I've been purchasing online auctions items from their estate, relocating, & downsizing events over the last few years. All the staff are wonderful to deal with when picking up any items I've been lucky to win (highest bidder). It's much like bidding on eBay.com. Occasionally another bidder outbids me by mere seconds after entering my bid & there's only seconds left, hence, not enough time for me to submit another bid. That's the thrill of the bidding game folks. Win some & lose some. :-) I also think they are a great service for our community members. Shipping fees are insanely overpriced and headquarters doesn't seem to care. I used to buy a lot from them but quit because shipping turned into a joke! They charged me over $800 to ship a framed print via UpS! I paid $400 for the art and didn't want to lose that money so had no choice but to pay it. 2 weeks later they tried to charge over $300 shipping for a piece of art that was similar size as the one I was charged $800 for. I deeply regret believing in this company. I was lied to about the service. Nothing the owner said is what transpired or when it transpired. This was the most financially and emotionally traumatic experience of handling my Mom's estate. Hopefully the new owners will be more honest. read more

Owner is an individual who is one to take advantage of another person's situation. Over promised and undelivered goods and services. I used this company for my mom's home who passed away and he completely took advantage of this. Called me on the phone to call me names and tell me how much he expected me to praise him for his work after calling me names. Please do not use this company. He said he thought there would be more lots than there were and I would get a discount. The discount didn't happen. There are many other honest companies out there please save yourself from being belittled and threatened. This is not a company who cares. They even left the house with all the shower heads which is absurd to remove from a home in an estate sale. Also refusing to meet with me to return the key. read more

He is often condescending and curt, and seems to have an excuse for every mistake -- from sending me other customers' invoices to failing to provide service in a timely manner. His communication is confusing and unprofessional, and overall, the experience has been frustrating and inefficient. To make matters worse, they left a lot of trash at our house, even though it was explicitly stated in their contract that they would remove it. read more

It is easy to find and bid on lovely items through the CTBids website. Honestly I look forward to the auction email and enjoy perusing through the photos. Absolutely do not use! You will get a fraction of the value of anything. They start bids at $1, and do not advertise or have a large customer base. Last sale i viewed, a large buffet was listed and only had a $2 bid an hour before closing. It could have sold easily for my least $300 on craigslist. They keep anything that doesn't sell and then have big warehouse sales and get money from that. They alone benefit from the sale! read more

I love working with CTBIDS. Descriptions are usually spot on and they will tell you if they see something wrong with the item (transparency). They alway have the items packed nicely when it's you time for pickup - no waiting around for hours like some other auctions. Everyone is polite and helpful. They've even helped me load my truck even though they say they don't offer that service. They're really great!! read more

This company is a joke. Use extreme caution when using them. Their auctions are such that the items are poorly photographed and you often end up with garbage products. The company is almost impossible to deal with once you've purchased, and they run a garage sale all day but refuse to let you pick up your items until they say so. I had been stuck with a 3:30 PM pick up and at 3:00 were calling to tell me they were going to let my items go because I wasn't there. Total joke and garbage company. I have been bidding with Caring Transitions for several years. I have found great deals and have had many dealings with them. All the staff I have worked with have been fantastic and easy to work with. I have dealt with Brad & Mary and the staff for many years and have just the best things to say about them and how they conduct the auction and estate sale. I have gotten some very good deals and actually out fitted a vacation rental with a bunch of the stuff I have gotten. They are easy to communicate with and helpful if you want to retract a bid which I almost did, but instead they made a concession on when I can come since I was going to be out of town (I don't know many people here to have a friend pick up, which would also work.) Having bid on Caring Transition items for several years I cannot believe some negative things I have read from reviewers about the people I have known and dealt with. They are a very professional, courteous, helpful group of people. Right now they have been my auction of choice locally. My family recently utilized Caring Transitions Reno-Sparks for an online auction and house clean out for an elderly relative. We could not have been more impressed. They were communicative at every step, brought a large team to manage all the work and kept perfectly to timelines. The auction was successful, as was a garage sale for smaller items. They managed hazardous waste disposal and donations seamlessly. Every one of the staff was kind, hard working and a true professional. Well, the items from elderly folks , is such an array of collectables to beautiful furniture and too many great deals,,, but dealing with Brad and 'some' of the staff, well, uncaring and uncalled for , regarding CT-BIDS auction process and winning . I am sad to say, banned , from the very first time i bid. I had bid on a dresser , mirror set,, and won, great deal, $14. but on the site, under each item, is a "question & answer" section. I had asked a question, after bidding, 5 days before end of auction, if the furniture was actually all wood, or made of ' other MFD or engineered etc." as i would like to retract bid, if it was not solid wood" well had not heard back from them,. and won the set. I called to say i never received an answer on thier CT-BIDS SITE, and my issue was not paying the $14. price i won them for, but i could not be responsible to hire a moving crew to pick up and then pay to haul to landfill and pay again, $$$ to dump as i would not use , " So in conversation, with Brad i explained that no one answered me nor let me pull my bid, as he said it was not real solid wood, but in his conversation, we had come to a pleasant conclusion; well then a week later i tryed to bid, and was banned!!!\ Being told, how i was mean spirited? and trying to cause trouble with this owner and NATIONAL AUCTION ASSOS.????? what ,,?? I love their items and auction, and told him, i would be one of his biggest spending customers!@!! Never in actual speaking to him, was any of this mentioned,, it was sneaky and dirty to say one thing then accuse me of another and not even tell me he was banning me" Then my daughter in law also bid with this auction,winning a piano, and in going to pick up, with all the appointment rules and trying to follow, the staff at pick up were in no way helpful nor pleasant , nor caring in any way, just said wanted the piano out to there, and we jumped every which way to get a moving crew to come at the exact given time, which we could not do, and an hour late, but this was a baby grand piano, not just like grabbing a lamp,, anyway, Again i will say the auciton and items and great, and some beautiful well taken care of things to bid on, but the owner seems to have a chip on his shoulder or dislikes women, or something, along with those he hires to help him. and we don't deserve this treatment, nor have i ever done anything unChristian to anyone, no matter how i was treated, i smile and give as a servant to all, as the bible instructs. unfortunatly he is hurting a lot of folks who woud be an asset in moving the Auction items, if only he would care and love one another. read more

