Update: After defeating fleas and bacterial+yeast ear infection, kitty recently developed fip, a deadly disease that kills cats without a very long and expensive treatment. Despite all the care we provide for our indoor kitten, he has always been quite sickly. Even the vet commented on how often I visited their office within the last 3 months. If you are looking to adopt, just go to other rescues and shelters that actually care for their furbabies. read more

Caring Friends Cat Rescue is an amazing organization that operates through Pet Smart in Tustin. The application process was a bit of a roller coaster ride but my husband and I ended up with amazing companion a week after applying. If you're looking to leave with a cat the same day, this probably isn't the place for you. Caring Friends ensures every home is the perfect fit, not "first come first serve".. People don't understand this is for a good reason. This is how they prevent these kitties from falling into the same situation they were in previously. You will most likely be denied if you're applying to buy a kitten as a present for your 3 year old...planning to make them indoor/outdoor..etc. (These are all good reasons and you should probably reevaluate your decision for the sake of the kitty you're trying to save.) read more

Please don't adopt from this organization because if you ever need to contact them about any issues you may have with the cat or cats you adopted, you will not be able to reach them. I called Julie (business owner) on the phone number provided on her business card and the message was that they don't take voice mail messages and to contact them by email. I emailed them at two different email addresses and both were returned as undeliverable. There are better cat rescue organizations out there so please consider using one of them instead of Caring Friends. read more

My children and I visited PetSmart on Tustin three different weekends and we met a kitten we loved, she purred when we held her and my son wanted to adopt her for his birthday. This would have been our first family pet. I got an application and was told to complete it and email it. I sent it to the email address listed on the application. A week went by with no response. I went online and saw a different email address and forwarded my application. I also went to the Petsmart yesterday and the volunteers reviewed my application on the spot and I was basically told that kittens are only adopted in pairs when there isn't a pet already in the home. I was told I should keep looking since they would not let us adopt the kitten we loved. I asked them to reconsider, as I work from home and the kitten would get plenty of love and attention from our family. I received a voicemail letting me know again that they would let us not adopt the kitten. Of course, we are disappointed, especially my son. Their policy is preventing good families for adopting kittens that need loving homes--which is exactly the purpose of the rescue--right? If they make exceptions to their policy, not sure why we weren't considered. Don't bother calling or emailing them, they do not respond in a timely manner (if ever). We are trying to do something good by rescuing and supporting an organization like Caring Friends Cat Rescue and it just should not be this difficult. Too bad. read more

My cat Blue was almost a year old and I noticed she was getting really lonely with just me as her playmate; that's when I have enough energy to actually play with her. Some days I could hear her meowing loudly as I get out of the car after a day's work. I needed a companion for my baby. I've seen pictures of Noah (now renamed Mao) on Craigslist and PetFinder but I thought someone would definitely adopt him since he's so adorable. Then on March, I happened to see an ad saying they're gonna have an adoption fair at PetSmart in Long Beach. I went just to see and Noah was the first cat I saw. His cage was right across the entrance. I went straight to his cage and he started rubbing his body against the cage and purring. Aww. What a sweetheart. After walking around, I went back and asked how to adopt him. They said I could give a down payment for the adoption fee and they'll hold him for me or I could go online and send in an application. Knowing someone was apt to adopt him, I went home and sent in an application anyway. If he got adopted, I was gonna get another one, probably an adult cat. They're the hardest ones to find a home for. Sure enough I got a response a day later that Noah was adopted. I was happy. Almost 2 months later, I saw his pic up again. What happened? Apparently, they returned him for shedding too much. Poor baby. Well, that's a sign. I resent my application, went, signed lots of papers and paid $150 and home we went. Now I have two siamese kitties running around my place. Mao is the sweetest cat. He loves to play and cuddle and purr. read more

