I thank Irvine Animal Care Center for their patience with my childhood dog, Max, and taking care of him during his time here when he was wrongfully dropped off a few days prior. The process to have him back was easy and communication was perfect since all my questions were answered today. Even providing me with multiple resources for possible low-cost euthanasia services was also very helpful for me and saved me a lot of time. The staff were all very friendly as well. Thank you guys for listening to my explanation on the matter. Because I was able to have him back, I was able to move forward with euthanizing him at a pet hospital that my friend works at and was able to be with him in his last moments just a few hours ago. This shelter is beautiful--with spacious green areas and well-planned pens that give the animals plenty of room to play. The staff and volunteers are incredibly kind and genuinely care about each and every animal. My family has adopted two wonderful dogs from this shelter: Chance and Rosie (originally named Caphis and Merida). Chance joined our family in February 2013, and Rosie in August 2018. Both have the sweetest, most loving companions we could have ever hoped for. Rosie, a German Shepherd mix, came to us through the shelter's Third Chance program, which helps give animals from overpopulated shelters or disaster-affected environments a greater opportunity to find their forever homes. I had a very disappointing experience at the Irvine Animal Care Center. I came in looking to adopt two kittens and found two that I was genuinely interested in. When we went to the front desk, we were asked to complete a survey, which was understandable. However, after reviewing the survey, a staff member named Casey decided that the kittens were "not a good fit" for me without ever allowing me to interact with them.What was frustrating was that the decision seemed to be made solely based on the survey, with no opportunity for me to meet the kittens or discuss my experience with pets. Casey repeatedly stated that the kittens were "mouthy," as if I wasn't aware that kittens can bite, scratch, and be playful while they're still young. Rather than allowing us to interact with them and make an informed decision, we were simply told it wasn't worth it because they weren't a good fit. I understand the importance of finding suitable homes for animals, but making assumptions about potential adopters without even allowing an interaction felt unfair and discouraging. I left feeling judged and dismissed instead of supported through the adoption process. read more

There are a lot of animals here and good descriptions of you are looking to adopt. They have dogs, cats and rabbits. There is some remodeling going on and the place is sprawled out pretty good. You need to walk down a corridor to get to the animal areas once you go past the office trailer. Great place!! Super clean and staff are friendly. The facilities well taken care of and the pets all look like they are cared for appropriately (as far as I could see). I came here with my partner to adopt a puppy. We came one day just to meet him and he was a total sweetheart. We instantly fell in love with him. He has his shots and is neutered already. So that is nice. He was adopted previously and returned because he had destructive behaviors. He just needs some love and training though. Today we go back to officially bring him home. I'm confused by all the reviewers saying they had trouble with the staff when trying to turn in a stray animal that was found. I worked in Irvine and frequently ate lunch at the food court on Main Street/Jamboree. One day, leaving the food court, I found a dog outside in the pouring down rain vomiting by the trash cans. The dog gladly jumped into my car to get out of the down pour and I drove it to this animal shelter (yes, it vomited all over the back seat of my car). Not only did they take the dog in immediately with no questions asked, they helped me clean up my car. This place is amazing read more

After our dog passed we came here on a whim. Irvine animal care has rabbits, cats and dogs at this facility. The animals here look to be well kept and happy. Each of their temporary homes has an inside area and outdoor area that they can freely pass from one to the next on their own. Once the animals are processed, they will be chipped, spayed/neutered and cleaned up prior to being available for adoption. Adoption fees are very reasonable and even though we went to a breeder in the past, we are considering adoption for our next family member. read more

