed on demand. Having good letdown response. Baby latches just fine. Mind you, I breastfeed my first son throughout my pregnancy and was now feeding baby number two with no problem. He is very behind on the times. Not one to post these kind of reviews but did not have a positive experience . Was told to limit my baby's breastfeeding to 15min per breast even if she seemed to want more. Turned out she had a tongue tie (a lactation consultant helped us figure that out later). The baby had to work extra hard and needed more time to get breastmilk out. After flipping through his book it is my opinion that this pediatrician has some outdated views. Glad we went to a different pediatrician after that initial visit. We were first time parents and I, mom, had pediatric ICU experience professionally so needless to say, I was particular in looking for a direct and thorough pediatrician who knew what they specialized in, children! I interviewed Dr. Chronis before I had my daughter. He was direct, "matter of fact," friendly, and didn't try to win me over...the kind of MD my experience showed me was an asset to have at hand and the kind of professional I wanted to guide me with my daughter. He came to see her at the hospital after delivery as he told me he would. The transition from hospital to home was seamless and he assured me to call if I had any questions. Dr. Chronis' office staff has been the most KIND, EFFICIENT, and THOROUGH staff I have ever come across. All office visits have a standard process that works smoothly and you are not sitting there waiting for them nor Dr. Chronis for any prolonged period of time. In addition, if my daughter ever had a sudden need to be seen, I would call in the morning, as they told me to, and I ALWAYS was given a visit that afternoon or the next day if that was my preference. If I ever had a question that I needed answered, Dr. Chronis ALWAYS called me back the same day, even if that meant he had a long day and it was 6:30pm. WEEKENDS/AFTER HOURS...Dr. Chronis is not lying when he says to call and he will return your call during these times. There were several times we needed to talk to him and Dr. Chronis ALWAYS answered and took the time to reassure us while giving us guidelines to follow and a game plan to help our daughter's condition. The most humorous part of working with Dr. Chronis was how spot on he was with his recommendations. This is where parents get the most hung-up by how direct Dr. Chronis is and my recommendation is to LISTEN TO HIM (while continuing to advocate for your child, of course)! For example, I believe it was around the time my daughter was about 3 months old and he asked us if we wanted to sleep with her when she was 3 years old. The answer was no, she is too wiggly, I was always awake listening out for her even though I thought I was sleeping, and we needed our rest! We were exhausted with our new baby! He told us to put her in her crib, let her cry for no longer than a certain (few minutes) time, reassure her, put her back down, etc. Let me tell you, after about one week of this... and three years later, she is independent in her sleep in her own room. We NEVER had the sleep problems other families described and we truly feel this is due to following Dr. Chronis' guidance. I, as well as my daughter, have slept like babies ever since his recommendation. EVERY RECOMMENDATION Dr. Chronis gave us...bed, pacifier, feeding, BREASTFEEDING, time outs, food intake while maintaining our preferred VEGAN diet, etc...EVERY recommendation Dr. Chronis has given us led to the easiest, most reassuring, and excellent outcome for raising our daughter from newborn to 2.5 years old. We moved out of the Ventura area when she was 2.5 years old and I absolutely wish he could have been her pediatrician for life while working with the staff he maintains. From a former pediatric ICU nurse, first time mom and dad, nervous parents despite our experience, and to all other parents out there... Dr. Chronis and his staff are the team you want caring for your little ones. He may not verbalize all of the things going through his mind while he is assessing your child (unless you ask him to) but he is truly evaluating your child's complete picture. Not to mention, he is always willing to respectfully troubleshoot any concerns/questions you might be ruminating over, just ask him (this actually helps strengthen the patient and provider relationship and you will feel more confident). Dr. Chronis is the pediatrician for our 18 month old twins. We started seeing him after getting a referral from a friend. He's very friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to put our parental fears at ease. He's very involved in his office and patients. He'll get on the phone with me quickly if I have even the smallest question and will always fit time in to see our babies. Sometimes he'll even answer the office phone himself and say "I'll see you in 10 minutes!" It's nice to feel like our babies aren't just a number and that we're supported as parents. read more

Dr. Chronis is THE BEST Pediatrician out there. I have left others in tears because of vaccinations as I choose to vaccinate my kids on my own schedule. He has never once pressured me or lectured me on why I was wrong and it should be done another way. There has NEVER been a time I needed a same day appointment and didn't get one. My daughter had a severe rash on the weekend, he called me right away had me text him a picture and he called me right back with his diagnosis and made me feel relieved. My son's school had a meningitis outbreak! I called Dr. Chronis he was immediately on the phone with the school and the Health Department keeping me updated every step of the way. He dedicates his life to caring for children and they are better off with him as their doctor. I trust him with my kids lives! And that is HUGE to say as a parent. Let me not forget about his amazing staff! They are always prompt to leave a message for me, get paperwork filled out or sent somewhere. When we moved to the area, we needed a new pediatrician for our daughter, and I'm so glad we found Dr. Chronis' office. The office is very kid-friendly - full of books and toys to hold the attention of little ones in the waiting room, and the murals in each exam room are great for engaging toddlers. Always answers his phone in case of an emergency, very calm and knowledgeable, and always willing to figure out each case, my poor baby has had a rough start his first month and dr. I set up an appointment with Dr. Chronis with two good recommendations from friends and wow, Dr. Chronis did not disappoint. He showed up to the hospital to examine our newborn baby girl. From the start, he gave us advice to get through those first "I have no clue what I'm doing" days. He has an old school, no fluff and no BS, way of doing things. You can tell he has a lot of