All three were there on the first day to ensure a smooth and professional first meeting with us and our mother. Shirley was truly an angel and her passion for her job as a caregiver was phenomenal. There were days when Shirley would be assisted by Monique in our mom's bathing to ensure safety and a dignified bathing experience. Shirley immediately took to cleaning and doing laundry which allowed us more time with our mother. This service was recommended with two others to us by the Home Health social worker and charge nurse. We are so happy we picked this crew of very special people who do a job that requires compassion, patience and a big heart.

In fact, she told me to call back on a Thursday, when there would be someone who could discuss with me the possibility of utilizing a special discount subsidy that could be applied, depending on my loved one's financial resources. However, when I appeared earlier this year, 2024, I was met with two upper-level directors who actually suggested that perhaps when I called last year, that I actually called a nearby apartment building named "Harbor Terrace" instead. I realized right away that I was being given the brush-off. The fact of the matter of is that these smiling ladies had no intention of assisting me with housing, be it assisted or independent living. At the end of the conversation before I left, the director went to her office and came back with a cute cookie lollipop and thanked me for visiting after telling me that most residents there have family members assisting them with their monthly rent expense. She was telling me something I already knew from years ago while checking into assisted and independent living arrangements in core Los Angeles. Overall, I am rating Harbor Terrace Assisted and Independent Living three (3) stars, and that's generous - - because I like the setup, know the neighborhood , and I know of people who live there because I see them in the neighborhood and talk with them. Without a doubt, I was given the brush-off when I appeared because I am a person of color.. and it was obvious that there was no desire to attract me or my loved as residents at Harbor Terrace. I spoke with Markeith McCrew, who was very professional, kind, and showed sincere care for mom and our family's needs. I was very impressed with Markeith's approach to our needs. Most of the services I interviewed all charge the same price per hour, yet Markeith made the difference in our decision. We started with 12 hours a day but slowly graduated to full 24 hr care. Crystal and Salud in the office are also very professional, kind, and efficient when issues arise or scheduling changes are needed. I get a monthly schedule, so I am fully aware of who is on duty each shift. The communication is very good, and if a caregiver is unable to make a workshift, the other team members at comfort keepers strive hard to find a replacement ASAP and keep me informed of progress. The caregivers are very good, and I must praise Kiara, Katherine, Lisa, Veronica, Ayotunde, and Jasmine for their efforts as carrgiving requires special people with big hearts as well as tender compassion and experience. Markeith also has been instrumental in ensuring that the required tasks are completed on each shift and also provides training to the caregivers as needed.
