Neat spot off the main drag in Encinitas, this place has been on my list for a while and did not disappoint. The ambiance is relaxed and intimate, we had a coveted open window seat and could enjoy evening air. Started with sweet potato fries and mango juice, and my main was the Vegetable kare kare. Generous portions, next time I will try it family style and share (recommended on the menu). Everything was flavorful, with a good variety of veggies. Service was great, owners checked up on us multiple times. No wait for a table on a Friday night. Adding this to my dinner options when in Encinitas.
The restaurant is tucked away right off the main street. The place is a super cozy, homey vibe. Our waiter was down-to-earth friendly and steered us toward some great recommendations. The lechon sisig was the star of the show, paired with the garlic rice. The lumpia came out fried to a perfect crisp, and the vinegar dipping sauce complemented it so well. We also got the pork skewers and shared the pork rib sinigang - that sour broth was ideal for cutting through the sweet skewers and adding a really nice variety of flavor profiles to the table. This is a gem in Encinitas.
I came here a couple months ago but forgot to post my review! I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. I remember strolling in and getting seated quickly. I ordered the beef salpicao which I had never tried before and it was amazing. The beef was tender and juicy with rich flavor. The flavor was delicious and it wasn't too salty. It was one of those flavors that I think everyone would enjoy if they tried it. My friend had the lechon sisig which I tried and thought was also good. I also tried the lychee beer which was super delicious and did not taste beer-like or alcoholic at all. It was more like a sweet treat to enjoy. This restaurant is tucked away. I remember walking in a little later on a weekday with a friend and the restaurant was completely empty except 3 other people. I hope they get more business (if they haven't already) because their food is great and it was easy to find parking I am looking forward to coming here again and trying new dishes. I'm especially looking forward to getting a dessert next time.
We were visiting Encinitas and decided to stop by CARiN de Ria, and I'm so glad we did. It was such a nice little restaurant with a really relaxed vibe. We sat by the open window facing the street, and it was nice just enjoying the beautiful weather and watching people walk by. That's one of the things I love about the San Diego area--it just has a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere. The food was really good. The pork BBQ was my favorite, my little one couldn't get enough of the adobo, and the halo-halo was amazing. It was so good that we ended up ordering a second one! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. It was just an enjoyable meal all around. We'll definitely be back the next time we're visiting the San Diego area. Thanks again for the great food and hospitality!
What a pleasant discovery. My husband found this spot. We ordered their family feast and it was a perfect way to taste quite a bit of items on the menu. We ordered the bbq chicken, pork adobo, pork Sinigang, and bistek. All the meat was sooo tender and flavorful. The pancit and garlic fried rice was amazing as well, but my overall fave was the dessert. The leche flan really won me over. Other than that, really cute location. Try to get the open window. The staff was on it. Super attentive and friendly. Bathroom was cleanly. & Paying was super easy. Parking was fairly easy, or we were just lucky. Went on a Saturday evening.... Thank you for a lovely experience.
First time here in an afternoon. Got the bulalo and grilled pork belly with rice. Fresh and tasty both dishes. Ordered the Bibinka to go. Fresh pork rinds were truly freshly cooked out of the fryer.
Great location in Encinitas,found a parking spot right away! I was so hungry and ordered $134 worth of food for 2! Took the rest to go for the kids. I was excited with menu! It had a lot to offer. I called in so food was ready when we got there. Pansit per my friend could have been a little firmer. The "spicy chicken adobo" was not spicy at all and I feel it had a lot of soup. My non ily firiend had to ask for salt and pepper. The Sinigang Bulalo was ok. The grilled pork was kinda tough to chew. The bean sprouts with tofu was good. The garlic rice was ok and wish there's garlic to taste. Have not tried the bbq and I look forward to eating that for dinner. They had nice seating and comfortable space for guests. The restroom is also clean and well maintained.
This is an unassuming location for solid Filipino food, but yet a welcoming addition. Oxtail Kare-Kare ($28): flavorful garlic peanut butter stew. This version has more of a curry / soup consistency that I adore, 4/5 stars. Bistek (braised beef) Tagalog lunch ($14 + $2 upgrade): the beef is tender and the sauce has umami flavors. This was easy to finish, 4/5 stars. Chicken bbq lunch ($14 + $1 upgrade): the marinade is slightly sweet that went well with the tender chicken. However, this would have vastly improved if they used juicy chicken thighs instead, 3.5/5 stars. Nonetheless, I'd return if I was in the area and craving for some Asian soul food =)
We visited from NorCal after a long, hot day at Legoland and were craving something close to home, authentic Filipino food. This place was suggested to us, and the nostalgic carinderia-style ambiance did not disappoint. It felt warm and familiar, just like the eateries back in the Philippines. Service started off a bit cool, the woman who seated us wasn't particularly friendly, but that wasn't a big deal. We ordered dinuguan, pork skewers, lechon sisig, liempo, chicharon as an appetizer, and chicken wings for the kids. When we arrived it wasn't too busy, so we expected things to move at a reasonable pace. Unfortunately there was a noticeable delay, especially with the appetizer and the kids' chicken wings. Even after following up, those items never arrived and ended up cancelling. As full-blooded Filipinos who grew up eating this food, we were also disappointed with the dishes themselves. The sisig had very little lechon/meat and was mostly bell peppers and onions. The liempo was so thick it was difficult to cut and chew. This feedback isn't meant to tear the place down, just to point out areas that could use improvement. The vibe is nice, and with tighter service and better execution on the classics, this spot has real potential.
Called ahead to order lunch for Monday, the food was ready in 15 minutes. I got the weekend lunch special ($14) with pork adobo, which also came with garlic fried rice (+$1), pancit, and 2 classic lumpia. The pork was tender, a little on the oily side, and savory with a heavy garlic flavor--delicious. Would skip the garlic fried rice next time because the garlic flavor with the meat was sufficient. Portion size was reasonable, I finished all of the food and felt decently full. Street parking was relatively easy.
Not great this time around. They said opens at 11:30 but as usual Filipino time always late. Pork sisig bit salty and meat was hard. Salmon sisig was good but not enough meat. The tofu with bean sprouts was delightful. Service was bad. Lady server was grumpy you can see in her face when you ask her something else faking it to smile and they just opened a few minutes ago. Ambiance was good.
We were looking for a place to eat Filipino Halo-Halo. My niece found this place. Not only did we order Halo-Halo , we added siomai (too bad only an order was left IT IS SO GOOD!), added lumpia shanghai, chicharon bulaklak and of course let's not forget garlic fried rice. Service was fast. Amazing SATINE remembered what we ordered - which was a lot! A memorable time and being satisfied with our food. For sure the décor looks FILIPINO Place if so relaxing and one would really enjoy the food. Thank you!

