In just one visit, Dr. Steele and her amazing staff have made two lifelong customers. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Steele and her staff. Within 20 minutes my boyfriend and I just knew that everyone there loved their job and genuinely cared about what they do, and I'm fairly certain they saved my dogs life yesterday. My elderly dachshund has been suffering from heart disease that was diagnosed about 4 month ago. It started when I noticed he was breathing slightly faster than normal for about 3 days straight. I took him to a vet out where I used to live in Chesterfield. They took him for Xrays and then drew blood without my permission, and didn't even bother to check if I could even afford it. I was basically told his heart is a little enlarged and they are going to put him on two medications which were severely overpriced at their facility. I was told he will only get worse from here. His lungs would fill with fluid and he would eventually progress into congestive heart failure. After seeking a second opinion at another facility around September, I was told there was a small spot of fluid shown in the Xrays that I was not informed about, and his heart was more than just a "little enlarged," but still the same story. Nothing could be done to at least improve the quality of the time he has left. Fast forward to yesterday. I woke up to my dog suddenly worse than he's ever been, and I was sure this was going to be it, I cried all morning and the whole drive there. He was breathing so hard it was painful, gasping, wheezing, and coughing, which were all new symptoms that developed suddenly. Dr. Steele and her staff took their time with him, and actually made sure for once that I knew what was going on with my dog. I was shown diagrams to explain the physiology of what was happening with him, and was informed of an entire treatment plan, and was told the price of every last detail before they even did anything. He was given two doses of a diuretic via a catheter. They kept him the entire day to watch him, and even let me walk him to his "kennel," which was a little fenced in area next to an employees desk where he had constant surveillance and he had blankets and a very comfy mat to sleep on, as well as soft music to calm him. When I came to pick him up, Dr. Steele went over every piece of bloodwork and testing they had done with him that day, we extensively discussed the diuretics he was being prescribed and how they worked, as well as took the time to go over the old xrays and the new ones that were taken. Unfortunately, it turns out he should have been on diuretics from the start. The fluid shown in the old xrays was much worse than I was led to believe, but thankfully after the diuretics it was evident in the new xrays that they had made a huge difference. I was taught how to check his respiratory rate, what was normal, and where he was at currently, so I can better monitor his health at home. The picture is him sleeping soundly for the first time in months. He is actually better than he has been since he was diagnosed, his heavy breathing has subsided substantially, and for once I feel good and confident about the money I spent for the care and service we received. I also got a phone call this morning from Dr. Steele to check on how he was doing, and to see if I had been checking his respiratory rate. Thank you so much Dr. Steele and staff, from the bottom of my heart. I know his condition is not curable, but for the first time I feel hopeful that he does not have to suffer through it and that I have an amazing team by my side to help us through it. This was our first visit to a vet in Michigan & I've got to say, Dr. Steele was great. The office is clean & tidy with lots of helpful nurses all around. I made an appointment last week & I was promptly attended as soon as I got in. The nurse was super nice while Coco's history. Dr. Steele was very helpful as well & offered some tips to make Coco a happier dog while we're in Lansing =) I would recommend this office to anyone looking for a friendly & helpful vet for their pet. read more

Love both Vets and all their staff. They are also pleasant and kind in handling my 2 dogs. Rarely have to wait for more then a minute or so to be helped. While both of my boys are extremely anxious about going to the Vet and they handle their anxiety with great compassion; Have been to a couple of other Vets through the years and this practice goes way above and beyond all the others I have been to; for which I am very grateful. read more

My dog had to be sedated at the previous vet, but the staff at Caring (esp. Dr. Cotter & Erica) are so good with her and can treat her without needing to knock her out first. She's elderly and has had some issues, but both Dr. Steele and Dr. Cotter have been patient with all of my questions and issues getting my difficult, stubborn dog to take her meds. Apparently Steele's lack of knowledge and discernment do not line up with her supposed training. My beautiful cat Zion was taken in, blocked-could not urinate, potentially life threatening condition. However-he was bright, alert, had been eating not long before and was strong when I took him in. She even said I had caught it early. Zion was hospitalized in Novi 2 mos. ago critical and near death from being blocked-I waited too long. But they gave him excellent care & literally saved his life. This time he was not critical in any way. Steele charge over $200 more than emergency clinic to unblock him. Initially gave him a pain shot before anything else-unsure why as he would soon be under anesthesia ($25 for shot). I refused to pay $108 for sensitivity test for urine so was going to leave but had already spent $80, shot & $55 office call, and I knew my baby needed help so I agreed to this extra charge and said I would stay & have him treated. I wish a thousand times I had not. When I visited my boy next afternoon around 2:30pm he stunk so bad I could not believe it. It was a stench, not just urine. He was brought in the room to me on a towel in a cardboard box. The towel was damp with the same stenchy smell. His IV line was tight on his paw. Doctor never came in but had left message on ans machine in a.m. explaining his elevated white count as probable stress. On initial exam Steele went on and on about Zion's bad teeth and gums, which anyone in vet school learns puts bacteria in the bloodstream all by itself. Steele also made comment to me that when they catheterize a cat it puts bacteria in their system. I did not know until later, she never put him on antibiotics!!! That evening I was about to leave the house. Phone rang & her cohort doctor called leaving a message that I need to call back about future plans for Zion. I got very worried and called right back (I have no cell phone and told them that) Not sure what they would have done had they not reached me. Other doctor said I should pick Zion up and take him to MSU vet clinic for the night. Gee, and I thought that's what I was paying them to do-care for his medical needs. Why this was not spoken with me at the beginning if treatment I do not know. I was informed he had urinated about 2hrs ago and they were not sure if he was going to block again as his bladder seemed somewhat full and could burst if he remained there and no one back to check on him for 12 unattended hours!! Unreal!! I went & picked him up. They released him with nothing-no antibiotics, no bag of subcutaneous fluids, no anti-imflammatory, no pain meds, no anti spasmodic-NOTHING!! I was up with my boy all night. He blocked about 7am next am and I took him to another vet. When the vet catheterized him a load of pus came out of him. When I went to see him the following morning the doctor was trying to save his life, giving him oxygen, etc. but he died shortly after I arrived. Zion was 7yrs old and nearly died 2 mos ago but got great care. I caught his condition early and there is no way he should have died. He should have been put on antibiotics-something so easy and basic-and I more than believe he would still be alive today. Personally I have not been the same since. 7wks now and I cry in pain sometimes thinking about how cruel and senseless his death was, and so totally unnecessary! She does not deserve to "practice" vet medicine-she is totally incompetent! Your animal deserves much better than her. Greed should be her middle name; my bill for 32hrs of the poorest vet care possible was over $1400. I wish a thousand times I had taken him back to Novi-I thought I would save money taking him local, instead I spent more and my innocent, precious Zion was murdered (unlawful killing of another without justification or excuse). read more

This is the best veterinarian practice I've ever gone to in nearly 30 years of having dogs in my life. Dr. Steele is not only very, very smart and experienced, she's never reluctant to consult with MSU specialists if the need arises. The entire staff is CARING and LOVING and treat both my dogs and me with that care and love. The clinic is totally clean and well equipped, and I always get prompt attention when I come in. The vet technicians are highly experienced and have a long tenure with the clinic so they, along with Dr. Steele, are very familiar with my dogs' temperaments and health history which really helps when one of them is ill. I can't recommend Caring Animal Hospital more highly - it's the greatest place to take your dog or cat! read more