Found some kittens in a grocery store parking lot that seemed to be abandoned as they were left in a cardboard box, I figured since it was by a big road it would be a good idea to get them off the street and take them to a local shelter. I ended up taking the kittens to the Irvine animal care center since I was informed to take them to the shelter of the city I found them in. Naturally, I called animal control and was told by that I could show up to the Irvine animal care center as early as 7am if it was for a simple drop off but when I arrived the workers at the center seemed very inconvenienced and were visibly upset - the staff were balently rude. We learned the hard way (aka a condescending lecture) that in Orange County, cats are allowed to free roam so you'll most likely have the same experience if you also find kittens in Orange County. I would have been okay learning this from them but the tone and demeanor of the staff was very unsettling. It's very disheartening to go to an animal shelter and be scolded for doing what seemed to be the responsible thing. I just suggest that in the future the staff follow the shelters values of "Mutual Respect, Innovation, Integrity, Professionalism, Flexibility, Responsiveness" and are patient with people who are not from the area. read more

I found an amazingly friendly cat outside in the Irvine Marsh and was afraid that he'd be stuck in a shelter indefinitely if I turned him him in (he wasn't chipped). I was recommended Irvine Care because of their relatively low kill rate- they came and picked the cat up, double checked that he wasn't chipped, and the cat was in fact adopted within ten days! I was so grateful for the communication too- whenever I called to ask about his progress, the folks were really kind and shared the cat's status. So happy they found him a home with a family (who, it turns out, has been adopting from that shelter for a long time!) read more

. I adopted my 2 babies there and my sister adopted her kitty her too. The staff is friendly and the adoption fees are reasonable. The baby health conditions are not explicitly posted online or even hinted at which can be low key deceiving. They also don't site online when they are bonded to a sibling. We went in we were seeking one particular kitten. We went in to a room to meet him and they snuck in that he had a bonded brother and they brought them both out at the same time. We played with them both and immediately fell in love. After pulling at our heart strings and falling in love with 2 cats a vet come in to tell us they could have FIV. We were pulled in to take 2 kitties and then come to terms that 1) insurance may not cover them if they are ill 2) they will have short sick life spans. Thankfully for kitties their first FIV Tests can be false positives and our babies did not actually have FIV. Just be ware that this might spring up. So call in advance about a pet you are interested and ask about their health and bonding situation before going in and not being able to walk away. I say this because not everyone has the means to take care of pets with illnesses or the room for 2 pets. Now this may sound like not the best review but in the end we got the 2 best boys and so did my sisters. I also think that this shelter takes great care of their animals. read more

I just adopted My new puppy a 4 year old Maltese. He is so adorable.It was such a delightful experience, all the staff were so kind and knowledgeable. You can tell they all love animals. They also realize it's an emotional and stressful time for us. They want the animals to go to a good home so they ask appropriate questions without being intrusive. My dog had been neutered given shots and chipped they gave me all the paperwork and a bag of food. WARNING: This is a KILL shelter and they will even kill animals that people have signed up to adopt/have interest in!! They would rather kill than give these animals to people they KNOW are waiting and begging to adopt!! I gave this place me and my bf's name, phone number, email, and address to be put on an interest list for a dog I know that had been severely neglected. The owner of the dog couldn't keep him because his fractured leg and medical treatments were too much money and drama, and her family didn't have the basic knowledge nor common sense to raise a dog and give him a truly fulfilling and happy life so the police brought her surrendered dog here. Hours after the dog was dropped off here, after giving them all my contact information for this dog I wanted, I received a response to "check back in a few weeks". I did not wait a few weeks. I was worried this shelter would do something unnecessary and hasty, so I reached out again 3 days later. Hours later I receive a phone call from the shelter, letting me know that they already euthanized him. They didn't even know WHEN he was euthanized. This dog was with them for less than 3 days and they killed him KNOWING people still wanted him. Why didn't they call us if they had our contact information? We literally live 5-10 minutes away. The dog's injuries were not a dire emergency. He didn't have stage 5 kidney failure, brain cancer, or a heart condition. He had one fractured leg that was healing after surgery. And this place didn't even have the decency to let us know or visit or see him even ONCE. BIG YIKES @ this shelter. Shame on the person who made this reckless decision without even giving this boy a fighting chance. He would've had a beautiful life that he always deserved. read more