This was the best Filipino spot i've found so far. Everything is made to order and absolutely hot sizzling and delicious when it comes out. My fiancé who grew up in the Philippines says it feels like you're walking right into a restaurant there so id say if you want to feel like your in a oceanside restaurant with the windows open to let in the breeze this is the place. Absolutely worth the wait for the food but over all very friendly staff and the tables were cleaned off fast so more people could come in. 10/10 would recommend and if im ever back in town i am coming back. read more

Wow!!! For all my foodies and lovers of wanting something that makes you feel loved. Carin de Ria give you that homemade feel in the restaurant!! If your ever feeling a little adventures or have had amazing Filipino food, gives these guys a try. Today I had a little bit of everything, from Pancit, garlic rice and sizzling lechon kawali sisig. The pancit is nice and light amazing favor and I added little shrimp just give it some protein, if your vegetarian you could get this without any protein. The garlic rice was perfect not over powering of garlic but just right. For you garlic lovers I'm sure the Cheif would give you more if you like it that way!! Now for the main course the lechon was outstanding!!!! It came hot and sizzling but had an egg in the middle that you just stirred into the meat and veggies!! The lechon was cooked perfectly!! The prices where all fair and compared to the services and quality of the food!! They have a decent selection of alcoholic drinks, from beer n wine and soda etc... Carin de Ria is clean and offers a safe place to enjoy amazing food!! Stay happy, smile and leave clean plates!!! read more