Adopted my beautiful baby Misty May from this organization in January. She is the most lovable cat and has been an amazing addition to our now kitty trio! Caring Friends was EXTREMELY HELPFUL and NICE! Their communication was great and they keep great care of all their cats waiting for new homes! I have recommended many friends to them and would adopt again in a heart beat! What I appreciated most is how much they care about the type of home and owners their cats are going in to. What I like about CFCR is that their volunteers are not over reactive and presumptuous. You can trust that the team members are there for the well being of the cats and all homeless animals. The volunteers are good at communicating professionally. You can walk by their cattery at any of their adoption events with your dog friend, as a shopper, and you won't have their volunteers accuse you of getting their cats all worked up. I had a bad experience with a cat rescue that happens to hold their events at the Foothill Ranch and Lake Forest Petsmart. That particular rescue accused dog owners of "cat testing" their dogs in front of their cat cages, but instead of speaking directly to the dog rescue group that happened to be holding an adoption event, to get to the bottom of the situation, they made false accusations and the homeless dogs got the short end of the stick. Warning: Don't deal with groups like that. Deal with volunteers and groups that are professional like Caring Friends Cat Rescue! You want a reputable cat rescue to work with? I rescued my wonderful kittenWebster from them about 3 months ago . The application process was smooth and easy. They even made a special trip to petco for me just so I could pick up my new kitten. He was healthy, vaccinated, and neutered. He has been a wonderful addition tand the volunteers have been so helpful with any questions I may have had. I had a wonderful experience with the ladies that run this rescue. They truly care about each of the animals and can describe each animal's past and personality. Very hassle-free process (assuming that the adopter is a competent owner). The donation amount is a total bargain considering the amount of veterinary care that each cat receives before being eligible for adoption. I think adopting a kittie into a home should and needs to be a tedious and very long process because some people think it is too easy to adopt a cat and abandon them when things get hard. I believe the volunteers are doing the best they can in a way that they know best! :) Instead of complaining I believe people should volunteer and see how hard they work and see how many different kinds of people they have to deal with. I hope the cats all go to a good home and thats the only thing on volunteers minds as well. The application process was as smooth as can be, and the responses to my inquiries and application were very timely. Most important of all, though, is how much love they pour into their mission. I was shocked to read such negative feedback for CaringFriends Cat Rescue. I adopted 3 of my 4 cats through them and was always treated respectfully. This organization has a strict adoption policy because they have the best interest for the cats they rescue. Unfortunately some people do get turned down to adopt because obviously something they marked on their application did not meet up with the criteria to adopt . The rules are in place for a reason. They try to reduce the turn around rate and also try to ensure the safety for all their cats that get adopted. I can't believe someone would even suggest trying to shut down such a wonderful organization especially just in spite. I encourage these people to try to open a rescue on their own. Maybe if they saw first hand what a true rescue does, maybe they would be more compassionate and understanding of the adoption process. Julie, was always very helpful and she obviously does not turn applications down for personal reasons, she turns applications down because again, there are certain criterias that have to be met. And come on seriously you think that someone would tell you the reason that you were turned down? Not knowing may be frustrating, but it's for the safety of the cats. If you are informed, what's stopping you from turning around and changing your answers? Thank you Caringfriends Cat Rescue for all the work you do! I have worked with the directors and many of the fosters with Caring Friends. I have never met any group of people so dedicated and caring to their charges. They are always full, have lots of adoption events, and take great care of their kitties. My mother even adopted a kitten, little Fedora who is now quite spoiled. I can't recommend them enough. While there might be some hurdles to go through with any adoption group...persevere, because they take great care of these cats and work tirelessly to find them a good home. read more

My experience with this rescue gets one star and that star goes to the volunteer that worked with me and my children for 75 minutes before getting declined on the spot. Julie was extremely rude in corresponding with me when all I really wanted to do was gain an understanding of why we were declined after bonding with the kittens for 75 minutes. We were pet owners of 22 years until our cat passed away a month ago and we were in search of a kitty to make our children and myself happy again. We were declined simply because of an error I might have made on the application. The way we were told was extremely unprofessional and without any sympathy. The worst part of the entire ordeal was my 3 yr old crying for the next hour not understanding why she wasn't allowed to have the kitten she found!!! We were lied to and I would NEVER EVER recommend using this adoption rescue. Little did Julie know, I adopted two other kittens for my children prior to sending an email to gain an understanding as to what went wrong in the process. I am extremely happy with our new additions. It just would have been better for me if Julie wasn't so rude in her comments and if she actually made an attempt to correct an error that I might have made innocently!!! Just wanted peace of mind but instead I got someone who has no empathy or skill to make a wrong right!!! My efforts will now be spent making others aware of this organization and making every attempt to make sure other children and mothers are not subject to the same disappointment we experienced. A simple "i'm sorry", I understand you may have made an error on your application, what can we do to make this better for you" would have settled my heart but instead I got rude comments from the owner and if anyone wants to read my emails from this organization, I will forward them to you and save you the trip to Tustin!!! Laura - I have handled many adoptions and for this decline to have occurred, I'm thinking that that "error" you made was a big one or indicated a possible future problem for the animal. The rescue I work with never allows handling of the pet until the application is finally approved and all questions for the applicant are answered fully. All the other reviews here are 5-Star and you appear to be the only complainant. Something there. The rescue groups represent the voiceless animals and usually design their applications to ensure that the best fit for the animal and adopting family is found. This includes issues of safety. read more

The volunteers were super awesome to my husband and I. I came by the Petsmart after hours and found Caring Friends online, filled out an application for one of the kitties. My Hubbs and I checked out all the kitties and found one that really fit us. He actually picked us out!! His name is Louis and he is totally amazing! I have wanted to get a kitty for a really long time and finally found our baby. My hubbs ending up picking him up, by himself, and the volunteers were super helpful to him.