I often like to donate things here and when I do I'm sure to do a circle around to visit the animals. This is probably the only center I've been to where they don't seem as "sad" to be there. In fact they love seeing visitors and I encourage others to visit even if they aren't considering adopting a fur baby. It's been a little over a week since adopting my newest kitty companion. This was definitely the nicest shelter I have been to. The property is nicely landscaped with plenty of grass. The main office was also quite nice. Although I was not able to view the animals in their enclosures, I was able to do a meet and greet within a private room. Nothing I saw at the shelter was concerning. Prior to scheduling my visit, I was contacted to discuss possible adoption. The person I spoke with was very helpful in discussing the personality traits of the animal of interest. Overall, the service offered by all personnel was wonderful. Gracie, formerly known as Bandit, has become accustomed to her new home. After a few days of constantly playing paws under the door, I allowed her and her new brother to meet and they instantly hit it off. Although she is still somewhat shy with me, she finds a lot of comfort in her big brother. I've learned she loves pets, rubs, and scratchies over her entire body, her belly being one of her favorites. She also loves playing with toys, chasing, and doing zoomies with her brother. Overall, she's adjusting well. I'd like to thank this care center for doing so well with her in the time that they had her. :) read more

THIS PLACE WAS TERRIBLE! The ONLY good thing there were the trainers outside the 4x4 cells they keep the dogs in. The front staff is rude and USELESS! Everyone tells you a different answer. We called at 1230pm they told us to come down to get the dog we saw online and viewing hours were from 1p-4pm. We get there say we want the dog and they tell us it's 3:10 and they don't have time to give us the survey and the counseling for the dog! I tell the Asian lady working I think her name was Michelle? I said we JUST called and you told us to come down and she just rudely said the same statement back to us. So we obliged and came back with a leash in hand at 10am because she told us there was no appointments booked for the following day for that dog (on a Sunday) and to come back and they would squeeze us in. We waited outside until about 10:45! There were 2 others waiting with us that had lost their pets. The other white lady behind the desk from the previous day sees us with them looks straight at us and just gives us a dirty look and closed the door in our face! Then the next day we FINALLY get the call for counseling which is done from some call center and they tell us that the dog has a PLETHORA of medical problems and isn't even potty trained at 3yrs old. Also telling us that she's on TWO different Meds because she isn't doing well in a Kennel!!! (60 lbs German shepherd in a 4x4 cell!! NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!! They put her on trazadone! And another drug which we would have to ween her off just because they didn't feel like doing their jobs. This should be CRIMINAL! Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Going to be tweeting this AND calling PETA. NOT OKAY!!!!!! read more

Very clean facility, wide open, plenty of running space for dogs, just like a playground, and many areas to bond with the animals. One of the larger centers housing rabbits, cats, and dogs. The staff are very friendly and professional, smiling all the time. They greet you, give you as much information as needed, and answer any questions regarding adoption. The selection of dogs is down currently, but they have new dogs almost each week. Same with the cats. Great place to spend time and bond with different animals. The one dog I was interested was gone the next day. Her name was Miriam, a black Dootson (sp, HAHA) mix 10 mos old. I know who adopted her, lucky couple, lucky Miriam. PLEASE READ. DO NOT GET ANIMALS FROM THIS FACILITY. ANIMAL NEGLIGENCE. DISEASE. IF I COULD RATE THIS LOWER I WOULD. HERES THE STORY. I adopted my first cat from this center she was estimated to be 4-6 years old. I rescued this beautiful girl wanting to give her another chance--as she had a tooth issue that caused no one to want to adopt her. However, little did I know that that wasn't the only issue she had, that the rescue center failed to express or discover. Unfortunately, the rescue center prioritized money over the health and wellness of their furry friends and mazy paid the price. They FAILED to properly check my precious kitty prior to giving the ok for the adoption process. They did NOT check thoroughly enough. When she arrived to the facility she was extremely unwell with an ear infection and tooth problems. They had her for a little over a week and after she seemed good enough for the naked eye, they put her up for adoption. RIDICULOUS. They DO NOT care about their animals nor do they have proper checkups. After taking her home the FIRST DAY mazy's health declined rapidly soon after adoption, and she was severely unwell. She had an extremely high fever of 107° and was only getting worse. This persisted for only 4 days of having her. She then began to not eat and was admitted to the ER for intensive care and testing. I did not have the heart to "return her" as that is what the shelter suggested--they stated that I would be giving up ownership to do so and whatever medical treatment they decided upon would be out of my control. Which in her case they would have most likely euthanized her without giving her a chance of treatment. I refuse to put up with animal negligence from shelters no longer. I paid 4000$ for testing, screening, medicine, ultrasounds, blood work, etc. in hopes of saving her as she was family even after only 4 days. However unfortunately she did not make it. She was diagnosed with FELINE CORONAVIRUS which is EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS TO OTHER CATS. I would assume that the other cats in that facility had come in contact with her during playtime or from close proximity and I HIGHLY DOUBT--seeing how they have been handling this situation--that the other cats and families will unfortunately be in the same spot as me. I am so devastated. The joy and bonding I had with having her, only for her to be suffering from drowning from fluids in her lungs. Nothing makes me more upset than the idea of that animal shelter and the way they treat their animals and their customers. I hope no one will experience what I experienced ever in their life and I hope you take this review seriously. Thank you. read more

