As a non-smoker, non-drinker, I remember those decades, and what a music store meant for musicians. I became good friends with Al, the father and original owner of Thorold Music. It's not the same today, technology and the economy taking society away from live bands, but I see Thorold Music as finding a nice balance to keep the love alive, enough to make me leave my home town of Welland to make it there. I also respect Leo, one of Als' sons who manages the store, as a keyboard player, and every employee there has shown a mature and talented ability on guitar. I wouldn't necessarily say "Woohoo! As good as it gets!", because when I'm not there the light of Jimi Hendrix, who I saw in Toronto, doesn't shine as bright... and... sometimes it takes a lefty to show you the left-handed world. It has that old-school store vibe, but all the latest and greatest in everything. So much better than buying from a corporation and not seeing where your money goes. Prices are always as low as Musician's Friend or any online retailer. Great selection of used gear in the back room. Service is great because all the employees are actual musicians and not college kids looking for part time jobs like the competition has. Keep the locally owned dream alive!
