First of all, I have to admit that I'm a self proclaimed Filipino food snob. My dad is an AMAZING chef so I've grown up eating delicious Filipino cuisine. So, eating Filipino food at restaurants is often underwhelming and downright disappointing but Carin de RiA DID NOT disappoint. My wife and I came in on a Sunday at around 4pm and it was empty. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly and was hot and more importantly delicious. We ordered the vegetable lumpia, pancit (chicken), oxtail kare kare, and garlic rice. I also have to mention that their bagaoong was delicious. It's not the pink and just straight up salty bagaoong, it's got that umami, garlic goodness that perfectly accompanies your kare kare. The oaxtail was sticky, gelatinous, tender and the veggies were al dente. I was surprisingly delighted to eat food that tastes just like it was made in my parent's kitchen. I highly recommend checking out this spot if you're homesick for some soul warming Filipino food, this is your place! read more

We were eating across the street at the fish restaurant and saw this Filipino restaurant hidden away. Being filipina myself, there is nothing better than home made but it's so time consuming to prepare and who wants to spend the whole day in the kitchen? Armed with my mom, dad, and auntie- we stopped by and gave this a try. Location - kind of hard to find as it's off the main street. You wouldn't know it was there. Parking- not too much unless you park across the street. Ambience- restaurant was quaint, clean with indoor seating for maybe 20 and some outdoor tables. Service/waitress- hostess was young didn't know a lot about the menu. Food- we ordered lumpia( actually lots of guests there did so must be a fave), halo- halo, and Pancit palabok. Lumpia was the winner of the 3- crispy and full of flavor. Halo2- was different for me. I am used to it having the beans, jackfruit coconut etc but this had none of these ingredients. I wouldn't say it was bad- just unexpected and disappointing in a sense that I hoped to see these here as in traditional halo2. Palabok flavor was good but they did not serve with enough sauce so it was dry. Would I return? Heck ya! If you have never had Filipino food- this place may make you a fan. read more

We drove all the way from Mira Mesa and we never get disappointed at all. We ordered kare kare, daing na bangus, chicharon and pork sinigang and they were all delicious. Moreover, Mary was very caring, attentive, accommodating and she certainly ensure that we had everything we need. What a pleasant surprise to find tasty Filipino food close to me in North County! I was out taking an afternoon stroll with my Pup along the streets of Encinitas and found this place. I ordered the grilled pork belly with garlic fried rice, classic lumpia and the leche flan. I was not disappointed! The portions were reasonable for the price and flavor was spot on! I guess I'm so used to eating in mira mesa that when I do look for Filipino cuisine here in North County there's hardly any and this is about as good as it's going to get. Out of the 3 I've tried I can go to this one. The food is good but for the size of what you pay for? Not worth it to me. I got a lunch special bistek with garlic fried rice. The whole thing was good but the pencil size lumpia that came with it? Not so sure. For the reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the price for the portion you get. I ordered the pork sisig and vegetable kare-kare and side of white rice delivered to my work. The delivery was fast, that's a plus for the Grubhub driver. The food is not bad, but it is different from the other sisig I had before. Their sisig is not crispy, it's more of a sauted sisig, lots of bell peppers and onions. I did like the vegetable kare-kare, but it was missing Tofu, it was disappointing because the tofu was pictured in one of the yelp reviews. Oh well! This is my first time trying Filipino food and I was definitely not disappointed, the food here is incredible along with the company! I got the Lunch special when I came in today which comes with your choice of meat (I went with the traditional Pork Adobo), Pancit, 2 Fried Lumpia with a sauce, and your choice of rice (I went with the white rice). The meat was so tender and delicious and the rest of the meal was fantastic! I also wanted to try Halo Halo ice cream which includes 9 different ingredients including your choice of ice cream but I wanted to go with the traditional Ube flavor (purple yams). It was so so good! Lastly, I tried Calamansi Juice and I loved it too; it literally tastes Luke fresh lemonade juices without the added sugars, so good, so natural! Through this experience trying the Filipino food, I can definitely say without a doubt this is one of my favorite new cultures. read more

After a ridiculous amount of time waiting for the food (over an hour), we finally got our Veggie Lumpia, Pancit Canton with Tofu and Grilled Salmon with Garlic Rice. Our appetites were building after each "It will only be another 15 minutes" lie. When we got home and dug in we noticed the Garlic Rice was missing (despite the extra charge for it). Hard to find Filipino food in general, and I had never tried it before coming here. That being said i'm now a convert. My friends and I split a family meal; the highlight of which were the barbecued skewers of pork - I think we all separately and audibly went "wow."