Through the pandemic, this place was able to keep its doors open for takeout! NOW, with outdoor seating available - dont walk, run to this place and enjoy FANTASTIC Filipino food with great and friendly service! My friend Tracy lives in Carlsbad and wanted to try this Filipino restaurant. I'm Filipino and use to cooking my own food! Anyway, the food at Carin de Ria was delicious! This was Tracy's first time eating vegetable Kare Kare (peanut butter stew, but without the traditional oxtails)! She liked the dish! I enjoyed the Salmon Sisig (usually cooked with pork) and would order it again. We both drank Calamansi juice which was very refreshing and not too sweet. The service was excellent. The ambiance lovely with natural light. I highly recommend eating here! read more

I can't even begin to explain how excited I was when I learned that a Filipino restaurant is opening in our neighborhood. Encinitas? What?? Is this even real?!! Yes it is. And thank goodness, it did not disappoint. We've been here at least 5x since their soft opening in late April -- not even counting the To Go orders we did... so it is safe to say that we like it a lot. The food is good and as someone who grew up in a household where amazing food is the norm, Carinderia is a great alternative for when you can't drive to your parents' house in LA that random weeknight when you're craving some homestyle pinoy cooking. I still haven't tried everything on the menu (#goals), but I'm halfway there. As with any restaurant, not all dishes are created equal, so here is my top 5 list: - pork sinigang - lechon kawali sisig - chicharron (appetizer) - caldereta - pork belly bbq I also really appreciate that the owner, Archie, takes the time to get to know his customers, as he genuinely and passionately wants to make this a great experience for everyone. We enjoy the casual vibe and we always feel comfortable every time we come for a family dinner. TLDR: I highly recommend this place -- if they keep on making the same food, Carinderia will be HUGE, so get in now and check it out before waitlists start. Save a spot for me though. :) read more

This halo halo had is one of the best I've tasted. They have a milk slushy for the base that just melts in your mouth. Definitely not like your typical halo halo but it was so delicious! read more

Great little spot in Encinitas to chill out and enjoy some great food. The owner is super nice and made sure to accommodate my allergies. The owner's teenage son took our order. He was very professional and helpful. The chicken plate was infused with Filipino flavor, savory and rich in flavor. The pork belly, equally savory and satisfying. The only disappointing moment was when I realized there was no more food on my plate, it tasted so good! All the more reason to come again and enjoy the food all over again. Pro tip: Get the garlic rice its incredibly tasty! read more

Just went by to check it out today & ordered lechon kawali to go... very expensive for what you were given. Way to expensive. The order did not even cover the bottom of the small to go container & they said it was to share for two...oh by the way that was $10.78 including tax. read more

it's authentic without taking a step back for the neighborhood. i came cause they had sisig on a sizzling plate, the wife cause of the caldereta but it was more beef mechado than caldereta. like I said the flavors are there considering where there at, but you got to give them props for one opening up in Encinitas, and two having an actual sit down restaurant. most typical Filipino places in SD are what's referred to as point-point, so to have a sit down is a plus and their neighborhood diners would appreciate it. hopefully they're just temporarily closed because I was hoping to come back to try a few more things. read more

yes, Archie had both locations open for a while but has now closed the Escondido location
I noticed that there is no bar. Is it OK to bring cocktails and wine with us? Will you provide cocktail glasses and/or wine glasses?
I don't think it will be a problem bringing in your own cocktails or wine. They don't have wine glasses but I'm sure they have others for cocktails.