experience and knowledge. His book! He gave us a copy of his book on our first visit. That book is a great reference for what to expect in the first year. It has pictures of different kinds of rashes, different colors of poop, and more. Gives a great peace of mind. Our visits. We had just three appointments with Dr. Chronis because we moved about 5 hours away a couple months after having our baby. Those visits were great. The staff was nice and got us registered with an iPad. The rooms are painted and fun. Dr. Chronis was quick and efficient with his evaluation and then gave us plenty of time to ask questions. He makes sure to give you some guidance for your next phase of baby life. The even more amazing part. After moving, Dr. Chronis said we could call him with any questions or concerns since he knew we wouldn't have an appointment with a new pediatrician right away. We took him up on that a few times. He was in appointments but called us back same day. He had great advice for the big 4 month transition (sleep training, starting toward real food, etc.) Even after we met with our new pediatrician (who didn't really answer our questions definitively), we gave Dr. Chronis a call because we just respected his opinion so much. Yes there are a ton of ways to sleep train, transition to food, etc etc, but when you're a first time parent and just want some definitive answers, it's nice that Dr. Chronis gives his opinion because he knows what works. With his advice, my husband and I had a plan and some serious peace of mind moving forward. As a result, our 4 month old was sleeping about 12 hours at night and is still sleeping and napping great at 6 months old. What a life changer that was. He told my wife straight to her face that she was killing her baby by breast feeding and that she needed to feed her formula which he conveniently had samples readily available to give us. A year and a half later our daughter is doing just fine, and guess what? She was exclusively breast fed for those first 9 months or so. SO much for killing her huh? Dr Chronis has been the Pediatrician for our 3 year old since birth. We just moved to SLO county and had a difficult time finding a new Pediatrician that measured up to Dr Chronis. His front office staff is extremely professional and helpful. I like how Dr Chronis doesn't sugarcoat anything. He has great bedside manner, but is also direct which is an odd balance/trait for a Dr to have. He balances this well. I was referred to Dr Chronis 12 years ago by a friend. Dr. Chronis and his staff are amazing! Dr Chronis is always available. His staff is friendly and always helpful. Unfortunately, about a year ago my insurance changed and required me to find a new doctor. My daughter ended up in the hospital and I wasn't feeling confident with the doctors at the hospital so I contacted Dr Chronis. Out of the kindness of his own heart he came to see her the very next day and helped give suggestions to the doctors who were caring for her and he reassured us that she was going to be ok. I can't tell you enough how relieved we were after his visit. After she was released from the hospital he had me come into the office to go over her charts and make sure she was getting better all because he cared! Dr. Chronis has been our pediatrician for 8+ years. He was the doctor on call when my daughter was born.... and we couldn't be happier with he and his office staff!! He's been there for us with the basic needs, and makes it a point to fit us in (same day) if it's something more urgent. I have piece of mind knowing I can reach him at any time!! If it's after hours I get a return call promptly! I tend to be a worrier but he's always right on with prognosis and reassuring:). I found Dr. Chronis through my insurance. After reading favorable reviews on Yelp and Google, I decided to check him out. My baby had other plans and came earlier than expected so I wasn't able to meet Dr. Chronis before she arrived. I listed him as the Pediatrician at the hospital anyway and was shocked when he showed up and did rounds to visit my daughter every day we were there. He is personable, always finishes an appointment or meeting with "do you have any questions" and just generally loves what he does. His office staff is great, and he is punctual which is awesome. A--Dr. Chronis is always AVAILABLE, and I mean ALWAYS! This Doctor makes himself accessible, both day and night, even on weekends and holidays! Dr. Chronis practices good, old-fashioned medicine, personally seeing to the health and welfare of your child(ren). Unlike most pediatricians, Dr. Chronis doesn't have an answering service or an on-call physician filling in for him after hours. lnstead, Dr. Chronis not only gives parents his cell phone number, but he actually answers it!!! Believe me, I have called this man many times in the middle of the night (both of my children are asthmatics), completely frantic that my child was in respiratory distress. On more than one occasion, he has calmed me down, advised me on what to do, phoned in prescriptions at 24-hour pharmacies (even out of state while we were on vacation!) and called the hospital ER to let them know that I was bringing my child in. Dr. Chronis also follows up with you while your child is recovering from an illness, injury, etc. He himself personally calls you to check up on your child. R--Dr. Chronis is a RELATIONSHIP builder. He is highly personable and takes the time to get to know you and your child(ren). As they transition from adolescents to teens, Doctor Chronis is there to guide your child(ren) every step of the way. He talks with them directly, educates them about their bodies and teaches them about the importance of hygiene and self-care. E--Dr. Chronis is EMPATHETIC. A father himself of a young teen, Dr. Chronis can relate to how you feel (frustrated, overwhelmed, etc.) and what you are going through. If a child is non-compliant, mouthing off, not doing chores, etc., Dr. Chronis gives sound advice and helpful suggestions on how to change the behavior. He also makes the child(ren) accountable for their own actions and insists that they respect you as a parent and the rules of your household. S--Dr. Chronis is SUPPORTIVE. Whatever challenges you may face with your child(ren), Dr. Chronis is there to support and encourage you every step of the way. I have a child with Autism. About eleven years ago, when I was fighting the school district to have my child removed from a special day class for severely autistic kids and into a classroom with typically functioning kids, Dr. Chronis supported my efforts. He actually took the time to write a two-page letter to the district in which he advocated for my child's full inclusion. Now, my child is successfully mainstreamed, performs well in school (3.6 GPA), and is socially active, thanks in large part to the efforts of this fine doctor.
