My friends and I were really excited about trying this Trini vendor at the Caribbean festival this weekend. They had one of our favorite dishes, which was doubles. not sure if this was their first time here, but they were very unorganized the person managing the doubles in a roti was very slow and unorganized they were heating up food in the microwave. Unfortunately our jerk chicken was not cooked through. It was still red. The chef did change our meat but by then it probsbly was too late since we started eating it on them line while we waiting for the rest of our order to come. Some people couldn't wait and asked for their money back. We still wanted to support so we waited over 20 minutes for the rest of our order. When we finally got our food, we tried the doubles, and it wasn't the best, it wasn't fully cooked and it didn't taste as good or fresh as we are used to. Early this morning I had the run all night along with my friend. We got food poisoning for sure. The doubles gave us diarrhea. I wasn't sure if it was the dish until I asked a few other friends who ate the same meal and it also messed them up. We knew for sure it was the doubles and possibly the uncooked chicken. I know I can't get my money back since I use cash but they need to do better. This was very unacceptable. I would not recommend this restaurant I would never try the food again. They need better organization and structure on who will be making certain dishes or coordinating things. food was left out and looked dry. It Wasn't appetizing. Well, I was so excited to see some island food being delivered by DoorDash. Since my company paid for DoorDash meals today, I thought I spoil my family with some good food. I was sorely unimpressed. The rice and curry chicken filled their area although not the type of flavor you expect with Caribbean food. Then my two sides of cabbage and plantains left something to be desired in both quality and portion. The 5 slices of plantains were soggy and there was maybe one heaping tablespoon of cabbage. I have tried other places with much better quality. I was so wishing for better. The only positive thing I can say about the food is the curry potatoes that my son ordered were actually good. My best friend from childhood is Jamaican, so I was privileged to have good Caribbean food often while I was growing up. Since I moved to North Carolina several years ago, I've been disappointed by most of the Caribbean restaurants I've tried. I'm so glad one of my husband's coworkers, who is from Trinidad, recommended Caribbean Grill. I've tried the jerk chicken, curry goat, rice and peas, callaloo, and cabbage. The jerk chicken in particular is excellent. As another reviewer mentioned, this is a to-go type restaurant. I don't recall seeing tables anywhere in the restaurant, besides the pool table. I am from St Lucia in the Caribbean's and so I think because of that I can definitely tell what is great Caribbean food. My usual is oxtail, rice and peas, cabbage, and fried plantain ( although they are almost always out of plantains). It is always hot, seasoned well, and until the last couple of months a good serving portion. They have now downsized the portions but the price remains. I have also tried their roti; both chicken and shrimp. It's very meaty and full. The wrap is a little thicker than I prefer but it is still very good. The one thing I have an iss with is on the weekends the don't always open their doors at the time they have posted. My most favorite place to order my Caribbean meals. I drive almost 25 min to get there from my home. It is worth the drive. My food is always given to me fresh and hot. I've been eating at this location for more than 5 years. It's longer than that but I can't really remember when I first started eating here. The service is always courteous and pleasant. The gripe I have is the parking lot. But it's in an area with other businesses so I don't allow that to deter me because the food and the service is worth it. Stopped in with my husband to pick up lunch. He had Roti which looked great. I had curry goat. We also added a side order of plantains. My husband enjoyed the chicken roti. We both loved the plantains. They were ripe and sweet. The curry goat was salty and tough. I ordered cabbage and it was not cooked. West Indian food is typically expensive and this was no exception. Biggest disappointment We drove 2hrs as this is the only trini place and was very excited but to my surprise. Where do I start. Jerk chicken or jerk turkey leg. Was expecting to eat some good food, and finish the night off with a six pack of Guinness. I'm not gonna go into great detail, but all I can say is I will never again waste my money. I love Caribbean food but if you're looking for a good hospitable experience this is not the place to come. There's only one lady working every single time I go. She's very rude and never provide 100% of the menu. You can only buy about 5-7 things they provide. Service is terrible and she doesn't acknowledge the people behind you when it their turn to order. Excellent food! I love the jerk chicken, callaloo, oxtails, fry plantain and stewed chicken. Nothing I have had here has ever disappointed me. I am from Trinidad (unrelated to the owners) and it's great to have a delicious taste of home outside of my house. I know that people tend to think that all Caribbean dishes taste the same but while most countries prepare a lot of the same dishes, each country brings it's distinctive flavour to the same dish. This is a great place for a superb taste of Trinidadian food and it doesn't even showcase a quarter of our culinary delights. I had the oxtail and I'm Jamaican so I know what oxtail is to taste like and what I had was the nastiest tasting food, ridden with salt and soy sauce. I felt like I was being punked. I felt so parched after one bite because of all the salt. The rice and peas was black I've never seen that before nd more salt was added to that as well. The curry pototoes were gross and the cabbage was hard. I felt like they were serving a dog. I wouldn't even give my dog the food. I'm not one to go out of my way to right reviews but I felt the need to put out there that this isn't Caribbean food so don't class this garbage as such. The stew was not seasoned well and the "gravy" for it was more like brown water poured over my uncle Ben's rice and peas out of the box and the jerk chicken, uhh.... NO!
