A Picture Perfect Proposal
In May of 2019, I started planning a proposal for my girlfriend, Catherine. Knowing that we would be on St. Thomas as part of a cruise in November it made perfect sense to do it on the island. I contacted Caribbean Buzz via email and a quick response from Charlotte was returned. For the next 6 months, we had an active discussion going. Charlotte suggested a 30 minute flight around the island, then to land on a remote beach where they would leave Catherine and I for a couple hours to be by ourselves and so that I could "pop the question". Many emails from me to Charlotte to ensure all went well were responded to in a very timely and positive manner. Details that Charlotte and Caribbean Buzz handled for me - from getting a bottle of champagne, some cheese and crackers for a snack as well as all the cutlery, champagne stemware and water bottles we needed. As the day approached the cruise line announced a schedule change and we needed to have the whole thing moved to November 6th - a day earlier. Charlotte was gracious and made all the changes needed.
When we travel, a normal tour for Catherine and I is a helicopter flight around the area we are visiting. So, going to the airport from the cruise terminal was nothing out of the ordinary. She had no idea what was about to happen! We met our pilot Maria who was excellent at keeping the big secret and got us all settled in the helicopter. For this flight Catherine and I chose to sit in the back so that we could be next to each other - the flight around the island was wonderful - we saw highlights of St. Thomas and surrounding islands that are only available via the air. From buzzing some jet skiers to looking at the cliffs of the islands, it was just a gorgeous day.
Then we flew over to Hans Lollik island and as we came around to the beach, in the sand was written "Marry Me?" (this was another service that Charlotte had arranged for us!) Catherine turned around and looked at me... I mouthed - "will you marry me" and she immediately said yes.... But, she didn't say it out loud! Maria said "Perhaps we need to go around and see the beach again..." We did and got the attached picture. We landed, found a spot on the beach where I properly proposed on one knee and when Catherine again said, "yes", placed a ring on her lovely finger. Then we found a bit of shade behind the beach and toasted to us with the Champagne that Charlotte arranged for us.
While we were offered snorkel gear, this trip was solely to propose and we spent another hour or so on the beach, just the two of us... toasting, talking and reveling in the new step in our relationship. Maria flew back, and we boarded the helicopter for the trip back but first we flew around our cruise ship a couple times.
The day was picture perfect - wonderful weather, great service from Maria/Charlotte and all of Caribbean Buzz. And Catherine said "YES" - which made me the happiest guy ever.
Thank you Caribbean Buzz! We will be telling this story for years to come - it was literally the most perfect day!