Such an awesome experience adopting our doggie. We came here a few times prior, so by the time we were ready to bring home another fur baby we brought all of our humans and our pets. They told us everything about our baby-- medical needs, temperament, training needs. Everyone met and made sure everyone got along. Then we got to take our baby home!! As easy as that. Its an animal shelter... and animal shelters ALWAYS break my heart. I want to adopt every single animal! Well, maybe not the pig.... while he is cute, he is dirrrrrrrrrrrty. But... hes cute. Anyway, I have donated items here numerous times. I also got my first cat here - I want to say almost 20 years ago. I went in looking for a cat, and someone brought in a box of kittens they found on a corner. A little girl was holding one, so upset she couldnt keep it. I said I would take her, and give her a good home, so she knew she was going to be OK. She asked me if I would name her "Princess Anabelle". I just smiled at her. I named her Kahlua.... but thats ok. She got an amazing home for 14 years and she was spoiled and loved. Last week when I dropped off some donations, I decided to walk to the back and look at the cats and dogs. It makes me so sad. I am thankful they are in a no kill shelter, but it makes me so sad they dont have homes. There are so many cute animals there, you should go adopt one. Actually, you should go adopt them all! I really liked this place. Could be a little more organized, but if you want to spend a day with family and see cats, dogs, rabbits etc and enjoy a good time in the sun, can't really complain. I volunteered here through my company Pacific dental Services and it was an absolute treat feeding the dogs and holding the rabbits. Cleaning the kennels and rabbit dirt not so much haha. The park is a nice area to bring your pet too. Overall good experience. Only negative is I thought there would be more dogs, but I understand this is an animal center, not a zoo. read more

Yesterday I made an executive decision and our Family has grown by one more. Meet Bubba a beautiful and loving boxer. He has adapted well into our home and is kind and loving. With a home with so much love to give, he brings that much more to it. He is sweet and gentle, he is kind and well behaved. Finding the perfect fit that could adapt well with each boys personality and with Kristen was not easy, but Bubba was perfect. In all honesty not sure who rescued who here. We look forward to all the joy he will bring to our new home The staff/volunteers at IACC truly are doing amazing work. They truly care about these pets and it shows they are patient, loving and compassionate. Their facilities are top notch, clean and all animals are well taken care of. Unfortunately, the kitten I adopted from here passed away two and half weeks later.  It was a very sick kitten when I got it.  It was full of giardia parasites and it's heart was in bad shape.   We were told of a heart murmur level 2/3, that was it. On December 12, 2019, the kitten suffered heart failure and fluid accumulated in his chest and body.  I had to have him put down at the Animal Urgent Care Clinic in Mission Viejo. Sorry, not a success story and will not ever adopt from your facility again. read more