A few weekends ago finally struck a nerve in me with this company. I have been to many estate sales, and to be turned away with 30 minutes left for their advertised sale times is ridiculous. My wife an I arrived at the home they were holding the estate sale at. I had seen the ad on craigslist and we were in the area and decided to stop by. The Ad on Craigslist said open till 2pm we arrived at 1:30. The signs were still in the driveway. We walked up the driveway and were greeted by a a very professional looking woman. She politely asked if we were there to pick up the dresser. We said no, we were just there to check out the sale. She then proceeded to say we don't have enough time for that, were not letting anyone else in to the house. As our jaws dropped in disbelief a man with a truck pulled up to get the dresser, She asked him the same thing are you here for the dresser? He said yes and then is asked if he could look around a little bit cause he was just the guy with the truck and hadn't had a been to the sale yet. She happily opened the door for him. I won't be visiting anymore of the Caring Transitions sales ever again read more

STAY AWAY! The "owner" lied to my mother that her beautiful belongings would be sold in an "estate sale" when in fact belongings are "sold" in some online auction - which is VERY different from an estate sale. She had a beautiful home that was high end; however, when she had to relocate after the death of her husband, she chose not to bring most of her furnishings. She has still not seen ONE PENNY, NO ACCOUNTING, ONGOING LIES. We do not want one more family to live her nightmare. In theory, this service would be great - but they are predatory on elderly people and families who have usually just suffered a significant loss and needing to make big life changes quickly. read more

I have I've been dealing with Brad and Mary at Caring Transitions for almost 3 years now they are wonderful people. I look forward to going to their sales and have always received excellent customer service and wonderful items that I have bid on and won. If I have a problem with an item or even have to cancel a bid Brad or Mary is immediately on it and resolves my problem. When I pick up my items there's always a sale that has many wonderful items that are not on the auction that you can pick up at wonderful prices. My first auction I won was to be picked up in sparks I called to be given a time & did the 30 min drive to find out it was given to next bidder . Apparently my credit card company thought this was a suspicious transaction and initially declined. No one emailed me ect .. I was told I was called . Long story short email or text messages are more reliable and if there was nothing to pick up why did I make an hour round trip. I changed my card information on account and I'm blocked still. Use technology to update and provide better service. read more

We tried to work with Caring Transitions in Reno. I liked that they had a good mailing list and sold through online auctions. Ours was not a good experience. My first conversation with Brad was a little off, a few little misunderstandings that seemed awkward. Hey, it could have been me though, and sometimes things just get off on the wrong foot. Not a problem - and Brad seemed nice enough. I live in the SF Bay Area so I arranged to have a work associate of mine meet Brad at my parent's Reno home to look at furniture and other items at 1:30pm the following day. My associate left Brad a message at 9:30 that morning to let him know he was having car troubles and that he would not be able to meet until later. Brad showed up at 1:30 anyway and was annoyed that my associate was not there. He called my associate and told him that he did not trust that he had actually left him a voicemail and would have to check it out. Brad got back to the office and did indeed find the message from my associate on his phone. He called my associate (still annoyed apparently) and told him that his cell and work phones were not connected. Brad was unwilling to try and reschedule with my associate. My associate was the one who had recommended Caring Transitions to us originally, and now says that he would never recommend them to anyone again. My associate told me that Brad was rude. While out the house Brad also called our real-estate agent to see if she would let him in. She said she was busy, and that she did not know Brad and so could not really let him wander through the house anyway. Our agent mentioned that he seemed annoyed and that it was kind of a strange conversation. When Brad realized that he was not one of the realtors recommended estate sales companies he decided he no longer wanted to bother looking at the items in the house. He mentioned to me it was already two strikes, so probably not worth his time. I guess Brad found a sure-fire way to never get on the realtors' recommended list. Brad wrote me a follow-up to say that we were uncooperative. He also mistakenly sent me some other family's quote later that evening. An honest blunder I suppose, but still... Caring Transitions says that what they do is not about the money, yet the financial aspect of what they were doing was present in every email and conversation. Brad mentioned several times that the furniture was only worth ten cents on the dollar, could only be sold locally, and that they preferred things like art and other items. As a small business owner myself I totally understand that they need to make a profit, but just be transparent about it and don't say that your sole purpose is to help seniors. The whole transition has been difficult on my family and we have had to make many trips back and forth to Reno. My interaction with Caring Transitions did not make things any easier. I would not recommend Caring Transitions based on my limited interaction with them. When they found out I was going to write a review they said they would be willing to go back and look at the furniture and other items. Why would I do that now? We stopped at a Caring Transitions sale this Saturday and my 8 year old son dug through a pile of misc. stuff outside. He was so excited to find an older smaller TV. There were no cords. He asked the price of the TV and was told $5. He spent an additional 10 minutes finding cords that will work with the TV and a remote control. He went to pay suddenly now the TV is $20. They wouldn't budge. Horrible service. Broke his heart. Frankly the TV probably isn't even worth $5. read more

I started out as a sale-goer, but now I consider them friends. They are that kind of people! Always putting so much care into what they do and making sure that everyone is well taken care of. In my opinion, atrocious. Perhaps a name change to "I only care about my transitions(money)" This group acts as liquidators. They offer service selling items that belong to others and primarily auction on line. Their service includes descriptions of the items that you bid on. In my opinion you should only deal with a reputable, honest company and this is not them. They are a national company and sell franchises. If we can't laugh, life is too short. I will try to add some humor, but this is a serious problem. For those of you not familiar with Reno/Sparks Nv, we are not all cowboys/cowgirls riding horses everywhere. We are not all ranchers driving 4x4's over all our wonderful mountains.(Although I do fit in these categories) I purchased an advertised "set" of Minton English Bone China. The ad stated "like new" "no chips". These are expensive. The ad stated stated they were in quilted travel cases. I picked up the China and the pieces were in the travel cases. I put these in my car (not saddlebags on my horse)(not in my ranch 4x4) and drove home on a paved hiway. The fist case contained a covered vegetable bowl/serving piece. It was packed nicely and was protected. When I unwrapped the two pieces there were two hairline cracks to the bottom. This is unusable. I sent an email to the seller. Rather than take responsibility they said they would issue a credit if reasonable. I stated I would go through the other cases to determine the condition of the remaining set. I next opened the case with the dinner plates(12). They too were wrapped for travel. The last plate was a completely different color. You cannot set the table with this. I actually have a dinning area, not just a stool. I was not going to go further and let the seller know that. I wanted to return this set and get my money refunded. I have held liquidations, I have bought items on line and been to a number of live auctions. Again, the seller stated I was not being fair or reasonable. They would refund $25.00 dollars. Although not being born yesterday I did fall off the turnip truck, just not yesterday. Not that I would want a repaired bowl it would be expensive. There would be no way to use the plate. Since I bought a like new set per their ad it is not unreasonable to have my money returned. I suppose I could find the pieces needed to complete my purchased set-they can replace the pieces at their time and cost. We do have a Walmart and target but they don't carry English China. This is whom you are dealing with. WOW, NOW INSTEAD OF AN APOLOGY THEY HAVE BLOCKED ME. I GUESS THEY DON'T KNOW OR CARE ABOUT WHISTLEBLOWER LAWS. They have demonstrated refusal to follow the laws that govern their business. Now they are ignoring their fiduciary responsibility to the sellers. Bullies need to be exposed and eliminated. read more

Caring Transitions in Reno is an excellent business, run by wonderful, caring individuals. I have purchased numerous items in their estate sales, and my experience with them has been nothing but positive. I would like to address the negative rating left by Phil H. I actually purchased the Minton dinnerware set he returned to Caring Transitions. Excluding the covered casserole dish, all pieces were in perfect, as described, condition. Yes, the casserole dish did have a crack on the bottom, which I knew in advance of the purchase. But, the question is when did it happen. Phil assumed that the dish would be safe for transport in the cloth container. He should not have made that assumption. I always bring my own packing materials when picking up purchased items, because it is my responsibility to ensure the items I purchase are not damaged on the way home. It is not the responsibility of Caring Transitions to package all fragile items in a way one would for shipping. read more
